Meaning "rye bread" in Danish, we took our inspiration for this beer from the Danes' staple dark, whole-grain rye bread. Brewed with three types of rye malt, this robust brown ale showcases the earthy, spicy character of the grain, complemented by bready, nutty barley malts and a hint of roast. Loosely based on the Scandinavian Christmas beer of "Julebryg" tradition, this beer is perfect for the colder weather of winter, although it will be available year-round (because who doesn't love a dark beer now and again, regardless of weather?) And don't worry about the name, we can't pronounce it either! But we do have a video of us and a lot of other trying our best at it.

Pours a rich amber with a robust 1" foamy tan head with good retention and lacing. Nose is rye bread, spice, mild dark fruits, and light earthiness. Taste is relatively sweet, like a sweetened brown bread or even more precisely Hverabrauð (if you happened to have had it). As it warms, dark fruit (cherry in particular) comes to the front. A little more hop or spice would provide some balance here, but the taste is still pleasant enough. Mouthfeel is creamy and soft, which does make it feel a little heavy. All told, though, this would be a great winter beer to pair with food, and I'll likely pick up a couple more for that reason!

Drank 2/2023, 2022 edition.
Brown and ruby with quickly dissipating of white head. Nose is plums, red grapes, caramel and brown bread malts. Taste follows the nose though lighter with faint plum, red grape, cherry, and wisps of brown bread, caramel, and a touch of rye alcohol. Body is light to medium with similar carbonation. Ends semi dry with a lingering white cherry note. Overall it’s nice, and well balanced.

L: Nice lacing, pours a dark brown, almost black with quickly dissipating head. Appearance reminds me of cola.

S: Bread, booze, and vanilla come through strong on the nose. Definitely has a bourbon barrel aged thing going on here.

T: Faint spice and vanilla, with some toasted bread and dark malts. Has a little booziness despite the relatively low ABV. Hops are barely noticeable. Reminds me a bit of a fine rum with lower ABV, but yeasty.

F: Nice and medium bodied, goes down smooth.

O: One of my favorite beers. Delicious and unique. Got it at a discount for $4 for a 750 ml. For that price, I would gladly get it again.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip. The taste is deep and rich -- mainly of dried cherries, with the aftertaste suggesting a brighter, fresh cherry flavor.

Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a fairly dark amber color with a sheet of level white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace. Lace seemed to trickle in a nice manner.
The aroma had the spicy to sweet portions of rye up front, slight floral bitterness, smooth caramel malts, and a light Belgian yeasty/breadiness rounding it out just a touch further.
The flavor brought the sweet to the spice and providing an intricate layer of the Belgian yeasty/breadiness to round it all out exactly the way any "rye beer" fan could absolutely love. Aftertaste followed suite, quite impressive.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a sturdy sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt appropriate. Some smoothness but not too much.
Overall, pretty nice rye beer with an added bonus of the "Belgian aspects" making it a beer well worthy of wanting more of at possibly any time of the year.

This dark rye ale pours a very dark brown color with a fairly minimal white head. The smell is very mild and malty. The taste is really nice and quite complex. There are strong flavors of rye, toasted bread, and some pretty nice spice notes also which include clove and pepper. There is a very slightly sweet chocolate aftertaste as well. The body is somewhat heavy, but it is very smooth and creamy as well. This is a very unique beer. I don’t think I’ve ever had anything quite like this. I would definitely want to get this again and as I drink it I actually think if anything I begin to like it more. This brewery is kind of a mixed bag in my opinion, but when it does beers right, they are really good and this is definitely an example of that.
