Poured a pretty reddish orange with a slight ring of head that quickly receded. Scents of citrus, tropical fruit and slight pine and caramel malt. Flavor begins with piney hops, giving way to floral hops and with a good malt backbone and slight sweetness on the finish with hints of caramel. It's a really good, IPA like flavor. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a moderate carbonation level that makes it smooth to drink. This is a good beer, not what I was expecting at all, far hoppier and far better than expected. Definitely worth trying.

From 12 oz bottle...poured in Maudite chalice.
Pours a copper brown with significant head.
Aroma of rye, wet hay, herbs & spices.
Medium carbonation and mouthfeel.
Flavors of rich malts, grassy hops, white pepper, floral hops, rye, roasty malts. Overall
quite bold and flavorful. There's an astringency but also creamy hops and malt profile.

Poured into a standard pint glass a clear medium amber color with a half finger off white head atop that was gone pretty quickly.A healthy dose of fruity hops hit ya in the nose along with caramel malt but not overly sweet smelling,the hops win out.Like the aromas a good shot of fruity hops at the onset of the palate,not bitter just lightly sweet fruitiness,light roast and caramel malt make it balanced.I like a good hopped up red and this quite good,it seems smaller than it's abv,just a slight sharpness in the mouth keeps it from being 4's across the board.

Bottle poured into a standard tumbler pint glass. Pours a copper/redish hue. 1-2 fingers worth of nice sticky head with good appearance and pretty decent lacing. This red is, in my opinion a bit of a hoppy take on the style, which I, personally, like. Good malt flavor with some citrus. A little floral and grapefruit as well. Would drink again.

Poured a dark amber color, slight haze. Nice 2 finger, khaki colored hed. Good lacing. Nice egg-white like head.

Aroma was very citrusy and grapefruity. Lots of hops. Caramely and biscuity with some mellow sweetness.

Flavor is biscuity and caramely upfront. Good amount of maltiness helps balance the hop bitterness. Floral and citrusy hops with a grapefruit bitterness that slightly lingers. A bit grainy as well.

Body is medium with a medium carbonation level. Crisp finish.

Overall this is a great west-coast styled Red. Big hops, good maltyness with a light sweetness. Very enjoyable and one of the better Red's i've had.

A big rich off white head slowly dies into a nice lacing above a clear reddish golden colored ale.

Slightly roasted grain malt sweetness blended with a citrus hops aroma that is done quite nicely.

Slightly roasted caramel grain malts blend really well with a citrus to pine hops bite give this red a very worthy taste.

A dry aftertaste that harbors the hops citrus and dryness on this medium bodied beer.

A pretty darn good red, I hope these guys get more exposure.

12oz bottled May 15, 2012. Served at around 40-45F.

Pours cloudy red with a one finger beige head that leaves a few small spots of lacing and holds a nice cap.

Aroma features nice caramel and bready malt, some fruity notes, good bit of citrus and floral hops. Good to very good strength.

Flavor is citrus hops, caramel malt, fruit, cherries, apples, dark bread, moderate sweetness, mild bitterness, minimal alcohol.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slick, good carbonation.

Very nice hoppy Amber Ale. Really nice. Very impressed by both this and the IPA from Marble Brewery.

APPEARANCE: Shockingly, the red ale is quite red. With a relatively easy pour the head was enormous (about two full inches) and bubbly. It slowly receded, leaving a ring of lace around the top of the glass but not much below.

SMELL: Yum. That is a nice, earthy, spicy hoppy aroma. It could be a little more intense, but the smell is delicious. It pretty much smells like fresh hops.

TASTE: OK, this reminds me of the old Daisy Cutter recipe. It is very grassy, the only difference is that unlike the thinner body and crisper Daisy Cutter, the Marble Red Ale has a solid backbone of caramel malt. A wonderful citrus takes over at the end, closing it out and leaving the palate set for the next sip.

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body with a very nice sparkle. The Red Ale is very appropriately carbonated.

OVERALL: These guys are good. I've only tried three of their beers, but they have all been excellent. The Simcoe hops in this one come through the strongest and make this one of the more memorable Red Ales I've had.

Pours a a dark amber with a thumbs width beige head and nice lacing. A nice dose of some hops to go along with the expected sweetness; a nice dose of some sugar and caramel next to some grass. That's what you get with the flavor too. Sweet, sugary, with just the slightest hint of some toffee along with a little bitterness and earthiness from the hops in the finish. Medium bodied, maybe a little syrupy type mouthfeel. Overall, a very enjoyable take on an amber ale.

