I had the 2010 Black Tuesday so it had been aged about 2 1/2 years.
The strongest taste I got was primarily caramel, but I was also able to taste chocolate, cherries, plum, rye, smoke, cream, and a very VERY subtle hint of copper.
The look wasn't all too appealing, mostly because of the lack of head, which I know should be expected anyways, but just didn't help the look at all. The lacing also wasn't as thick as I would've preferred.
Smell was excellent.
In total, nearly a perfect score for me.

Can’t believe I haven’t had this until now. Bottle shared at the Santa Cruz tasting in January. Supersweet chocolate syrupy flavors do their best to hide a massive alcohol heat. The flavor profile is actually really nice but the booze makes it hard to drink.

2012 vintage. Waxed 750 ml bottle. Served in a CCB snifter.
A: Pours an opaque black color. Pretty still with no head. Like motor oil.
S: Boozy chocolate liquor with some bourbon notes and some chocolate covered raisins. Fusel alcohol notes on the finish with some heat.
T: Boozy milk chocolate. Pretty hot. Bourbon with some caramel sweetness. Alcohol notes.
M: Heavy bodied with an oily and slick mouthfeel. Heat on the finsih. Medium low carbonation.
O: Big and boozy as expected. Not as sweet as Chocolate Rain so I liked this a tad more.

2010 bottle: Had this with a few friends for a Christmas party... All I can say is how much hedonism can you fit into a bottle? At least that's what my notes said. Big chocolate syrup notes, dark fruit, coffee and unsweetened cocoa powder. The mouthfeel is silky and immense, It was almost hard to drink between the three of us, at least it would have been if it wasn't so delicious. That being said, this beer is probably the most extreme examples of a stout there can be, and definitely worth picking up and sharing with some good friends.

Pours a very dark cola brown with a very short-lived caramel-colored head. Aromas of sweet coconut, brown sugar, alcohol, and when the alcohol fades, milk chocolate. Very, very rich. Phenomenally creamy mouthfeel. Barely any carbonation at all--and that's appreciated. A lot of chocolate, a bit of coconut, alcohol, and maybe some vanilla. Very sweet, very potent. Like Parabola with more alcohol. I love it. Trying to sip it, but its so delicious that I keep wanting to drink it.

Have had bottled and on tap. Seams like there's more flavor when served from a bottle.
A. Real thick black with a small dark brown head.
S. Strong bourbon, chocolate, and coffee.
T. Flavor packs a punch and lingers wonderfully after being drank. The perfect amount of chocolate and coffee.
M. Goes down real smooth. Just a little more syrup than most would like but not bad.
Overall I have to say that this is the king of stouts and the only beers that stand near are the variations which furthermore prove my point.

750ml bottle shared by Jason, into a snifter. 2012 bottle.
A: Pours still-looking, with a mahogany-black body and a tiny bit of brown lacing around the edges.
S: Lots of marshmallow and caramel character from the barrel in the nose. Thick hot chocolate. Pleasant booziness builds as it warms.
T: Boozy chocolate, roasted grain, light figgy sweetness, caramel and tannic vanilla. Big alcohol burn in the finish. The maltiness matches it, though.
M: Thick-bodied, tingly carbonation with some pleasant alcohol warmth.
O: Really tasty beer. The alcohol, despite being palpable, is less disruptive than I expected.

I really like this beer. Everything about it is a great stout. Not overly boozy, though it is front and center all the time.
What I like most is the quote on the front of the bottle. All things are fleeting. Bulls and bears will come and go, but pigs get slaughtered.

2012 from the most recent release! I shared this with a few of my family members to finish off the NFL season! GO BEARS!
A: Black, motor oil like! I don't think that bourbon barrel aged stouts get much darker!
Smell: sweet bourbon is all I can smell, which is my favorite!!!
taste; Very Very sweet, vanilla, bourbon, chocolate, dark malts aka DELICiOUS!!!
mouthfeel: perfect body on it for the style!
Overall: Okay this is my favorite part. This beer is absolutely fantastic. This beer is 19.2% and you can't taste an ounce of alcohol! no burn!!!! It is very sweet and a complete treat for anyone that enjoys this style.
Get your hands on this, definitely worth the hype! drink it slowly and at 45 degrees (DONT MESS WITH SERVING TEMP) and don't drink it by yourself unless you want to blackout in 40 minutes.
CHEERS!

