Notes:
Old Pavilion Pilsner was inspired by Brewmaster Eric Marshall’s time as an apprentice brewer in Germany. Crisp and clean with a distinct and pleasurable hop flavor and aroma, Old Pavilion Pilsner is brewed in the North German “Pils” style. Brewed with American malts, a mixture of American and German hops, and fermented with a German strain of bottom-fermenting lager yeast, this beer is crafted with a deep reverence for one of the world’s most successful beer styles..

Poured into a fluted pilsner glass.
The beer is a darker straw yellow color. A white sudsy head slowly dissipates, leaving a film and lots if thick soapy lines of lacing on the glass. The aroma is of lemongrass, faint grains, citrus notes, and a touch of hops. The beer tastes really refreshing with lemony notes coating over any hop bitterness. There's also a slight touch of grapefruit in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium to light bodied.
Overall, a refreshing pilsener for sure, an excellent touch of lemon brightness in this.

A - Poured out a hazy, golden orange color with a small, white head of bubbly foam. It left thin rings of lace on the glass.
S - It smelled earthy with some caramel and toffee.
T - It tasted spicy with earthy, grassy hop bitterness. Nice caramel flavor adds some sweetness.
M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light to medium bodied ale with a dry finish.
O - This is a nice pilsener. Another solid beer from Marshall.

From notes:
P: Placid body of clear golden thin liquid that sloshes nicely. Thin streaky lacing that slides down the glass when swirled.
S: Fruity hops, sweet malts, salty, subtle spices, maybe coriander, pears, timid citrus and small whiffs of yeast.
T/M: Taste of corn, salty, orange rind and grapefruit are laced in this lightly bubbly and thin body. Refreshing with slight yeast mustiness in the back of the throat on this dry finish.
O: Hats off to Eric Marshall for gracing us with this delicious Pilsner. A great session beer that goes down smooth and delivers amazing flavors. This is a Pilsner that will be in abundant supply in my house. Marshall does a solid job with all of their offerings.

Poured into a pilsner.
It's a hazy, unpasteurized gold. White head that leaves a nice lace.
It smells floral and piney, a touch of malts.
It's very floral. There is a nice bite of bittering hops. This beer definitely has an astringent/alcohol flavor, but it fits nicely into that euro pilsner style.
It's a bit thicker than I anticipated and has a good, bubbly carbonation.
This is one ofthe better American pilsners I've had and it came from Oklahoma(?!). There are good things happening in that state with regard to beer.

A ~ Hazed & Unfiltered in appearence, this Pils pours the color of watered-down honey.
S ~ Earthy & Piney hops with a bit of proofed dough.
T ~ Earthy & slightly piney hops right off the bat backed up with pale malt & soft bready notes. Hints of grass & pepper throughout with a splash of Tonic Water. (there's a flavor reminiscent of Quinine)
M ~ Excellent bitter feel with scrubbing carbonation that cleanses the palette of malty cloy. Not too dry for how hoppy it is. Very assertive favors.
D ~ Fantastic pils! Hoppier than its German predecessors, but this is, after all, an American interpretation of a German style. Will definitely revisit!

12oz bottle compliments of BeerBoy9960 as extra in a recent trade. Bottle was shared with SundaySour.
Poured into tulip taster glasses.
A: Looks like a pilsener that had some ice cubed in it, that since melted. There's a real waterline in the appearance towards where the head should be. The pour was actually quite violent in trying to coax a head, but to no avail. Flat as pond water. Not even a foam rim-line.
S: Flaky grains with a moderate sweetness. White sugared oatmeal that is overflowing with water. The smell is consistently cut by this wateriness, but otherwise the nose is pretty good. Under all that water are some pretty crisp crunchy grains with a natural sweetness. An unusually bright note of pecan like oat clusters in the end. Not bad minus the water.
T: Whoa, a weird mix of hops and grains that meld together for a bitter hemp cereal bite. Dried grains in the taste, but with a wetness that makes the crispness fade a bit to mush. Sweet breads with rustic crusts make for an unusual taste. Cork wood in the finish, with a hazelnut skin complexity. I have to admit, I think this is pretty good.
M: Really quite flat, I think this beer might have had some age on it or lost some of its life in transit. A little bit more body would have done this light bodied brew some good. This is the area where it's really just hurting right now. A pathetic showing of bubbles.
O: The flavor on this beer was so much better than any other category that it just made for a mildly heartbreaking experience. It's like seeing an amazingly athlete past his prime. You know he was good, but what's in front of you is all that's left. A relic of former glory, and he is nothing more than a nostalgic symbol. In this case, I know this beer must be better than I how I had it. That said, I still think it tastes pretty good. Some bubbles in here and it would return to its former athletic glory. A likeable pilsener flavor on a decrepit flat body.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #50 (March 2011):
Pours a bit cloudy, though still a very bubbly brew with a thick head on top. From grape skin to mild biscuity grain, to lemony, spicy hops, this hazed Pilsner has quite the nose. Crispness under smoothness, and smoothness is big. Hops are on the charge with a firm bitterness and thick herbal flavor, with some lemongrass coming through. The malt character does not turn a cheek to the slap of hops, but hits back with a fistful of grain. Yeast drops in and stays neutral in the semidry ending. Very much like a Kellerbier or Zwikelbier, pick your flavor ... aside from the cloudiness, this is a pretty amazing lager.

