This beer pours out a nice golden color.

Not much of a nose to it. Slight citrus and a sence of the hops.

The taste is nice and comes off really hopped out. Some pine and citrus notes flow with the hops and the finish is nice and smooth. One of the better single ipas that you'll find on Long Island.

I really hope these guys start to offer some bottle/can forms of their brews soon.

On draft at The Lark, East Northport, NY.

Poured a medium brass hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured predominantly piney hops with a round sweetness.

The taste consisted of an upfront spicy pine punch with a supporting grainy sweetness and some faint butterscotch. There was a considerable residual hop spice noted. The malts were a bit thin however.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style with a lingering piney spice.

Overall a tasty hop bomb. Could use a bit more bulk however.

On tap at the Lark in East Northport, NY: pours hazy copper color with a creamy 1 finger tan head that faded and left a creamy oil slick-like layer on top and layers as it went down.

Smells of big hops up front with the aroma hitting my nose from a few inches away, with a mix of citrus hops, grapefruit, papaya, orange peel, pineapple, floral hops, herbs, piney hops, caramel, light spices and a sweetness like brown sugar; very hoppy nose that remains juicy and fresh smelling throughout, but has very little balance which is fine for me as I love a fine smelling hoppy IPA.

Tastes very hoppy, with citrus hops, grapefruit, papaya, orange peel, pineapple, lemon, floral hops, herbs, piney hops, caramel, lightly toasted grains, buttery crackers, sweet malt, mint, tea leaf, light spices like pepper, cinnamon and coriander, and a sweetness like brown sugar or syrup towards the end; light bitterness, which is surprising based on the big hop flavor.

Mouthfeel is creamy and oily slick, with a medium body, average carbonation and a slight bitter finish. This beer completely hides the ABV and is on the sweet side, but still pretty good overall.

A- a golden orange hue with two inches of white foam and a scattering of thin lace.

S- grapefruit and pine mostly, a tiny malt presence brings out some doughy quality.

T- Sweet citrus juice and bitter peel, the finish is pine and some lemon, with a bready malt faintly in the background.

O- A very solid ipa here, and it is great on tap. I had it side by side with another ipa and Massive didn't hold up because of a thinner mouthfeel and less pronounced flavors. But don't get me wrong, it is a solid ipa.

Pours a deep golden color with a brownish hue. The head is dense with good retention, settles into a chunky ring with some lacing on the glass.

The aroma is of a sweet bready malt with some brown sugar and honey notes. Not a sickly sweet aroma, which is nice. The hop aroma brings some grapefruit and orange notes. A touch of pine. Not a strong hop aroma but it is a nice profile.

The taste has more of a piney hop flavor with some grassy notes. Not much citrus or floral notes. The malt is bready and sweet, good base for a hoppy brew. Its a good bitter profile but not so much on the hoppy flavor.

Moderate body with tingly carbonation. Lightly bitter on the palate due to the good balance from the malt. Finishes with a slightly dry hop bitterness.

Well made IPA just not quite flavorful enough for my liking.

Served unto a pint.

Appearance: golden amber, head was roughly 3/4" off the body.

Smell: slight floral, but comes off light.

Taste: amazingly complex, floral, piney, caramelly...absolutely no complaints in this department.

Mouth: medium to heavy, smoother than a stick of butter.

Overall: you know what, I want to buy a case of this, this is a great everyday IPA, only thing missing is a football game and a cigar.

Beer name/Brewer: Massive IPA Great South Bay Brewing, L.I. N.Y.

Serving info: Growler filled on Long Island

Pours: typical darker honey amber, chill haze

Lacing: Very fine and quality looking lace, leaves ample tiny bits around the glass

Head: moderate head development, staying a short while, before going to a nice looking tiny bubble film and slight collar

Sniff: Bready malt/resiny hopped up nose

Body: Full bodied and quite smooth, adding to the continued theme here of quality and enjoy ability

Flavor notes: Tasty IPA, grapefruit and resiny hops doing the heavy lifting. Ample malt under carriage adds to the package. Quite worthy creation, hopefully expanded NY area distribution will get this one more out there and into the hearts, minds and bellys of the BA community. In the mean time, its well worth giving this one a try..

Served on draft into a pint glass.

Appears golden or light brown. Slight head that remains intact.

Smells buttery and slightly hoppy.

Tastes ok but not hoppy enough. Expected a little more

Mouthfeel is nice. Fresh up front with a slight bitter finish.

Crazy hops on deck with a sick ABV. Definitely hits you good after you finish a Growler like I just did. But yeah, solid golden appearance with a hoppy taste. Somewhat bitter aftertaste but the hops hide the ABV pretty good. It's pretty drinkable if you don't mind the bitter aftertaste. Taste some heavy citrus that adds to the drinkability, at least for me it does. Strong Island breweries FTW. Not crazy for it, as I've had hoppier tastier brews but they did a damn good job for a small local brewery. Great beer to have with food and I will most definitely be having it again due to availability in my area.

Tried from a sample at Beer City in North Babylon, NY
A - Orange with a little foam.

S - Notes of pine, citrus, and of course, hops.

T - Crisp, with some sweetness that gives to a hopy finish.

M - Enjoyed this one. Refreshing, and with a raspy finish.

D - This is a solid drinker. Nice brew to watch the time go by.

Have had this many times on tap. Nice pale gold color with lots of fluffy head and lacing. Smells of piney resin and almost sour grapefruit. Tastes of resin and grapefruit, citrus really comes through. Dry hops has some bite but adds some sweetness. dry hoppy mouthfeel and some might find it sticky. Can be drunk, but as for me, i'm drinking stouts now, I'll re-visit this iPA in the spring.

A - Gold color, nice carbonation, big frothy white head that leaves a lot of lacing.

S - Lots of resinous smelling hops, citrus and pine. Slighty sweet malt aroma.

T - Citrus from the hops comes through first with a touch of pine, followed by a simple but nice malt backbone. Tastes like a lot of 2-row with some very light crystal malt that gives the beer a sweetness.

M - A little less attenuated than most American IPA with a moderate mouthfeel, but not unpleasant.

D - Lots of hop flavors balanced by some nice malt flavors makes this an easy drinking IPA. Does not kill you with bitterness on the finish, great job by a new comer.

Reviewed from notes.

Pours a moderate golden color. Slightly dark with a white head and a bit of lacing. Nose is some citrus hops with some orange and grapefruit rind. Pretty good. The taste is a bit more malty without too much of a hop presence, although there is some light citrus there. Light to medium body with slight bitterness. Drinkability is pretty good as this doesn't stray too far in any one direction, but this is also what keeps the flavor a bit plain.

After pouring this dark golden IPA into my merlot glass to observe its interesting features, I noted the strong aroma of a grapefruit type of hops and swirling unique malt characters I noted later in the taste. The first taste was a vocabulary lesson in hops and as I slowly tasted more of it, the spicy taste seemed to change its personality to illicit more fruity esters which I would usually attribute to heavier double IPA names.

Like a circus bear riding a small bicycle, the Massive IPA packed a large taste that did various tricks as its slowly warmed up in my glass. I was impressed with its volume and weight as I thought it paired well with sharp cheddar cheese and would make a good beer to tailgate with in the company of good friends.
