Style | ABV
Flanders Red Ale |  7.50% ABV

Availability: Fall. bottle (240), on-tap (39)

Notes:
Oude Tart is our take on a Flanders Style red ale. It has won back to back gold medals in that category at the World Beer Cup (2010 & 2012) as well as a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 2010. This sour red ale ages in oak barrels for anywhere from 6 to 18 months before being carefully blended to taste. The resulting beer is pleasantly sour with hints of leather, dark fruit and toasty oak.

A-Deep brown with a one finger head

S-Oak, funk, dark fruits, caramel, candied sugar. Good balance.

T-Nice and sour. Oak, funk, dark fruits and candied sugar like the nose. Balances well together.

M-Medium bodied, not much carbonation.

O-A great sour, the balance was spot on, a great beer that was worth the price tag.

750mL bottle from Bullock's (Woodstock, GA). 19.99. No bottle date but this was released fall 2012. Served in a wine glass.

Pours an almost muddy red brown with less than half a finger dark cream head which quickly recedes without leaving any lace.

Smells crisp tart, lemons, vinegar and sour fruit.

A crazy, complex, puckeringly tart mix of lemons, sour apple, cherry skin, vinegar. worchestershire sauce, woodsy oak, leather, earth, brown sugar and must. No alcohol at all and just all around great.

Dry,puckering, medium light body with sharp, crisp carbonation.

This has the distinction of being the first sour beer that I've thouroughly enjoyed. Very complex. I'm looking forward to trying the cherry variation.

Split a bottle with a couple of friends, poured into a wine glass.

Appearance is dark red - brown with a short head. Its` nose hits right away with vinegar, dried fruits and funk. For the taste, there are cherries, certainly a tartness as the name implies, a little flavor of red wine too. Mouthfeel is medium, rich, it makes you pucker and some of the sourness lingers. But, it is a in pleasant manner. Had this a few times, but wanted to finally take some notes. It is nice that it is now easy to get in the New York area.
