Bottle (2010)

The Bruery Initiation Party 2013
Anaheim, CA

(Aged for 2+ years)

Dark, cloudy brown with very minimal carbonation. There's a small ring of small bubbles clinging to the top of the liquid, but this isn't particularly bubbly. Leaves the glass slightly oily and spotted with stick. Unsurprising and pretty enough for the style considering it spent time in the barrel.

Incredible, rich, inviting aroma. Integrated bourbon (oak and vanilla), dark breads, decadent chocolate, and even just a hint of coffee fruit cake. Very nice.

The flavor is similar to the aroma, with the bourbon barrel leading the way, along with caramels, candy bar, and just the slightest hint of alcohol burn. Delightfully complex, yet marvelously drinkable.

Full in body with low carbonation. Oily, decadent, and rich.

Fantastic. Perhaps the beer of the day.

Bottle pour for the Bruery Initiation Celebration held at The Phoenix Club in Anaheim, CA.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy beige head that fades to nothing. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, brown sugar, caramel, toffee, dark fruits, and alcohol. Taste is much the same with a sweet brown sugar flavor and an alcohol kick on the finish. There is a medium amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer that is quite tasty and holding up very well for its age.

Received in trade from t0rin0, thanks for hooking me up with a long time want Bobby!

Pours a solid dark brown with the faintest of garnet highlights when held to light an impish off white head dissipates almost instantly. Smells of bourbon, wood, and vanilla with a solid shot of ethanol. Chocolate and brown sugar coated raisins and nuts round out the nose. The flavor is sweet up front with a hit of grape an raisins before the onslaught of barrel moves onto my palette. Bourbon vanilla earthy wood and vodka burn their way through my gullet eventually settling into a dark fruity sweet sugary finish that lingers long after every sip. Medium to thick body with a sweet oily coating mouthfeel and a light level of carbonation. There's a lot going on here and most if it is great. I did find the alcohol to be a bit harsh but that didn't stop me from sipping on this celebratory bad boy all night.

Huge thanks to Amyliz4 for opening this one up next to a bottle of the regular version. Served in a Bruery tulip. Pours a moderately-dark brown with a nice tan head. Spots of lacing. The nose carries really excellent bourbon notes. So smooth, and well integrated with the base beer. Nice dark fruits and moderate sweetness in the background. Still a touch of caramelized character. Flavor isn’t quite as nicely done, but the bourbon and base still meld well. Medium body; quite smooth. Very tasty.

From 12/01/12 notes.

a - Pours a dark brown color with a few lightly tan bubbles and lot to moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of bourbon, caramel malts, toffee, vanilla chocolate, oak, bready malts, and toasted malts. Awesome nose; a ton of bourbon and caramel to it.

t - Tastes of caramel malts, bourbon, oak, vanilla roasted malts, chocolate, toffee, toasted malts, bready malts, spices. More caramel than the nose and again, lots of bourbon; not hot though. Really awesome.

m - Thick and chewy full body and low carbonation. Lots of bourbon but not hot; awesome mouthfeel.

o - Overall a fantastic beer from the Bruery. Reminds me a little bit of their 100% BA Cuir but with a little more caramel to it. Tons of bourbon, caramel, and chocolate and not hot at all. Would love to have it again and hoping the BA 4 Calling Birds I just ordered is just as good.

Thanks to Jason for opening this at his birthday celebration. Served in a Hill Farmstead glass.

A - Tan foam settles to wisps, a thick collar, and splotchy lacework. Very dark brown body.

S - Great bourbon and barrel aroma, vanilla, oak, chocolate and nut brownies, light tobacco, and superbly well-hidden alcohol. Not much Belgian character but who cares?

T - The taste reveals a bit more of the base beer's heavy chocolate and caramel flavors, as well as some oxidized fruity flavors. Oak, vanilla, and bourbon show up later and linger into the finish. Not much alcohol here either.

M - Medium-full body, chewy and viscous, with an oaky, tannic, and dry finish. Thankfully the barrel-aging didn't thin this out too much as it still drinks like dessert. Again, well-hidden alcohol.

D - Excellent beer - the best of the barrel-aged Christmas beers and probably The Bruery beer I'd be most interested in having again. Good thing I've got a bottle in the cellar! Already really mellow, so I wouldn't age this much longer.

Thanks Amy, always so generous with the Bruery rarities. Beer served in a Bruery glass. Beer is brown and hazy with a wispy white head of small bubbles, no lacing, low retention, low carbonation.

Aroma is sweet, spicy and bourbon, smells nice.

Beer is medium in body and sweet with a nice finish, overall a good beer and I'd love to have more. The spices plays nicely with the malt and the finish is great, liquor forward and a ncie finish. very good beer.

Shared by Thorpe429. Thanks Mike.

The beer is dark chestnut brown with a thin tan head. The aroma offers a pleasant bouquet of vanilla, oak, bourbon, chocolate. Lovely flavor, with additional notes of caramel and toffee. A delightful sipping beer. Light to medium in body with lingering sweet booze and bourbon. A tasty beer from The Bruery.

Shared by Andrewinski1. Thanks homey. Poured into a tulip. This one pours a dark brown with a thin ring of mocha colored foam around the rim.

The aroma has a rich bitter cocoa aroma with some hints of spice such as cinnamon. Notes of plumbs and other dark fruits. Nice mellow barrel characters here with just a kiss of bourbon lingering in the background. The pallet has a lot of fruity characters with sweet plumbs and a bit of tart cherries on the finish. Sweet bitter cocoa with some hints of caramel and toffee. Nice mellow bourbon on the flavor.

The body is thick and chewy with soft carbonation. Overall this one is very enjoyable. The tartness on the pallet kind of seems a bit out of place but overall this is enjoyable.

Thanks to Claaark13 for the nice tick! Poured into a tulip. The color is pitch black with slight amber hues. There is a small light tan head.

The aroma has lots of chocolate with some vanilla and bourbon thrown in. I'm excited about the taste from the aroma.

The taste has lots of nice chocolateyness. There is a bit of fruityness in the front that hints at some tartness. The finish is all boozy bourbon that's quite warming. This dances between quad and stout-like characteristics.

This is a thick, slow sipper with not much carbonation (just enough to be there). This was a real treat!
