Tripel |  8.10% ABV

Availability: Summer. bottle (251), on-tap (36), cask (4), growler (4)

Notes:
Our Summer seasonal, Trade Winds Tripel is a Belgian-style Golden Ale with a Southeast Asian twist. Instead of using candi sugar (typical for such a beer), we use rice in the mash to lighten the body and increase the gravity, and spice with Thai Basil. The result is an aromatic, digestible and complex beer made for a lazy summer evening.

poured from a bottle bought few months ago

good smell
detect a yogurt
fruity sweetness
some allspice in the background
NOT strong in phenols

tastes sweet, but not cloying
tripel's sweet characteristics persists, but not strongly.
pick up some "fake" strawberry like flavor with some vanilla
it's nice interplay of flavor

it's highly drinkable, unique and nice flavor
go for it if you find one in local shelf

I had this during a summer cook out. It looked very inviting in the glass with a color of the inside of an orange, but I felt the aroma was a little on the weak side. I couldn't taste the thai spice they were talking about but it was refreshing with a crisp finish. Overall it was pretty good, but I can't say I'll be investing in another one.

Appearance: It has a beautiful hazy golden/yellow color to it. It has a nice thick off-white head that dies down moderately and leaves some lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of Belgian yeast, some breadiness, peppery spices, basil and some floral notes.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has some Belgian yeast with peppery spices and basil, floral notes, citrus and some bready malts.

Mouthfeel: It has a high carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas.

750 ml into a pint

A - Pours a dark orange color, fairly opaque. Lots of pearly white head formation. Well retained.

S - Heavy combination of citrus, sour, and some white pepper. Yeast has done its job here. An american Belgian done well in this aspect.

T- Starts off lightly sweet, fruity and white pepper. Turns quickly to some heavy sour notes. Very deep fruity nose through the mid-stream into the finish. Comes in apricot and pear in the finish. A fairly dry tripel.

M - Moderate body and strong carbonation -again well done against the traditions. A little alcohol warmth sneaks in there.

O/D - An excellent tripel - not really what has sold in the US here lately, where i think it has adhered to the funk and the dry finish of the original. Abv is fairly hefty, but still low and manageable.
