6 Geese-A-Laying is the 6th beer in our "12 Days of Christmas" series and is a return to the more classic dark and toasty winter ale, following the appropriately blonde 5 Golden Rings. Brewed with cape gooseberries, this malty ale displays notes of plums, dark cherry and bright, citrus-like flavors from the namesake berries. The bourbon barrel aged variation showcases oaky vanillin and caramel-like sweetness from a year aged in previously-used barrels.

2020 Vintage
375ml bottle poured into a tulip
A- pours brown in color with a one-finger foamy off-white head that reduces to a ring around the edge
S- Belgian candi sugars with an array of dark fruits, including raisins, figs and prunes. Notes of molasses, oak, vanilla, bourbon, tobacco, brown sugar and a hint of bright citrus
T- sweet and malty up front with notes of molasses, caramel and toffee, quickly followed by a slightly citrus tartness that adds a brightness, presumably from the gooseberries. Mid-palate gives barrel notes of oak, barrel juice and vanilla. The finish gives more caramel, along with dark fruits and some spicy and peppery yeast
M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into a warming finish
O- nice and malty sipper with a bright note from the gooseberries

Split with JLindros.
A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice crystal clear mahogany with a thin head.
S - Aromas of spoiled tartness and berries along with some rotten milk. Flashes of barrel.
T - Taste is similar to the nose with loads of tart berries followed by rotten milk. Ultra infected.
M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, slick.
O - Overall this was a very underwhelming beer. These ba Christmas beers are awful.

Little bubbly head, thick legs, dark mahogany ruby reddish-brown color
Nose is the epitome of sadness in a bottle, acetic acid and cooked vinegar, very acidic and tart, fruity too, a touch of oak at best,
Taste is a bit better, sweet candy, caramel and candy notes, a little tart fruit, sour notes with more acidty and a touch of vinegar, likely infection, tart berry, little slimy and flemmy acidity, cranberry tartness,
Mouth is med bod, decent carb fizzy, a little alcohol
Overall eh, not terrible but not good or enjoyable and obviously infected

The Bruery recently had a vintage sale and this one was under fire with rumors of infection which made me realize I never drank one of the bottles I bought when it was originally released.
750ml into a snifter appears clear mahogany in color with a khaki cap.
Aroma contains a fruity and tart smelling addition of something akin to cranberry or currant with a solid backing of oak and bourbony booziness.
Taste includes more of that cranberry/currant fruitiness that is somewhat tart before bourbon warmth comes into play with oak spiciniess and slight bitterness.
This is medium in body with modest carbonation. The label of this brew says it is tart from the addition of cape gooseberries, ive never had a gooseberry but to me, it felt very similar to cranberry or currants. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this and it really has a holiday feel about it that is somewhat lacking in the other Bruery christmas beers.

Mostly clear brown copper body with a small collar. Aromas of oak, booze, cherry, citrus, vanilla. Sweet and boozy, with tart gooseberry character emerging mid palate. Tannic and oaky finish with mild astringency. Like many Bruery beers, best shared with a dozen people.

Better than 5 golden rings barrel aged. Which I had drank last night. Solid showing here. There are so many good barrel aged beers to choose from these days that it is had to remember each one unless it is truely remarkable. I feel like I will not remember this.