2012 bottle opened on 12/28/12. Tasted alongside CBS, BCBCS and Hunahpu's.
A: Jet black with very little head that didn't stick around.
S: Bourbon, roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla and booze.
T: A very rich flavor of chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, bourbon and a nice finish of booze. I was expecting a lot from this beer and I wasn't disappointed. For 19.2% this beer is very well balanced.
M: Right amount of carbonation, smooth and creamy.
O: While I was tasting this I had a buddy say, "If you drank this whole beer, I think it would kill you". That pretty much sums it up. An explosion of flavor and alcohol going on. This beer did not disappoint and I can not wait to acquire some more.

2011 18.3%
A- Pours squid ink black with just a thin whisp of a tan head that fades immediately into the dark abyss that is this beer. No lacing at all but it is an 18.3% RIS so that wasn't really expected anyway. Really ridiculous oily legs when swirled around the glass! Drips like syrup on a cold day.
S- Vanilla beans, bourbon, charred oak, dried mission figs, black raisins, dried cherries, dark belgian cocoa, and alcohol!!! Little hints of extra bitter espresso on the back end finish.
T- Tastes just like the smell. Vanilla, figs, dried cherries, dark chocolate and bourbon. The alcohol although present, blends in seemlessly with the dark fruit, caramel, marshmallow and fudge.
M- Thick as an oil slick! Completely coats your tongue. Love the bourbon, vanilla, chocolate covered marshmallow and toffee. Probably the thickest RIS I've ever had.
O- Thick, chewy, sweet, and full of flavor. This is exactally what I knew it would be, and what I was hoping for. Alcohol/Bourbon is everpresent, but it highlights all the other flavors, bringing them together in perfect harmony. Damn close to a perfect RIS!

2012 vintage. Reviewed on 11/23/2012. 750ml bottle poured into a snifter.
Despite the name the beer pours a deep brown color. It looks closer to black once it settles in the glass but it's still not quite there. Surprisingly, given the ABV, a slight head develops leaves a bit of lacing. Nothing remarkable in general but decent for an 18.2% ABV beer.
The nose is huge here. At first the bourbon comes across and makes it seem extremely boozy, which it is, but once you get past that some nice aromas really open up. There is a great vanilla note that seems to be present throughout. There is some nice dark fruit that peeks its head out. Very raisin-like. There is a bit of some wood as well. Really nice oak character that opens up as the beer warms.
The taste actually seems less boozy than the nose but there is a lot more that comes through. There is still a huge bourbon note but it blends extremely nicely with some vanilla, toffee and oak, some dark fruit, think raisin again, and bit of some chocolate. Aside from the bit of chocolate the rest of the flavors seem to be here in equal parts. Really impressive.
The mouthfeel is huge, as expected. Each sip coats the mouth and sends a slight burn down the throat. That being said, it is also incredibly smooth. The carbonation is low and it is somewhat sticky.
This beer definitely lived up to the hype. It's pretty amazing that a beer this big can feel as smooth and drinkable as it does.

I have had the privilege of trying this brew each year it was released but never got around to writing a formal review. This time I am making it happen with a fresh 2012 bottle into a matching Bruery snifter. The brew pours brown in color as it streams out of the bottle and collects in my glass as a darker fudgy brown color. About a finger of khaki head sits atop and fades to a thin film across the top with less than a half finger holding around the outside perimeter of the glass. Rising bubbles maintain that partial forth around the edge of the glass seemingly throughout the entire duration. When held to the light, the brew shows some lighter brown coloration around the edges with hints of red.
The aroma of this brew is sweet with suggestions of vanilla and chocolate. There are plenty of dark fruity alcohol esters present in the nose mixing with a significant supporting role of whiskey. The residual sweetness of the nose is reminiscent of belgian candy sugar coupled with vinous notes. As the brew warms up, some herbal hop notes come forward. When swirled and as the brew warms, there are very minor roasty elements.
The initial flavors are quite sweet but there is a significant amount of booze also present that is borderline numbing to the tongue. A lot of dark fruity alcohol mingles on the tongue creating flavors akin to raisins, plumes, prunes and molasses with again, a kick of solvent alcohol. When bigger sips are taken, there is a bit of an herbal hop present and dry oak quality. As it warms up, it gets somewhat medicinal with a greater focus on whiskey aspects instead of beer.
This is a full bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It has a huge alcohol impact that really suppresses the overall drinkability. There is quite a bit of complexity here to take in and I gotta say this one has me scratching my head. I dont want to be "that guy" who proclaims the Bruery and this beer has changed but quite frankly, this is not the same beer I remember enjoying in years past. I realize the recipe isn't the same each year and the alcohol varies but this is a significant variance from years past. This is more like a fruity/vinous dark belgian strong ale than the thick and syrupy chocolate smoothie of a beast stout I remember.