An amber-red wonder. Wonderful sweet-hoppy aroma, the taste following suit. If the ABV were a tad higher, this would be Grade A IIPA, but when you'd rather have a slightly lower alcohol content yet have all the other benefits of an APA hop bomb, I would highly recommend this brew. Well-balanced, very easy drinking, and very, very tasty...

12 oz bottle served cold into a goblet.

Marble Red is a deep redish brown with good clarity. The head is thick and settles slowly leaving spoty lace behind.

Aroma is malty sweet with a heavy dose of British and Northwestern hops.

Flavor is big for a red ale but still nicely balanced. Bold malt base with caramel and toast. Hops are earthy, spicy, and a little grassy.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and well carbonated.

Overall a really well done hoppy red.

incredible red! love love this one from marble. pours a sunrise red color with a rising tan foam head that lasts. reeks of caramel malts and tropical fruity hops. flavor is surprisingly hoppy for a red, a lot like the odell's version in that respect. the profile is passion fruit and tangerine, which plays all kinds of tricks on the heavier malts. this beer has a lot going on! feel is really nice too, great carbonation makes the medium to fuller body feel quite approachable and sessionable. marble continues to impress me, and this might be my favorite yet. a very very well made glass of beer.

Awesome clear blood red color. Nice fluffy foam head; slight green tint to a straw color.

Very nice pineapple hop with caramel background. Nice sweet malty scent.

Fantastic hop BOOM, very good for a red. This brew drinks wonderfully! Great carbonation, but slightly over bitter. Great hop forward brew with great appropriate dry biscuit-y bite.

Hands down one of the best reds I've ever had. Highly recommended.

Picked up a sixer of this along with the IPA, solid beer. Nice dark red color, hefty head. Smells like hops woven around a real nice maltiness, pine too which I did not get from the IPA. Taste is chewy malt, more pine but the hoppiness is not jarring and is well integrated into the beer. You definitely notice it but it never takes over. Nice stuff.

Poures a slightly hazy deep red with a thick one finger off-white head. Great head retention and lacing.

Piney hops dominate the smell but that is quickly followed by some toasted malt and hints of chocolate. A really unique smell and great balance of hops and malt.

The flavor, like the smell, begins with a piney hop flavor being dominant. This is quickly followed by toasted caramel malt and some dark chocolate. The hops are still there throughout and lead to a mild bitterness lasting through the finish.

This beer is a wonderful balance of hops and malt. A unique flavor for a red ale, it is truly a one of a kind beer and an amazing one at that. Glad I am able to get it locally.

Appearance: Pours a clear caramel with a huge tan head; the retention was solid as was the lacing

Smell: The caramel malt and piney, earthy hops to provide a unique aroma that has elements of chocolate and pipe tobacco

Taste: The unusual combination detected on the nose jumps out on the taste buds, with the hops adding an earthy and fruity dimension by mid-palate; after the swallow, the caramel and chocolate flavors emerge to balance out the bitter flavors; pipe tobacco elements linger in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Quite the surprise to discover a Red ale with a totally unique flavor profile; really enjoyed this beer

poured from a bottle into a pint glass

A - Pours a unique and hazy deep amber with copper highlights. Only the occasional bubble is seen rising to the two finger, rocky, tan head. Head stays intact all the way down the glass. Lace clings pretty nicely to the glass, leaving a couple thick rings on the upper third of the glass and substantial blobs elsewhere.

S - A decent amount of caramel malt and earthy hop tones greet the nose.

T - A bit of caramel upfront, the body has an incredible balance between sweet caramel malt and peppy, earthy hops with just a hint of red apple. A flash of cascade hops as the beer passes over the back of the tongue leads to a deep caramel apple finish.

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation that comes across remarkably full bodied and chewy.

Marble Red ale is a simple, full bodied, incredibly balanced beer. It's basically a bolder, higher alcohol, better looking version of their excellent amber ale. The deep, rich flavor of this beer almost reminds me of a good Manhattan, and is definitely something I will come back to.

This beer coupled with the amber ale makes a strong case for Marble being regarded as the quintessential American Amber craft brewer.

12oz bottle poured into a Harpoon IPA stange. Top right edge of label stamped 12 01 11.

Appearance - Medium dark brown body. Big rocky offwhite head with good retention and low stick.

