Went there to sample their beers and take a look around earlier today.
Atmosphere. This is a combined Damon's Restaurant (They are apparently "famous for ribs" and the Brewery. I am not sure how or why those two are combined. I guess that it is the food from Damon's (which is suspect as it is) and the drink from the brewery. It is a large placed, could hold 1000 people I guess, nice winding bar which could seat 50 maybe. Plenty of taps which only have their own brews. I saw that others had ordered and received BMC bottles. I also saw mental trays for Delerium Tremens, Spaten, Chimay which would strongly suggest that offerings are available from those sources but I did not confirm that. There are lots of Ohio/Akron sports related murals on the walls which I appreciated.
Quality. Fair. I was underwhelmed by almost every aspect of this place from the quality of the food to the beer and the quality of the service, atmosphere was underwhelming too.
Service. Fair. Our waitress, Tina, was nice enough but I had to flag her down (had to ask another server her name and then that second server sort of yelped her name for me) before I could pay my bill and leave the place.
Selection. I cannot honestly comment fully on this. They had about 12 of their own beers on tap and likely many many others in bottles (I did observe BMC in bottles and saw signage for many others) but again I cannot say how many or what type that they had. Their focus and my focus was on their own brews today.
Food. Did not have any of the food.
Value. Fine and reasonable.
Notes: An odd combination of two restaurants that I think would be better off firing their current cook staff, hiring some serious chefs and also hiring a good brewer who can put some pride back in this place (or letting the current brewer express himself with more freedom). After speaking with a few friends they also reported being underwhelmed by this place.

Visited here on a Friday afternoon with a good friend of mine (Passow) a few weeks ago. It was pretty dead when we went. maybe 8 other customers over the course of time we spent there, which was maybe about an hour or so. The facility is a big open space with a high ceiling. The brewing tanks where they brew their beer are right up front by the main entrance. The service was quite speedy and the bartender seemed fairly knowledable about the beers they had. I liked all the old beer posters and the great collection of empty craft beer bottles from the past 10 or 15 years or so lining one wall. Big flat screen TV's were mounted above the wall above the bar area, but early on a Friday afternoon there is not much sports on TV. The fact that this facility is very close to the Akron Aero's stadium makes me believe this place could turn into a loud douchebag sports bar at times, which is the kind of facility I try to avoid like the plague most of the time, but hey I guess that sort of thing is good for their business and enables them to also be open early on a Friday afternoon with almost no customers and that my friend and I can go in and enjoy a beer while it is quiet in there and hear ourselves converse with each other without having to shout at the top of out lungs, but I digress. We did not try any food as we had eaten lunch before hand, but we spilt a sampler of their beer. If I remember correctly they had 6 of their beers in the sampler and one guest beer. Their beers are okay IMO, but nothing special. I went with a pint of the Twice Bitten IPA in the end, which I thought was one of the best beers they had available during my visit there. I would visit this place again.

My visit to the Ohio Brewing Company was kind of non-eventful. The most exciting part was the vagrants hanging around the area where the brewery is located.
I'd heard that it was attached to a Damon's and to be honest, I wasn't thrilled at the prospects. But nothing could prepare me for what I was about to experience. They not only had no connection with Damon's any more, they also had no food...no kidding!
I had intended to eat lunch there but they sheepishly revealed a list to me of about twenty items they were out of.
On top of that the place was completely dead except for a few staff milling about. (The restaurant two doors away was literally overflowing with people) This is a bad start for me.
The only saving graces were the good beer and the lovely bartender (Rachel) who served it.
I tried a few samples from their roster of beers and I stuck with the delicious O'Hoppy IPA. Mmmmm....good!
I'd probably return again, with expectations lowered. That way they might surprise me! Would be a good place to stop for a beer or two for if nothing else.

I've visited this place numerous times and must say this place is a 'must see' if you're ever up in this area.
The setting is in the middle of the University of Akron campus, but it is far from your typical college bar. They always have there own brews on tap (all of which are very good) plus a few others they have started carrying.
Their service is usually good...you sometimes get the under-educated server/bartender that might not know as much as one would hope about the beer, but this is usually not the case.
Food is decent...they used to be associated with Damon's, but have since cut ties and, really, the food has not dropped off one bit...if anything, it's gotten slightly better.
All in all a good place, with good beer that is worth a visit.