Poured from the bottle into a cigar city snifter. When the bottle opened, it stated foaming.
A: I'm a little surprised on the carbonation on this, pretty bubbly. Pours pitch black, with a half inch mocha colored head. Turned into a small ring of bubbles with a bunch of alcohol sticking to the glass.
S: A bold and powerful smelling brew. Bourbon with chocolate, sweet roasted malts and booze.
T: Rich chocolate and bourbon blends with oak, vanilla, roasty malts, a bit of dark fruits and caramel sugar. Rum like alcohol flavor is very present, not drinking like almost 20% but hot, none the less.
M; This is an out there American style beer, not surprised about the hype on this stuff. Strong and incredibly sweet and flavorful. At 19% alcohol this is a dessert brew thats for sipping only.
O: It reminds me of an all malt mixed drink, and I can't really drink more than 6oz. Really awesome though, just something I'd keep in the cellar for 5 years to a decade and drink occasionally with a crew of homies.
It's not my favorite ba imperial stout, I prefer Hunahpu, bcbs and bcbcs and a couple of others just mainly because of mouthfeel and drinkability. This is a great beer though that pushes the limits of brewing. glad I finally got to try this.

The Beers of California
#33
Bottled Date: 2012 Vintage
A: Poured into a oversized wine glass boasting a jet black body with a light brown head that quickly settles down.
S: Strong bourbon alcohol vapors intertwined with licorice, chocolate, espresso, marshmallows, brown sugar, fig and dark fruit.
T: The bourbon is the backbone of this brew which has components of woodiness building through the palate ending in a warm alcohol finish. Built on the bourbon are notes of smoke, espresso, dark chocolate, vanilla, and marshmallow which bring to mind scenes of sitting by a fire with a cup of mocha making s'mores. Running parallel with the bourbon are dark bread and brown sugar maltiness. On top of this there are some dark fruit characteristics: prunes, figs, and raisins.
M: Full bodied, smooth, with some chewiness and carbonation which keeps the feel interesting.
O: The new online allocation system allowed me to grab two bottles of this difficult to obtain brew. An Imperial Stout with an amazing 19.2 ABV. The alcohol is present but not overwhelming dressed with a melange of flavors which makes this an amazing beer to experience. A holiday beer that I am thankful to experience this holiday season.

Cheers to Goblinmunkey7 for acquiring this and sharing this
Note: 2011 vintage
Appearance: Dark, dark brown - not exactly black, but very dark, approaching black - light tan head, impressive amount of carbonation given the barrel aging
Smell: Ow, my brains - tons and tons of bourbon aroma - vanilla and some wood - loads of booze, but not as bursting with ethanol as it could be, I suppose - sweet chocolate, loads of caramel, molasses, and a sack of sugar - some dark fruits - absurdly sweet, flirting with the "do not want" line
Taste: A sweet, sugary, bizarre potion - all kinds of sweet, including caramel, burnt caramel, molasses, brown sugar, white sugar, malt extract - sweet chocolate, like a chocolate hard candy - sweet vanilla - intense bourbon flavor - thankfully, light on the wood and dry alcohol - mild burnt bitterness - dark, cooked fruits - very sweet - absolutely disgusting if consumed with a gulp, but tasty if sipped, hard to give an actual score
Mouthfeel: Full bodied, syrupy, oily, with a legitimate alcohol burn, not a huge fan
Overall: Black Tuesday? More than one of these, and it's more like Blackout Tuesday (omg lol)
This is a syrupy, absurd creation. The level of crazy here is hard to assess. It's somewhere between genuinely disgusting and uniquely charming. I'm very happy that I had a chance to sit down with a full glass of this. It's really not suitable for a small pour at a beer fest. I'll be skipping it at future Extreme Beer Fests.

