On tap at marble tasting room in Santa Fe. Nice oatmeal stout.

Wonderful smell of toasty coffee and that nice lingering head that good stouts have. Not a tremendous amount of abv that I like, but a very session able beer. Gonna try a few more of their beers at the actual brewery in Abq this week, figured this was a good 1 to start with

love marble, every beer i have from them impresses me for different reasons. this oatmeal stout pours as black as any beer ive ever laid eyes on. its jet jet black, inky and thick, but not syrupy at all. theres a solid two inches of light brown foam on top, with fairly solid retention. i smell burnt malt, minerals, tobacco, and literally no sugar at all. its certainly not the nose i expected, but it makes this beer that much more dark and mysterious to me. first seem is holy roast batman! never had such richly toasted malt without the bitterness of burnt grain, impressive feat. the oats provide a little bit of roundness to the flavor and feel, but dont seem to add any sweetness at all, although this beer isnt bitter either, its just balanced perfectly. some light dark chocolate notes in there as well toward the finish. great mouthfeel, soft and creamy feeling. majorly full bodied but this is barely filling. average carbonation for the style. overall another fantastic and interesting brew from marble, who continues to make true to style beers that are a level above what so many others are putting out. this is da bomb!

A big light brown head takes its time to settle into a pretty nice lacing above a clear ( I think ) super dark brown to black colored beer.

Super dark roasted malts with the aroma of them being burnt harbor some bakers chocolate, coffee, and oatmeal aspects.

Rich dark roasted malts with unsweetened chocolate, light roasted coffee, and a thickness of oatmeal taste.

A creamy yet lightly dry aftertaste with some of the dark roasted malt characteristics hanging around on this full bodied creamy thick stout.

A very well done oatmeal stout, not to much chocolate or coffee coming through, yet it has that full roasted malt body that makes you want to take another drink and another, etc.

The beer pours a dark brown to to color with a nice cap of mocha colored foam. A nice looking brew. The nose is dark with chocolate, carob, and caramel. Very smooth on the palate---the dark goodness just slickly flows along with just the right amount of oatmeal. The dark malt peak through with cocoa, mocha and sweetness. The grain is there, though. The malt brings a slight bit of welcome bitterness. A nice well built brew: tasty, smooth, and very drinkable.

Growler poured into my Duvel Tulip. A big thanks to GHB for a growler as an extra.

Appearance: Very dark brown with a surprising large 2” to 3” frothy tan head in color. Sticky lacing remains along with a 1” head throughout the beer.

Smell: Dark roasted malt with hints of chocolate.

Taste: Impressive, rich creamy roasted malt with a pleasant chocolaty bitterness. I am also picking up some hints of coffee from the roast. A nice flavor profile for a very solid oatmeal stout.

Mouthfeel: This is where this brew really excels, creamy, perfect carbonation, and exceptionally smooth.

Overall: I was surprised to receive a growler from New Mexico and even more surprised that the beer retained its carbonation as if it had just been poured. This is truly a well crafted stout that I was very happy to try.

Deep brown and black appearance, soft tan head, 3/4" on the top, good retention. Soft and mild coffee malt aroma, rich roast is the most prominent smell going on.

Taste, very sessionable, but nice and thick enough viscosity that it isn't watered down into Guinness territory to keep it more approachable/sessionable. Still has the chocolate and coffee malt thing going without any additions of them from an adjunct perspective. Some moderate hopping apparent, kind of is a weird juxtaposition with an oatmeal stout, contributes some bitterness that the oatmeal is supposed to be fighting. . . still good though, just, well not complex, confounded?

A date of one sort or another is stamped on the side of this indicating a date of 01 24 12. I am not sure of the origin or meaning but the barely visible date is on the label. Beer pours from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Emerges pitch black with a small, quite dark, mocha colored head atop the beverage. Generous lacing as the head fades somewhat quickly.

Aroma is stout-like but not quite as advertised. According to the bottle: "Brewing our oatmeal stout with a blend of three raosted malts creates intense coffee and dark chocolate notes, while the addition of flaked oats adds a creamy mouthfeel." I may agree with the end of this statement, but I disagree with the first assertion. The chocolate and coffee are nicely mixed in with other aromas, but in no way are they worthy of pulling out for individual recogntion. I would say coffee plays a bigger role than chocolate, but altogether the aroma was typical and not remarkable.

I enjoyed this beer. I was hoping for a little more coffee since it was specifically mentioned on the bottle: perhaps that is unfair but that is my opinion. I am on the fence about recommending this one. I wouldnt not recommend it but this one fits nicely in the "average to slightly above average" category.

12oz bottle poured into a NB globe. Thanks to injuredreserve for the chance to try this one.

A: The beer pours a dark chocolate brown with a nice fluffy head that dissipates quickly leaving a thin trail of lacing throughout the session.

S: The nose has hints of chocolate malt with a touch of roast and a very minimal hop presence.

T: The flavor profile follows the nose with a large amount of chocolate malt on the front that finishes with a nice roast/smoked flavor. Touch of bitterness but it works. Nice.

M: Carbonation is perfect and carries this medium bodied stout really well. Finish is dry leaving a hint of dark chocolate on the pallet.

O: Overll this was a tasty oatmeal stout and I would certainly try it again if the opportunity presents itself.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours pitch black with a half finger dark tan head. Poor head retention but pretty good lacing.

Aroma is full of roasted malt along with a touch of coffee and cocoa.

The flavor is dominated by roasted malt but there are strong hints of cocoa nibs along with a little bit of coffee. There is a mild underlying sweetness along with a velvety smooth mouthfeel. Light bitterness is present towards the finish.

Overall this is a top notch oatmeal stout. Excellent flavor and mouthfeel make this another home run from Marble Brewery.

Appearance: Pours a fudge brown color with a rocky tan head whose retention and lacing are not unimpressive

Smell: Chalk, chocolate and sweetened oatmeal elements

Taste: Hop-forward, with underpinnings of chocolate; floral, hoppy flavors continue to build through the swallow and into the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; lacks the creamy feeling I would expect in an Oatmeal Stout

Overall: Not really what I was expecting, at all; a bit too thin and a bit too hoppy; not a bad beer, just different

On-tap at the brewery. Black as far as I can tell in the dimly lit pub area. Nice creamy head, creamed coffee, and dark cocoa with an earthy hop element creeping in the background and a breath of diner coffee grounds on the finish. All around solid and a great sessioner depending on your definition. The only fault is the relatively light mouth presence, though the restrained carbonation helps.
