Served in a Bruery tulip with a Bruery bottle opener, just because. Beer is amber and hazy with a nice tight white head of small bubbles, lots of lacing, nice retention. Looks good.

Can definitely pick up the pineapple in the aroma, there is also a lot of malt and sweetness, hints of the yeast.

Beer is heavy in body, the pineapple comes through in there as well but there is an almost smoky / spicy flavor that grows and becomes a little off putting. I drank the bottle but the aftertaste got too much toward the end, not a repeat.

This one pours a dense, heavy yellow-orange color, thick throughout with what may also appear to be a touch of chill haze. A small off-white head manages almost a finger with pretty good retention, and light lacing by way of a couple lines and some spotting remains on the glass.
Belgian yeast is evident, adding emphasis to the spicing by way of the clove notes and bringing its dusty sort of earthiness alongside what smells like fresh pineapple juice. The effect it has, though, is to remind me of a dusty can of pineapple slices. There's a candi sugar sort of sweetness as well as a note of something like tropical fruit alongside the pineapple, possibly an effect of the mingling of other notes with the pineapple itself.
The pineapple is strong in this beer and that's good. It seems maybe that maybe the Belgian yeast strain isn't a suitable mate. The effect is a type of sourness going into the finish that reminds me of the taste on my tongue when, attempting to suck the ink toward the tip of a pen after it's hit a dry patch, it explodes in my mouth. It's not exactly that pithy sour bitterness, but it is a sour bitterness. It's not terrible, but it had potential going in that it can't meet.
This beer is thick for its medium body, but the carbonation cuts through that without being too terribly heavy itself.

cool beer ive been dying to try. nearly a 50dollar bottle at falling rock in denver, but thats the price you pay sometimes... the pour is hazy pale yellow in color, washed out looking, with some fine sediment in suspension and an inch of white head. the nose is really tart, almost pushing a sour beer, its funky from the yeast, fruity from the pineapple, and quite boozey as well. i dont taste a ton of pineapple, but i taste its acidic sweet/tart kick, its contributes more to feel than to taste i think, but it works gloriously well in combination with the yeast. i think this beer could be improved by a heftier richer malt body, i found the fruit flavors and essences to be overwhelming in the absence of any serious malts. however, this was a delicious brew, with fine carbonation and just a little too light of a body. overall im sure it was overpriced at the bar, but i am glad i got to try this. its been a brilliant series so far. good bottle to share at this abv!

750ml Bottle poured into a tulip.

Poured a nice golden color with a decent head that lasted.

The smell threw me off a bit as all I could detect were spices. Slight pineapple on the nose but quickly covered up by the yeast notes and spices.

Tasted awful. Could not get around the spices. I had half my glass to make sure I tasted it completely between cold-warm but still couldn't finish it. Luckily I was not alone on this bottle but in the end we all dumped it and moved on.

The only reason for anyone to buy this bottle would be to have the whole set and open them all in 2019. Other than that, do yourself a favor and buy something else.

A- Pours a bright golden color. Fairly opaque, but not really hazy. Bright pearly white head formation that breaks down to a film.

S - Very yeasty nose. A little bit of breadiness combined with all the Belgian hall marks, some white pepper and spiciness along with a citrus note .

T - Starts off on the very sweet side, some pilnser malts seem to be hiding in there. Mid-stream gets more Belgiany, with potent hint of the white pepper. Citrus flavors sneak in, very estery. Finishes with an almost sour almost cider-like flavor.

M - Full bodied, not much corresponding carbonation. Little bit of alcohol warmth, but not out of line in relation to the abv. The sour flavors in the aftertaste coat the tongue.

O/D - An alright beer, the sourness comes through a little too much for me. Filling, and obviously an ABV you have to be careful with. It is pretty mean to the palette.

A - Pours a slightly hazy darker orange with a one inch foamy head with great retention.

S - Sweet citrus and fruit, pineapples mostly. Pretty sweet smelling.

T - Pineapple, and some alcohol burn, spices in the finish, but this one makes me thinks it is designed to last.

D - Decent carbonation and a lighter body.

O - Very sweet, but it does have a Christmas flavor to it.

A: The beer is slightly hazy golden yellow in color and has faint hints of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high off white head that died down rather quickly, leaving lacing on the surface and a collar of large bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: The smell has an interesting mixture of pineapple aromas along with some hints of Belgian yeast.
T: The taste has initial flavors of sweet candi sugars and pineapple juice; these transition into notes of ginger, Belgian yeast and pale malts towards the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. The pineapple flavors lend a slight amount of tartness to the mouthfeel, which has some dryness towards the finish.
O: This beer seems to be a little sweeter compared to other Belgian Strong Pale Ales, but seems like it has just enough dryness and ginger to make it rather drinkable. There are absolutely no traces of alcohol in the taste.