Smell - Hop heavy at first, before the chocolate malt brings it back down to earth. Great presence and balance of hop and malt.

Taste - A little hop forward. Could cut back a little. Or maybe add more malt. Too tannic, alcoholic, and bitter. I take back what I said earlier... this definitely needs much more malt presence.

Mouthfeel - Astringency kills it. Medium bodied. Can't really get a feel for the carbonation, if any, because the astringency is overpowering.

Overall Drinkability - Really disappointed on this one. Hopefully it was just a bad batch, because I can's see anyone putting this out on the market. Even Budweiser American Ale is leaps and bounds more enjoyable.

Appearance: Color is dark amber to brown, with a hazy clarity. The head is tan and a couple of fingers high. Lacing is very good, with a fair amount of head retention.

Smell: Big, hoppy aromas of citrus make for a crisp smell.

Taste: Definitely get some biting bitterness in this ale, with both piney and cirtusy hop character. The caramel malts are there as well, but are a small part compared to the hops.

Mouthfeel: Body is medium on this highly carbonated beer. The finish is dry and bitter.

Overall: A nicely put together beer. I'm not a huge fan of the style, but can recommend this to those who like a hoppy red ale.

Bottle poured into imperial pint glass.

A- Copper. Fairly dark. Very slight murkiness. Three fingers of loose, lacing head.

S- A nice mix of malts and hops. That distinctive red ale (like most imperial red ale) malt smell that I always fail at describing in detail, like spicy roasted bread.

T- Taste is right in line with that smell. This isn't there, but does border on an imperial red, with that taste that I cannot specifically nail down. Finishes with dry with nice piney bitterness.

M- Right at medium. Nicely carbonated.

O- I gave this 4s across the board. It is a nice, pretty hoppy red, and I'm glad I have access to it.

A- This beer is the darkest ruby I've ever seen. Half a finger of head. I'm loving the color. Some lines of lacing.

S- Interesting smell- kind of tea like. Some dark bread. Herbal qualities.

T- I'm having trouble pinning down the flavors of this one. Definitely piney. Kind of a caramel, almost a smoke/ash flavor. I get the tea flavor still. Interesting.

M- Quite bitter- right own par for what I would expect for the style.

O- This beer somewhat perplexes me. It's not super hoppy, or malty, just kind of there. The bitterness fits well with the red ale style. I think I need another one to dissect it.

Appearance: Very full head. Great red color. A bit too carbonated for my liking.

Smell: Excellent balance on the malt and hops. Fairly biscuity and also hoppy, especially for a red ale.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Extremely unique flavor. Spiced hops with a malty background. Mouthfeel might be a bit rough, especially for this style.

Drinkability: Not your standard red ale, but very good.

Overall: A bit unusual, but one of my favorite red ales.

Beer pours a amble with about a finger's worth of foam. There was a little lacing, but not much.

The smell is extremely hoppy (almost IPA like).

Upon tasting, the hops are very up front and quite pleasant. The finish was also quite bitter, but worked.

Mouth feel is solid and the right viscosity.

Pours a nice amber color with a two finger light tan head that falls to a ring with some good lace.

Aroma is wonderful fruity mango sweetness blends with caramel sweetness nice fruity notes from hops are wonderful. Also a touch of cascade bitterness.

Taste is good not as wonderful as the nose but nice. god caramel malt base with a good supply of hops. Not as fruity sweet as the nose hops more citrus bitter like most west coast hopped brews. Finish is lingering grapefruit along with some earthy metallic notes.

Mouthfeel is nice medium body lightly peppy carbonation bringing hops to the front.

Overall quite good if I could find this locally it would be rotated in with my regular amber fix. Want to thank merlin48 for this sample.

Poured a nice rusty amber with about a finger on the topside. Nice creamy lacing as well.

Nose: Plenty of hops on this one. Nice smack in the face initially, then after that you get a deep malt aroma. It's rather earthy smelling with a bit of spice in the back burner. Nice smelling brew.

Taste: Once again this is a fairly hoppy red. It's kinda absent up front but the flavor is strong in the middle of the palate with a nice hop profile, slight sweet malt notes, and a bit of caramel factor to round it off.

Mouth: It's rather light, smooth, and a dry finish. The aftertaste to me leaves sort of a fruity reminisce. I like it.

Overall: This one was nice and a very easy drinking beer. It cures your hop urge as well as giving you more than a regular IPA has to offer. Will be getting it again, for sure.
