My final beer on my first visit to the Block was the one most worth waiting for. Block 15 intends to offer a variety of Belgian influenced ales throughout the year. This one is presumably a dubbel, and if my notes serve me well, it comes in at 8.7% ABV.
My Trubbled Monk arrived in a large snifter with an engorged head emitting a charmed and focused aroma of classic Belgian design. The aroma is piquant and spiced with sharp esters and a dash of pepper. The head retreats to a creamy carpet trailing all the lace you might expect of the style. Belgian character is at first a bit overplayed and sharply contoured. But as the beer warms, its temperament relaxes, grows more agreeable, and the beer's overall drinkability improves significantly.
This dense, oak-colored ale stands out among other B-15 beers as far more assertive and bold. It is a very credible tribute beer and would likely hold up well in a blind tasting among others of its kind.
