A blend of strong Belgian style witbiers matured in French Oak barrels with locally grown black cap raspberries. We open fermented the beer with our house blend of Belgian yeast, brettanomyces, and lactobacillus. Mysteriously purple black in color with rich jammy fruits, supporting body, and a balanced sour finish. The bottle limits are low as we lost half our the barrels to flooding this past spring.

On tap at Beermongers.
A very dark red with a purple head, this looks good. The nose is loaded with black raspberries, jammy, earthy, sweet and fruity, mildly dusty. The base beer is sour but nondescript. The palate opens with a rich, fruity black raspberry character, juicy, earthy, delicious. This is followed by a prominent sourness, lactic and snappy. Alcohol is well hidden. Sour, fruity on the finish. Tasty but relatively unrefined.

Beautiful burgundy color, good clarity, and a small pink hued foam that quickly dissipates.
Aroma and flavor dominantly cranberry and raspberry juices.
Tart and crisp with a little sweetness. Easy to drink.
Another winner from Block 15. Cheers

Bottle share from Rich. Dark and fruity, berries rule the aroma and taste. Reminds me of jelly. Hint of tartness tops off the whole schmeer. One of the better sours I’ve had.

Reviewing Framboise Black, a blend of soured Belgian-style witbiers aged in French oak barrels with black cap raspberries from the Block 15 Brewery & Restaurant out of Corvallis, Oregon.

2014 vintage bottle served in a Revolution Brewing tulip/snifter and enjoyed on 03/01/15. Thank you Danny for sending me this brew!
Appearance: Pours a deep purple color, like grape juice, with a finger of pinkish purple head off the pour that totally settles. Swirling the brew tints the glass slightly purple nicely. The color on this brew is quite interesting. 5/5
Smell: Raspberry jelly and cloves, with a hint of black pepper. 4.75/5
Taste: Raspberry and grape jelly with a little coriander/clove on the finish. Surprisingly simplistic, but tasty as hell. Long lasting flavors. 4.75/5
Mouthfeel: Thin bodied, appropriately carbonated. Mild acidity, a little sweet, not too sour. 4.25/5
Overall: One of my favorite Block 15 brews -- it tastes like fruit jelly! It is a shame that a good portion of this batch was lost to a flood. Great job on this one Nick!
Cost: $15 for a 375 ml bottle.

375 mL bottle poured into a snifter.
Appearance - Beautiful. Dark purple and pink. Light pink head with good retention.
Smell - Doesn't smell like much. Raspberries. Kinda creamy. Not very acidic.
Taste - Has a ton more raspberries than I got in the nose. Not a ton of sourness, but it does have a lot of dark raspberry flavor. Still has a creamy component, but more sour, especially in the back end.
Mouthfeel - High carbonation. Medium body.
Overall - I expected a ton more fruit, Good beer, but not as intense as advertised.