A - The beer poured a beautiful, if slightly murky, amber/orange color. A full 2+" head subsided rather quickly; the lacing was quite noticeable throughout drinking, which somewhat surprised me as the head retention was not that impressive.

S - Pineapple hits you right away. When I read the label upon receiving this bottle as a gift, I was reluctant to say the least. However, the pineapple did not overwhelm and I was soon able to get hints of very pleasant malt notes that lingered beneath clove and coriander.

T - The first thing I tasted was a slight tartness - not bitterness - on the tongue. This was a nice surprise, but unexpected. The pineapple smell that was evident tasted instead strongly of mango, which was strong, but did not mask a taste of butter. The alcohol was quite brilliantly masked by the brewers (quite the feat at 11.5 ABV). I digress here for a moment; I was not able to finish the bottle in one sitting and vacuumed the remaining 1/3 of the bottle to consume a couple days later. While the beer had definitely lost some of its carbonation, the result was a rounder, more balanced tasting experienced highlighted by wonderful notes of caramel. Just in case someone wants to try this, I found that the beer was enhanced by the simple dish of roasted tomatoes and French bread that I was eating with it. This may have been an aberration, but it turned out to be a delightful one if it was.

M - Strong carbonation hit my tongue initially, but there was very little there in terms of substance. The beer slid over my tongue rather quickly without lingering. The taste, however, did stick around for a while on the roof of my mouth.

O - There were certainly ups and downs to this beer, but I generally liked it. I am not usually a huge fan of fruit beers, but this one was better than average. I would not buy it again to drink, but would certainly drink another glass if it were handed to me!

Holiday beer for me this year, good brew with notes of pineapple. The carbonation is crisp and the flavors are blended well. I enjoyed this beer in terms of one and done. My thoughts on this are the Bruery makes quality beer and anything from them is worth a try. I enjoyed the beer for sure but would pass it up for a second bottle only because its not the type of beer you would drink on a regular basis. Pours a nice head and has a good aroma.

Bottom Line: never had it? gotta try it because its a quality beer.

A - Pouring hazy golden straw color, this shining beer has a modest off-white head that slowly descends to a skim of foam and ring of tight bubbles with dots of lace left collected on the glass.

S - 5 Golden Rings has a heavily yeasty aroma that bursts fourth with dry, earthy esters of clay, white pepper, lemongrass, hay field, and coriander. Cinnamon sticks swirl the beer into a spicy frenzy with a dash of nutmeg and clove while the pineapple juice adds residual sweetness giving it a moist white cake nose but any trace of the fruit itself is buried deep. Faint warming alcohol doesn't come across quite solvent-like, but it's definitely evident in the nose, though pushed to the back.

T - Spice heavy like the aroma, this beer blends overwhelming yeast esters with more added spice and piles the sweetness on top of that. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove swirl in with the yeast spice of grey clay, coriander, lemongrass, and a touch of bubblegum. Citrus emerges but pineapple escapes me, again leaning towards white, moist cake with sugary vanilla frosting. With each passing sip, this tastes less and less like a beer and more like...something else.

M - Carbonation is here but surprisingly low for the style, which gives the beer a fuller, robust feel as opposed to a crisp, lively one. The sweetness, in conjunction with the fuller feel makes this beer quite cloying, only balanced by a bone-dry spicy finish with a trailing touch of floral bitterness. Warming alcohol penetrates the chest slowly and can be picked up lightly though retro-nasal breathing; a good attribute for a winter brew!

O - An awkward blend of spice and sweetness vying for attention throws one for a loop but I must admit, the lack of alcohol perception in this beer is quite incredible for it's boastful 11.5%. So, 5 Golden Rings is a bit unattractive - ok, average - fresh but, then again, I didn't really buy my bottles to have them fresh. I have faith the two bottles sitting in the basement will mature nicely, developing over the next few years for an epic culmination of aging. It's always good to reflect on where the aged beer has come from though, and this one could certainly stand some age improvements.

Appearance: Pours a deeply clouded, dark orange-yellow body with an initially tall, near white head that soon settles out leaving, appropriately, a ring of bubbles. Nil lacing.

Smell: Sweet-scented in the nose of candy-coated maltiness, given a generous dose of spices, and accompanying some rather cutting wafts of alcohol. There’s a ranging fruitiness in the nose, initially, pineapple, but, then, more orchard fruits, and, with a little warmth, some banana puree.

Taste: Sweet, syrupy maltiness, but a fast adhesion of the tangy-tasting pineapple fruitiness, though there’s also some orchard fruit character and banana esters as well. Spicy yeast, aided by the peppery alcohol (a bit hot, actually), and boosted by the spice additions. Finishes out sweetish and fruity, leaving a little hot alcohol and spice to sit on the tongue.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: To nobody’s surprise, it’s sweet, spicy, fruity, and boozy - it’s a beer requiring a tall glass of water and a long winter’s nap.

