Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a tulip. Thanks to bauermj for bringing this over.

Appearance: This is a cloudy muted golden color with a brown tint. A very small off-white head is all that remains after an aggressive pour.

Smell: There is a very robust smell of bourbon. Soft caramel, bourbon, oak, vanilla, soft grains, tart lemon, flowers.

Taste: Bourbon is a prime flavor here. Some soft light malts, full bourbon, vanilla, and spicy oak. Some interesting soft, dry malts, honey, and flowers back up the bourbon. The finish has a strange alcohol flavor.

Mouthfeel: This has a full body for a Belgian Strong Pale, but it feels light for a bourbon barrel beer. The carbonation is on the light side and more creamy than crisp. There is a strange film on the tongue at the end of each sip.

Overall: This is a little bit confusing at first, but in the end I found it to be fairly enjoyable. The bourbon is more than accentuated, it is put on a pedestal and admired. The rest of the beer really fades back and lets the bourbon shine.

Pouring a hazy, murky orange with a thick white head that falls off rather quickly leaving little lacing, this beer isn't particularly attractive. I shall cut it some slack 'cos I didn't really wait for the yeast to settle down after shipping, though. The nose is rather big and sweet with a moderate Belgian yeast character still present. A big, wet bourbon barrel character is present, lending massive vanilla and moderate coconut aromatics that complement the yeast notes quite well. The malt seems mildly doughy and biscuit-like (some Belgian pils?), not quite working but not failing either.

The palate is a little disappointing. Boozy, yes, mildly spicy (clove and allspice), but surprisingly tannic, with some barrel astringency present. The alcohol does singe the palate a bit too. The bourbon notes don't really work with the Belgian yeast. Vanilla from the bourbon does appear on the mid-palate. Moderately sweet with dough, honey and a little caramel, this beer dries on the finish, especially with the booze, leaving a blend of boozy astringency and moderate spice. Medium in body with a nice, creamy carbonation, this is nice on the palate (except for the finish). Solid stuff, this is quite nice IMO.

Vintage 2010

Poured to a Bruery tulip glass, hazy golden orange with a fingers width of white head. The smell is complex: spices, belgian yeast, slight farmhouse funk & faint bourbon. The taste is top notch: plenty of Vanilla and coconut from the barrels, spices and spicy yeast esters, banana and caramel, tons complexity, tons of balance. Well carbonated with the right amount of flavor lingering. Dry but not too dry. I absolutely love this beer, if I could get my hands on more of these without trading off my first born I'd be thrilled. One of my favorite beers of 2012

a- light orange, relatively clear for a bruery beer. a small white head manifests on top but dissipates quickly. almost dark straw around the rim of the glass.

s- smells sour. apples, pears, vanilla, and coconut. that bruery funkiness is there. this is almost seeming like a sour white oak. this is almost a little medicinally, but in a good way, if that makes any sense.

t- same as nose. definitely seeming like a barrel aged sour. reminds me of an albarino wine from spain. this is a surprisingly tart, refreshing beer. it just keeps unraveling, tropical fruits are more prevalent in in the taste..some pineapple, and ripe melons.

m- nice carbonation. smooth, with a slight burn from the alcohol.

o- i liked it. im not really a sour guy but i am open to the style. refreshing on a hot summers night. this beer really held up well.

Pours a hazy, golden orangish color with a large white head that takes some time to go down. At first, scent is very comparable to White Oak (the bourbon with the citrus and Belgian yeast aromas). As the beer settles, the aromas makes itself to be much more sweet than White Oak, and with a little more bourbon and vanilla. Some creamy caramel as well with a hint of butterscotch. Taste is citrusy at frst with a lot of lemon and some zesty spiciness to it. There is a good amount af bourbon in the flavor with some boozy components immediately following. More citrus, orange peel and grape flavor, immediately followed by sweeet bourbon and vanilla. Pleasant Belgian yeast characteristics throughout. Mouthfeel is a little on the lighter side, leaning toward medium. Drinkability is fairly high for being so sweet and rich. Overall, very much like White Oak, although White Oak is much more complex. This one is more bourbon forward with more sweetness. A very tasty beer nonetheless.

A - Pours a cloudy golden-orange color with a half-finger of frothy white head atop. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some light lace.

S - Aroma is a mix of Bourbon and oak with Belgian yeast esters, some spices, lemon zest, vanilla, funkiness, and grains.

T - Starts off with a mix of Belgian yeast esters with some lemon zest and some light spices with just a touch of Bourbon in the background. Through the middle the Bourbon comes through a bit stronger with some oak and vanilla, and a bit of farmhouse flavors and funk. The finish is a mix of vanilla, oak, lemon zest, yeast flavors, spices, and a touch of booze.

M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a warming, spicy, and dry finish.

D - Very drinkable. The Bourbon aging did some great things to this beer. The base beer holds up really well and the complexity and balance are very good.

The beer pours a a light golden with a fluffy white head. It's got a light, smooth booziness that melds well with the beer's spice and sweetness. This is a very drinkable beer with a big brown banana aftertaste... sounds weird to say that. Very sweet with beer that may mellow our nicely with time.

Bottle pour at the Bruery Reserve Society initiation party at The Phoenix Club in Anaheim, CA.

Pours a murky light orange with an off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain and sour fruits (especially cranberry). Taste is of grain, fruits, vanilla, and wood. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with some nice aromas and flavors. I really don't get any distinct bourbon aromas or flavors however.