Thanks to Steve_0 for the hookup. 2011 vintage. Split with angrybabboon.
Appearance: Pours nearly pitch black with a tiny collar the color of espresso crema. Some deep dark brown and reds when held to direct light, but it's pretty minimal. More carbonation than expected, but that's not a bad thing. Syrupy and full on the pour.
Smell: Alcohol. Pure high alcohol coupled with a large amount of bourbon. Sweet, super sweet malts. Char, leather, dark fruit (cherry, fig, plum), it's all there. Vanilla, big hits of oak. Raisins. Boourbon soaked chocolate covered fruit. Molasses and brown sugar. Some hints of sherry and deeper vinous characteristics. Super sweet and boozy.
Taste: Crazy sweet. Sugar and bourbon. I took a shot of bourbon with a cane sugar rim. Some burnt, deeply roasted malts form a big backbone. Loads of brown sugar, vanilla (as in pure vanilla extract - concentrated). Warm leather. Soy sauce. Caramel. Touches of dark chocolate bitterness layered through the back. Bourbon drops a nice oak note. So much sweetness. It's almost cloying as the beer warms. Bourbon soaked raisins, like legit. Sherry, oxidized in a good way.
Mouthfeel: Body is medium-full, pushing closer to full. Negligible carbonation. A bit dry overall. Feels hot and drinks like port.
Overall: This couldn't cause The Great Depression, but it's a reasonable recreation of the Boston Molasses Disaster...if you made molasses out of bourbon.
This beer is big, sweet, and massive. This would be an amazing beer to split with 10 people. It's a solid take on a dessert beer/beer for people that don't like beer. It's a liqueur made of bourbon soaked dark fruit. It loses some points in the long run because anything outside of a 3oz pour is difficult to finish. So heavy and sweet and heavy on the bourbon it's hard to really find the depth.

Many thanks to brew33 for sending this one my way!
2011 vintage:
Not as 'black' as the name might suggest... edges of cola brown clarity, a full finger of khaki tan head fades quickly to a stubborn ring and spotty islands of carb across the center of the glass, thick oily booze legs dominate the lacing.
Loads of rum raisin and tasteful sweet bourbon, dense caramel qualities, smooth charred oak notes play against the different booze notes, vanilla and toffee, faint milk chocolate with figs or dates... it's all over the place. Smells fantastic.
Wow. Sweet syrupy booze that doesn't burn, chocolate sauce, brown sugar, tons of molasses, bold but well integrated barrel notes, figs, quite sweet... one big ass beer, that's for sure. The bourbon character blossoms a bit more as the beer warms. Surprisingly approachable for such a massive beer. A bit cloying but with the lack of boozy burn I expected, I'm fine with that. Definitely a beer that you have to be in the mood for... it's big, it's sweet, it's strong as hell. Thumbs up.
Great, great beer. I wish I had another to play with in the cellar.

2012 vintage. 750ml bottle split between myself, legend8706, and a couple other buddies. Divided equally into wine glasses. Special night, to say the least!
A- Poured a deep murky brown, but not quite black. Very little foam head, but what is there sticks around for a while. Nice light lacing.
S- There is an almost overwhelming aroma of bourbon immediately. Huge on the oak and lots of vanilla. There is also some chocolate here, and perhaps a bit of smokiness as well, although I think that is the wood coming through. It does burn the nostrils a bit, like an actual bourbon or some such high proof liquor.
T- This beer will obviously benefit from some aging, but it is incredible now. Very complex, but easily the best bourbon barrel aged stout I have come across. It is very much like drinking a bourbon. It is pretty sweet, but not just sugary - I am thinking caramel. The oak/woody flavor cuts through well. It is extremely boozy right now, but I suspect that will mellow out in a few years. Ultimately, it has lots of wood, vanilla, bourbon, caramel, chocolate, some bitterness, and plenty of booze (which no one should be surprised at). Mouth is rather thick and syrupy. Carbonation is light. It is creamy and pretty much damn awesome!
O- Black Tuesday was not cheap and was frankly very difficult for me to get my hands on, however, it was worth every penny. I am so glad I was able to enjoy such a truly unique, special beer. This one is not for the faint of heart, but if you are going after it I would guess that you know what you are getting into. I'll see my second bottle in a few years...if I can wait that long.

