This has caramel, toasted almonds, and cocoa nibs in the regular year round altbier.

Sampled 4/2/2011 at the brewpub.

Pours clear but flat red/brown, no head, no lacing, but some bubbles coming out of solution.

Aroma is candy, nuts, white grape, and chocolate. While its not the greatest aroma in the world I find it amazing that you can pick out all the ingredients (minus the grape, which is just the yeast) just in the nose.

Flavor is sweet and candy like for sure. The almond and caramel flavor is pretty intense with the chocolate and the maltiness more in the background. All that covers up the alt. This beer is all about the spices/added flavorings.

Body is medium and this is drinkable and enjoyable.

On cask at Hangar 24

A: Pours a dark amber color with a minimal off-white head.

S: I was surprised by how easily I could pick out the different additives. The almonds give a very faint nutty note and sweetness, while the caramel and chocolate notes are quite apparent. The slight grape flavor of the Alt still comes through, as does some bread.

T: Sweet caramel and chocolate with plenty of toffee and bread. A mild to moderate nutty quality. Quite sweet overall and not much, if any, of the base Altbier is really left.

M: Medium in body with a fairly low level of carbonation from the cask.

O: If all altbiers tasted like candy bars, I'd probably be more inclined to drink them.