A: Very, very, very murky orange, with a nice 1/3 finger head.

S: Sort of a citrus/pepper combo with an added white pepper element. Nice smell!

T: Ridiculously bitter, plus a good bit of pumpkin ale-ish sort of quality. Pepper and then some... whoa! Not like I was expecting.

M: Not too sugary, but infinitely interesting. Nice lacing, bitter (I defy anyone to say it's not!). The carbonation level was fine.

O: I expected more here. Loved Three French Hens, but thought this one wasn't to my taste.

Pours bronze/honey with a thumb of cream colored head. Viscous look to this, zero head retention & lacing

S: Big-time pineapple & a touch of apple blossom

T: Much pineapple, boozy orange & lemon zest up front. A touch of candi sugar mixes with pineapple as this warms & just a bit of golden delicious apple hard cider. Finishes sweet with slight pineapple tartness & a touch of honey

MF: Medium bodied, slight carbonation, slickens up as this warms

One to cellar, too much pineapple & not much of anything else in this one. I would love to try one about a year from now, but wouldn't risk buying it again. I do consider this a worthy experiment though

Pours clear bright orange with a small white head. Hardly any retention and a little lacing.

Smells exactly like pineapple juice with some added spices and booziness. Maybe some cinnamon, but pineapple overwhelms most of the spice character.

Similar flavors as well. At times I feel like I am drinking pineapple juice. Some lemon, banana, nutmeg and a flavor I can only describe as "Hawaiin sweet bread" are also noted. A little bit of an alcohol bite, but goes down very smooth. Would never guess this is 11.5%

Medium bodied with ample carbonation. An almost tart aftertaste finishing a bit dry.

Bruery Xmas beers have ranged from meh to horrible for me in the past, so I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this one, but then again I do like pineapple juice. Spices are restrained enough that it is drinkable although there isn't a ton of depth or complexity to this one.

Pours a hazy golden orange color, big plume of white bubbles, sticky lacing. Scent strong with notes of citrus and tropical fruits, more bitter than sweet, vinous notes throughout with some herbal qualities... lots going on here. Taste begins with light watery tropical and citrus before full bitter grapefruit notes present themselves. Chardonnay like vinous notes and some medicinal herbal qualities, some strong yeast notes round out the taste. Medium bodied, light in carbonation despite big initial head. A little too much going on here, would have liked some thing dialed back a bit.

750ml bottle into a matching Bruery snifter. The brew appears a hazed golden color with a white cap. Some spotty lace sticks to the glass and a swirl revives a finger of yellowish stained silky topping back to the surface.

The aromatics are filled with pineapple and spicy clove. Almost tart smelling with some earthen aspect. It gets sulfuric when swirled. Overall an interesting twist on a pale belgian golden ale.

The taste is spicy with a flavor of clove and earth. Some fruity elements of pineapple and pears. A smsll hint of cinnamon and nutmeg with a warming alcohol inclusion. There is lots of apple to cider flavoring that comes forward as the brew warms up.

This is a medium to fuller bodied brew with a thick and creamy feel. It is very rich in the feel with the alcohol being hidden initally and then really warming up as the experience continues. This is a nice twist that is unique and worth a try. Having had it, I dont think I would buy it again but wouldnt mind maybe having this with some age on it.

A: Pours a clear, amber-gold pour. Big fluffy and frothy white head. Head fades away at a moderate pace but leaves only the smallest bits of lacing behind.

S: Spicy. Ginger and cinnamon maybe? Touch of breadiness and a little tropical fruit.

T: Whoa. Very strong flavors up front. Lots of ginger primarily. Swear I get a little cinnamon maybe but I'm not sure. Some other spices I can't identify. A bit of yeasty bread in the middle. Some pineapple in the finish that mixes in. Long lingering spicy finish. Flavor and spices are strong enough that I shudder at every sip. Not in a good way, either.

M: Heavy, thick.

O: Whew, tough one to drink. Just a mess of super strong spices and fruit. No real indication of alcohol but super harsh nonetheless. I could not drink this one and ended up drainpouring it. Just an unpleasant combination of strong flavors. Maybe with some age on it it would be decent. For reference, I love some of the stronger beers like 120min, Chocolate Rain, etc but this was just ...bleh. A mess of a beer.

Appearance- Truely a hazy golden color with about a half finger of small white bubbly head. It dissipates to apmost nothing and leaves no lacing.

Smell- Tons of clove, cinnamon and other heavy spice notes. Also, lots of fruit and big pineapple notes.