Reviewing this for my 100th review. This beer is definitely something special
A: Pours a dark coffee-black, lets barely any light through the edges; barely any head, slight oily lacing
S: Strong bourbon/woody notes up front, with hints of leather, vanilla, coconut, and sweet sticky malt. Super complex with a nice woody muskiness that pervades throughout
T: WOW. Starts out with some sweet sticky malts up front; transitions into a roasty/woody sweetness with a strong bourbon backbone along the middle, hints of vanilla, coffee, and chocolate-covered malts; finishes boozy with a nice hint of bitter roasty malt and coconut
M: Ridiculously smooth, with low carbonation and a buttery/oily texture that mellows out the abv. There's a slight amount of heat, but overall the alcohol is hidden exceptionally well.
O: This beer is beyond good, and well worth all the praise it's getting. I'm glad I got two bottles, because I can't wait to see what it tastes like in a couple years. Definitely gonna try and snag more of these.

Pours a murky dark cola brown. Pitch black in the glass with 1cm bubbly head that fades quickly. A bit of bubbly tan ring left around the glass. Not oily like I thought it'd be.
Nose is fantastic, huge, deep and dark richness. Bourbon, vanilla, molasses and bitter chocolate.
Flavor explosion. So big and bold. Balanced because all aspects are big. Big heat, sweetness and robustness. Sweetness is not overpowering at all. Big bourbon character up front. Notes of vanilla, caramel, molasses, oak, alcohol (which I like here) and bittersweet chocolate.
Mouth is full bodied, stIcky with low carb.
Overall it's all I hoped for. Very pleased and happy to FINALLY try this. Glad I have many more of these. The only place I could knock it is the look, but how do you have head on a 19.2% beer?

BT 2011, pours a deep black color, Medium sized tan foamy head. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, vanilla and woody with some alcohol. A full bodied Imperial Stout. A VERY BIG Imperial Stout. The malts are chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, some bourbon and some cherry. The hops are herbal. This beer has a big alcohol presence the first sip and smell are dominated by the alcohol, after that the other flavors start coming through. There is a nice mix of malts, sweetness, vanilla and wood going on here, once you get past the big alcohol blast. This beer has an awesome potential for aging. It is very good now, but a couple or five years of bottle aging would make this beer even more amazing. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Black Tuesday
On Tap at the Bruery Tasting Room
2012 vintage
1st Review
Had this beer Tuesday October 30th at the Bruery Black Tuesday release party
A: Pours a dark brownish red, with almost no head. streams of small bubbles stream up from the sides of the Black Tuesday release taster glass. Some alcohol legs are visible from this 19.2% beast.
S: Like previous vintages, the nose on this beer smacks you in the face with bourbon and vanilla. Some oak and alcohol also.
T: Dark chocolate and coffee are the dominate flavors of this big sugar bomb. There is a faint anise aftertaste. The alcohol burn is a little more pronounced than from previous years. From the first taste this beer shows it’s young age. Even though this beer is blended from many barrels to taste like past years, it needs to lay down for a few months to better blend together. This is my favorite beer; fitting for my first BA review.
M: Great mouthfeel. Not overly thick or syrupy for how sweet this beer is. A little more carbonation would have benefited this beer.
O: This is a fantastic beer! This is the reason I drink craft beer. I have had many BA stouts (Stone BA IRS, Parabola, Eclipse, Marshal Z, Hunahpu, Silva Stout, World Wide Stout, Abyss and the list goes on and on) and Black Tuesday is the best. It is a prime example of balance in a big boozy, sweet barrel aged stout. This is a must have beer, it lives up to the hype. My overall score will improve as this beer rests for a while.

750ml bottle poured into tulip 12/10/12 generously opened by alpinclimber with Mattsander and myself
A not black but dark brown with deep cola edges, no head or lace as expected but some sexy thin legs, looks good but far from as dark as I was expecting
S almost smells more like bourbon then a beer, booze is strong with some molasses, soy faint teriyaki and even some smoky bacon, I get some woody earthy notes and chocolate, smells pretty good
T the booze is strong but if it wasn’t I’d be concerned, not as much soy but the vanilla and chocolate liqueur that replaces it works better for me, most of what I smells still there in one form or another but improved upon
M flat but syrupy and thick, much thicker then I’d guess from the color, its hot but manageable, silky boozy and a lovely bourbon aftertaste, well done for such a massive beer
O this is amazing now and I can only imagine what this would be like in a decade or two, pretty intense brew, I need to use some strength getting my lips apart, seriously though diabetes in a glass
I’m pretty stoked I got to try this one and now I feel the need to own one so I can lay it down for ages. This will end up as a truly amazing beer in 10 or 20 years. Thanks for the crack at this one Adam