Visited on 3/28/09. Nice to see an Ohio Brewing in Ohio again, as well as a brewpub in Akron. This place was originally partnered with Damon's but has since severed ties. The brewpub is located downtown not too far from I-76, and there are plenty of metered street and pay lots around.
The interior is large and open, with the bar being immediately on the left after entering. The rest of the multi-level establishment is devoted to table seating. There are multiple boards around the bar showing what beers are on tap. There is a definite sports theme to the decor.
As for the tap list, Ohio Brewing has around 12 of their beers on tap, all of which are available as samples. They range from Kölsch to Fruit Beer to Porter and Stout, with most of the standard styles represented. All of the beers are average to above average.
Service was pretty good on a slow Saturday late afternoon. The bartender was attentive and seemed to have a pretty good grasp of the beers that were available.
I did not try any food on my visit.
Overall this is one of just a few beer spots worth hitting in the downtown Akron area so it is worth checking out.

Visited Ohio Brewing with my brother-in-law because Great Lakes was closed on Sunday. Sigh.
The place is huge inside, renovated from an old department store in downtown Akron. It feels like you're in a warehouse; definitely not a "cozy neighborhood bar" feeling. Even though there were few patrons, the size made it pretty noisy. I would estimate that if you're there to watch a big sports event on the numerous flatscreens, it would be next to impossible to hear the people at your table.
Our waiter was slow and pretty inefficient. He described the Kölsch as a "light beer" and said he didn't like dark beers, but then later said he liked the stout. (?) Couldn't really describe the brown ale except to say it was "brown." Took a good while to arrive at our table and even longer to bring our beers. My brother-in-law had the IPA which I would say was slightly above average. I had the stout which was run-of-the-mill for the style. Despite the fact I ordered a 16 oz glass so I could try several offerings, he brought me the 22 oz.
Food was OK. I had the riblet appetizer which included onion straws and fries and was plenty for a meal if you're not totally starving. The ribs were quite tender but had the standard gooey, sticky, sweet red sauce on them. I wish brewpubs would learn a few different ways to offer Bar-B-Q.
We ate, finished our beers and went home to sample some brews in the fridge.
Overall, I'd say that Ohio Brewing is fortunate that Great Lakes and the Brewkettle aren't closer. I'd rather drive a little farther and go to an above average place than return to this one.

Housed in an old department store (O'Neils) this place certainly has ample space. The location is quite convenient too, being right next to a small, outdoor music venue. As noted earlier, the interior definitely has a sports bar feel to it. There are food menu's for both Damon's and Ohio Brewing, but it's clear that the Damon's agenda seems to be pushed. I've had selections from both and they're both more than acceptable, but I thought the Ohio Brewing food was more adventurous.
As alluded to by another reviewer, the Damon's staff is pretty clueless when it comes to the beer, and that's a shame because over the last three weeks I've tried Verich Gold (German Kolsch), Airdock Amber Light (Light Ale), Steel Valley Stout, and Akron Dobble Alt (Dark/Amber German Altbier) and they have all been quite good. The latter is one of their "seasonals" and I want to make sure I have some more before it's gone, it was that good.
My advice to those who wish to visit Ohio Brewing is this. Head straight to the bar and order your brew and food there.

Had some lunch here and figured I'd try a brew while I was at it.
It looks like a sports bar, TVs everywhere. We ate out side and it was a beautiful Summer day.
The service was very good we were waited on by two servers and the manager stopped by to ask how we were doing. The only kill on service was they messed up our order, but gave us the mess up to keep and bring home, which is not normal.
Tried the Steel Valley Stout it was not bad.
Seemed like the waiters had no clue except what they were prompted about the beers. The food was also pretty good.
I also aagree with the previous review no real hype on the beers.

Stopped by when driving through Akron yesterday to check this place out.
Walking in, it doesn't look like a brewpub. Really big and really open. Nice HD flat screens all over the place. Definitely looks more like a Damon's than a brewpub.
I got the Cardinal Ale, while my fiancee got the IPA. The waiter ended up giving us the wrong beers (he thought the red beer was the IPA). This was the first sign that the waitstaff seems to know Damon's menu but not the beers, so that was disappointing. We ended up trying the Amber too.
Overall, the beers were pretty solid. The red and IPA were both pretty solid, and the amber was decent. We got a growler to go, but think they filled it up with the wrong beer and it leaked all over our car (didn't screw the top on correctly). So that was disappointing.
My guess is that they are still getting used to things, since this was the first week it was open. There is definitely some potential here, and I enjoyed the beers. Food was decent.
Overall, I would have liked to see more emphasis on the beers and the brewpub than on Damon's. Outside of one little corner of the menu, there was no mention of the beers. Even the drink menu on the table didn't have the beers listed.