Taste- Wow, palate explosion. Seriously my paoate almost couldnt handpe the explosion. The front of the tongue is hit will all the big spices and then quickly transitions to sweet fruitty flavors and then with 1 foul swoop is cut down with a sour pineapple and lemon finish.

Mouthfeel- Medium body with nice amiunts of carbonation that pairs well with the flavor profile.

Overall- Pardon my french, but this beer is a kick in the ass to the palate. My downside is that because its so extreme, it is kind of hard to drink. This is probably served best as a 6oz sipper to share with a bunch of friends on a cold winter night.

Pours a hazy yellow-ish to orange-ish color with an off white head. In the aroma, pineapple citrus and smokey ham. In the taste, well, it tastes of the pineapple rings that came off a ham after it was cooked. A light spice and a medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a dry pineapple and salty smoke in the aftertaste. It is seriously just like the pineapple off of a cooked ham. Sweet, salty, smokey, and touches of spice.

P: Dark golden apricot body with a decent crown of white creamy head that bubbles down to a thin silky layer. Wet lacing around the edges.

S: Overpowering pineapple booze, tropical bubblicious gum, powdery yeast, ginger, white grapes, hints of honey, black pepper, allspice and cinnamon. Banana esters appear once agitated.

T/M: Odd! Pineapple juice, lemon zest, a hefty dose of allspice, pickled ginger, clove and black pepper. Mouthfeel is amazingly smooth and creamy with just a pinch if stinging carbonation. Finish is semidry with cinnamon apple peels lingering in the back of the throat. Similar to drinking hot apple cider. Booze was not as abrupt as the smell and highlights the flavors.

O: 5 rings of oddness. At first I hated this beer. The first smell and taste almost caused me to grab something else. But it really opened up once it warmed and had a chance to breathe. The pineapple is the elephant in the room that actually works to an extent. This is an interesting take on the style and I can't say I hate it. I would like to see how this one ages for the next 7 years. May have to hunt another one down. Cheers!

Served in a Mundelein Craft Beer Festival shaker pint glass.

Memories of Eddie Izzard come flowing back to me here... This stuff pours a hazy amber-gold (how appropriate) topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises white grapes, mango, orange sherbet, light banana, and light maple syrup. The taste holds notes of white wine (I got the sense of oaked chardonnay here, though this particular specificity seemed particular to me this evening), pineapple, honey, light Belgian yeast, and very light clove. The body is a light-leaning medium, with a very light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda syrupy feel. Overall, a surprisingly tasty brew. Frankly, when I read the label, I was sure this was gonna be a substantial mess, but the ingredients worked very well together, a sign that cooperation amongst disparate and seemingly inevitably clashing views can indeed coexist peacefully and productively.

A - Golden amber with a white head and little lacing.

S - Christmas ham, over ripe pineapple, allspice, light cinnamon. Can't tell you the last time I had fruitcake but reminds me of ham and fruitcake.

T - Sweet malt with an alcohol kick followed by clove like spice. Pineapple juice, allspice, yeasty phenols.

M - Medium body and almost syrupy which makes it feel more like a ham with pineapple and clove the more you drink it.

D - A bit late on the advice but do not drink with a xmas ham dinner or you might not be able to tell the two apart. Served this one at about 50-55F and it either became more tolerable as it warmed or as my tongue went numb to the flavor. Have heard from homebrewers that have tried that it is impossible to make a decent pineapple beer. Thought I would give this one a try to prove them wrong but alas it might be true.

Pours a deep colored orange with a healthy head that lingers throughout the beer. Smell is sweet - smells like a Belgian triple with some spice and fruit. Taste is very sweet. Definite pineapple, spices, and kumquat or some other strong citrus flavor. Didn't notice the high ABV initially but as you drink more of this beer it becomes apparent. Also the sweetness of this brew wears on you after a bit. Different.

750 ml bottle my brother brought home for Christmas. Poured into a Delirium Noel snifter...

A - Pours a pretty hazy, orange-gold color. A big, frothy eggshell white head forms about 2 fingers tall. The head recedes and leaves some nice lacing along the glass.

S - Wow. There is a pretty sweet aroma right off the bat. Sweet notes of candi sugar and malts first. Sweet pineapple, mango, and white grape come next. The spices are mixed in with ginger bein the strongest component of the mix.

T - Sweet flavors just as sweet as the nose. Pale malts, candi sugar and sugary fruits all come out. Pineapple, lemon, and white grape are very strong. Syrupy and sugary meet spices like ginger and all-spice. Yeasty esters add a hint of banana to the overall mix.

M - Sweet and syrupy body here. The syrupy body adds a bit of heft to an orherwise medium bodied beer. The alcohol is a bit hot as well.

O - Not a bad beer, but this one had a lot more going on than I think it needed. It was a bit sweeter than I had hoped. A nice addition to the lineup, but I'm not sure how this one will last until the 12th year.
