Review from notes dated July 13th 2011
bottle shared with Klym after a provisions run.
A: Deep red with some lightness akin to candied apples. Egg white head of about three fingers. Pour wasn't so violent, but the foam kept rising! Wedding veil lacing all along the glass. This beer is ready for marriage.
S: Floral sweet and subtle hops up front. A light crescent bread note from the yeast, and a raw butter note in the finish. The wood really sweetens the hop, and dries all the fruits. Light herbal potency in the finish. All around solid smells.
T: Strong resin-free hop with accentuated floral notes. Caramel, vanilla, and dry apple sweetness. Herbal notes reminiscent of citrusy teas, lemongrass, and light green teas. Very delicious, and pleasantly surprising flavor transition after flavor transition.
M: A medium-full body with properly proportioned bubbles to flavor. There's a balance in here that does well with the wood, fizzy but not a wood-aged soda pop. Really just drinks like a fresh IPA. Delicate flavors on a solid wood-platter body.
O: Creamy delicious oaky delight. The wood plays masterfully with the hops. Hop freshness blended with the oak giving this a drier hop experience. It really drinks like a gentleman's IPA, meant for consumption on polo grounds and private golf clubs. Though this isn't a gimmick, the complexity of the flavor is the real deal. Would love to taste this fresh alongside a fresh nugget nectar. Battle for red deliciousness.

A: amber-brown body with Fluffy loose off-white head with good retention
S: crisp piney hops are the predominant on the nose; underneath is some dark honey sweetness and a bit of toastiness;
T: starts with toasted biscuit, has some dry grain; hop bitterness balances everything out at the end. It’s good but maybe a little watered down
M: Medium body with pretty aggressive carb, a bit of syrupiness but no cloy. Pleasant.
O: solid offering from a brewery whose lower gravity beers can be a little hit or miss

Clear red colored ale with a very tall tan colored head. It certainly is the color red. Smells strongly malty with lots of caramel.
Smells a bit soapy. Scent of cinnamon and sandalwood. It is quite woody scented. Certainly it is woody.
Starts out mildly sweet and a bit savory. Sensation of salt on the tongue. Taste of caramel and wood, think caramel apple stick where the caramel soaks in deeply. But that is pretty much it, mild caramel and woody.
Mouthfeel is good.
Overall this is a mild ale that wants to please. You could drink this anytime with any sort of food.

Intriguing. Intriguing like Barbara Stanwyk as a blonde circa Double Indemnity. Now, almost like said masterpiece, is the perfect crime pulled off? Almost. It has a lot going on. IPA hoppy, Red Ale caramels... and then there’s that oak! And what’s interesting enough, unlike a Kardashian, is that they are all very subtle. Not one note hits you over the head like a Brahmas concerto.
It’s good. Not great. Just good.

Bottle to becher pint glass, the appearance was a ruddy burnt amber color with a minimal white foamy head that fell off at a slow pace. Some stringy lace. The aroma had a clean smooth sweet caramel/toffee malt base rolling over some citrusy sweet and bitter hops. Light earthiness and a little bit of roasted to sweet nuts amplify the overall enjoyment of the nose. The flavor had the sweetness up front of the prior mentioned aromas to collide with the roastiness and a subtle herbal to floral smooth sweet contour. Aftertaste mixed the caramel/toffee malts with the hops pretty nice. Finish was clean, smooth and sweet. The palate was medium bodied with a pretty good sessionability about it. Carbonation and ABV felt as projected by the brewer. Overall, pretty damn nice beer by not a cheap brewery, but hey the second bottle I was able to get of this I had with a grilled bacon and parmesan cheese sandwich and well, I have to admit, that was one hell of a pairing!