Huge thanks to Ilikebrew for this state tick. Another state under my belt. Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.
A: Slightly cloudy golden yellow hue. Huge four fingers of stark white head that set up like meringue. Thick lace rings and exceptional retention.
S: Loads of lemon and buttery bread are the main things I pick out. Hops abound once past the initial malt and yeast.
T: Again citrus is the main thing I taste. Mild pale malt and a sharp hop bite in the finish. Grassy.
M: Medium to light body. Creamy yet brick carbonation.
O: Pretty much right in line with the style guide lines.

Pours straw to very light golden in color. A soft white head that falls to a thin cap. Minimal lacing.
Very compelling aroma. Bright and citrusy, spicy and herbal. Some soft mint and perhaps lime zest. Some light honey notes. Orange.
Taste is juicy--lemon, orange--and minty, with mineral notes and a nice snap of bitter hops at the end. The finish is quite dry. The soft carbonation contributes a smooth mouthfeel that has its own charm but I personally feel the carbonation needs to be bumped up (both for the style and I simply think it compliments the sharp bitterness here).
Many Pennsylvania craft brewers (Victory, Troegs, Stoudt's) showed Americans how exciting the pils style can be. At its heart, the style showcases an austere mineral/herbal/bitter character that is very refreshing and full of complexity at the same time. Very, very few American craft brewers have been willing or able to rise to the occasion and make a great pils. Now we can add Marshall Brewing from Tulsa to that list.

Bottle courtesy of russpowell. Thanks Russ!
It pours a hazy straw gold with a 1 finger head of foam. The lacing is pretty impressive for a Pils.
The smell is very much on the sweet side; pretty big sugary smell that throws me hints of fruit.
The taste has its sweet side with a residual bitterness that's on the grassy side. Not much meshing of flavours so I'm thinking this is a pretty "rough" example of the style. When I wait a few moments after sipping and swallowing, the aftertaste is actually quite good.
There's nothing wrong with the mouth feel. Nice lightish carbonation and on the low end of medium bodied.
And..no problems drinking it at all. If only the beer tasted more like the aftertaste while drinking, it would score a lot better.

What a killer little pils!
A: Pours a rich golden with some copper richness. Great head and persistenmt small bubbles.
S: Golden. No, like a Belgian Golden. Yeast and some bready richness. Orange zest.
T: The breads, yeast, grain come through here too, with a cleansing citrus hop note on the finish.
M: Very nice. Strong Duvel like carbonation that seems to evolve on the palate. Refreshing, delicate and distinct.
D: Easy drinklable and refreshing. 'Nuf Said.
Not true to Pils character if that's what you're looking for, but a very good brew more along the lines of a strong golden (with low abv) made to session.

A - Pours a cloudy golden straw. 2 finger bone-white head.
S - Grassy hops, sweet grain, subtle yeast, lemon citrus, lots of fresh spice, a touch of honey. Bread comes out as it warms.
T - Crisp bitterness from the hops. Herbal and spicy. Some bready grain notes with a touch of sweetness. The underling yeast has a sense of coriander. Citrus notes provide a very clean finish. Citrus really comes out in the aftertaste.
A very refreshing pilsner. Crisp and clean. Excellent session for early season football.

Thanks to Bobby for sharing this one.
A: The pour is a slightly cloudy straw color with a fluffy white head.
S: Not the most pleasing of noses, I must say. Buttery and skunky with some slight fruit notes that seem to come out of nowhere.
T: A hint of skunk, but really a nice sweet fruit quality that sort of saves the beer. A biscuit malt base with a light bitterness and slightly spicy hops.
M: The body is on the light side, like you might expect. Highly carbonated, too.
D: I liked the flavor a fair amount but the nose was not doing it for me. That said, pretty light and easy to drink.

Marshall's pils poured a murky gold with a very assertive head that faded with a crater very slowly. The glass was notched and draped with lace all the way down.
The nose was crisp and clean, floral hops with a pinch of lemon citrus were at the forefront. Softer flavors of yeast, spice, and coriander rounded out a very complex and refreshing aroma.
The noble hop happiness continued through the flavor, adding ample bitterness and grassy flavor throughout. Spice, diacetyl, and yeast hid under the hops.
The body was medium, with a creamy yet slick quality that all ended in a very dry finish, begging for more. The carbonation was generous and gave it a good crisp bite. This is a very refreshing pils that doesn't sacrifice complexity for drinkability.

Lots of smoke on the crack, pours a cloudy light golden straw color with an impressive pillowy white head of over an inch. very thick foam that really sticks around and clings to the glass.
smells spicy and herbal. i'm detecting some sweet notes like light bready malts, maybe some banana, some hops. As it warms there is an almost Vegetable like smell.
There are some great hops in this beer for a pilsner. almost piney, with the malts taking a back seat. Almost reminds me of a slightly less hoppy Victory Prima Pils. This is a very tasty Pilsner with exceptional flavor complexity.
Moderate carbonation, lighter bodied, and very smooth.
This is a good beer and i'm glad I picked it up.
This would make a great session beer, I just wish I could get it cheaper considering it's a local brewery, i'd buy it a lot more often.
