Pours a hazy honey gold with a nice fluffy cream colored head, about 2 and a half fingers high. Decent retention and lots of messy uneven lacing left on the glass.
Quite muted but pleasant. Citrus and pine, herbal dankness with some wet forest floor and vegetative aromas. A lot of centennial and citra in the nose. Honey malt breaks through enough to blend with the orange peel to liven it up a bit.
Honey malts are relatively in balance with the hops and do a good job keeping the sweetness down. Pine and citrus hop presence that keeps in step with the nose. Some herbal notes here and there. Quite a bit of alcohol in the finish along with decent bitterness that is long lasting.
Solid carbonation complements a heavier body touched up by the yeast. Doesn't dry well at all and the alcohol sticks around with the bitterness. Gets very tiring by the end of the bottle.
A decent DIPA that reminds me quite a bit of palate wrecker that turns down the bitterness a couple of notches. All sorts of hops here with adequate malt but the high alcohol presence and the heavier body do this no favors towards drinkability.

22oz bottle from j47paco (thanks Juan, great extra!). No bottling info. Served in a Founders snifter.
Pours a bright clear yellow with almost two fingers near white head that leaves an abundance of lace.
Smells include pine, wet grass and mild tropical fruit.
Taste is mostly piney hops with fresh cut grass, pepper, grapefruit rind, sugary sweetness (the honey, maybe?), bicuity malt and a little orange. It goes down quite smoothly for 9%.
Oily medium feel with moderately sharp carbonation. Long clinging bitter hoppy aftertaste.
A nice overall double IPA. It's far from my favorite (one double IPA brewed with honey in particular comes to mind) but I enjoyed every last drop and wouldn't turn up my nose at another.

Pours super pale, especially for a DIPA. Almost like a Pils. Very clear. Dense, rocky head settles at about a finger and retains well. Not much lacing to speak of. Aroma is piney, floral, nectary. No question about the hoppiness of this beer, although it's more floral than most hop forward beers. Malt isn't hard to find either. Biscuity with some honey. Somewhat spicy with a swirl. Light biscuit malt flavor starts things off, but is soon taken over by the hop flavor. Piney, resinous, vinous, like a bitter weed. The bitterness is intense and lasts a good while at the back of the tongue. Balanced feel, dry finish.
The appearance was the big difference with this beer. I couldn't believe how clear and light it looked. The aroma is very different from the flavor, in that it's balanced in the aroma, but it's extremely bitter on the tongue. Although I'd call the taste a bit of a one note disappointment, I still like this beer and would get it again.

Pours murky orange gold. Yellow highlights are present. The smallish off white head leaves behind tons of lacing.
Smell is grapefruit, tangy, citrusy. There is a hint of the malt, flowers and booze.
Taste is juicy, tropical. Clean and powerful. Finished with a pithy bitterness.
The brew is perfectly carbonated, almost light and easy, yet powerful. A clean crisp finish makes me want more.
Easily the the DIPA I have tried since PtE. Bitter, juicy, easy to drink. A great punch in the face. I will definitely be getting more.

Tulip
A - Bright California orange sunset, one finger slightly off white head and some sticky lacing
S - Very sweet, tropical fruits and flowers, slight resin, pine, tons of citrus, a slightly toasted malt nose and a slightly sweet yeast note
T - Wow, this is great, fresh and refreshing! Nice sweet up front, citrus, tropical/island fruits and flowers, weed, crisp water, very nice pine, roasted malts on the back bone and more sweet.
M - Medium bodied, well balanced, nice complexity, medium minus acidity and nice refreshingly medium plus finsih
D/O - Really nice, refreshing CA DIPA/Imperial IPA. For the hop head, give this one a try. I saw the rating and reviews, what were they reviewing? This isn't the Columbus IPA or the single hopped DIPA. It has great hop, a nice malt and very sweet and sticky
Final Thought - $6 a pop, 9% abv and very tasty and refreshing! I need to pick up a few more! Loves it!

Thanks to breaks808 for hooking me up with this one. Cheers!
Medium orange, slightly hazy with a one finger head that leaves light lacing. Pretty good head retention for the abv.
The aroma is very light and only when the beer gets to be pretty warm does it release some pineapple. Juicy citrus flavor that is quickly overtaken by an aggressive bitterness. Very peppery and sharp. The components of a nice dipa are there, but they seem to get in each others way.
Medium mouthfeel with good carbonation. Nice body for the 9% abv.
Some potential here, but I think this brew needs some tweaking to keep up with the tough competition in this area.

Pours a clear gold with nice white head and lacing.
The smell is of citrus, caramel, and toast.
The taste is a little sweet with a big burnt caramel and orange peel bitterness. Maltier than I expected but I can't believe how well it works in the favor of this one as I usually don't care for that style.
Heavy on the caramel malts for sure but it balances the hops so well. Medium mouth feel and goes down so well. Easy drinking so make sure to grab two. I couldn't find any dating though which I could be blind or it could just be a negative.

On-tap at the brewery.
A: A darker gold with an almost two finger head and curtain lacing that drips off quickly and leaves a thin ring of foam on the glass.
S: Unexpectedly, lots of dank, especially noticable on slightly more distanced whiffs. A little tropical fruit/tangerine sweetness in the background and even a sense of citrus tree leaf.
T: A tangerine/tropical fruit infused slightly sweetened hop hit that quickly mellows out into a mildly sweeter, more citrus-pulp version and finally peaks with a hop/citrus spritz bitterness pop and fades out. The flavors here are really pretty good and the sweetness and bitterness are both really well handeled. My big complaint though as that it's kind of a sound and fury signifying nothing. Drinking this is kind of similar to sliding down a slide. Starts out sort of exciting and then you come down and that's it.
M: A little oily with a medium body and light-medium carbonation, some citrus bitterness tingles on the tongue after the drink.
O: This is honestly probably the best beer I've ever had from hangar 24, but it still frustrates me so much for many of the reasons other hangar 24 beers do. It's as though they feel they have to make every single one of their beers chuggable. The body, the carbonation on all of their beers never goes above medium and the tastes, while often good, are so short-lived and lose so much punch so quickly that the best way to enjoy them is to not stop drinking. Hangar 24 has a way of taking microbrew flavors and packaging them in a way that is becoming to beer-pong. I'd recommend giving this DIPA a shot if you encounter it because like I mentioned before, some great flavor here, but if you're looking for a real hidden gem I'd still say this has some work to go.

Picked up two bottles from the brewery...
Poured from a bomber into a Bruery snifter...
A - Pours a darker orange with a one finger off white head. Head retention is decent, and there is a good amount of sticky lacing to be had...
S - Lots of citrus notes. Tangerines and grapefruit with some sweet malt in the mix...
T - Grapefruit, oranges and some tangerine. Malt comes through and balances this one out nicely with a little pine in the finish...
M - Super smooth. Medium bodied with a lower amount of carboantion...
O - If you're looking for a hop bomb, look elsewhere. This one is very well balanced, and drinks really smooth. Definitely something I will be buying again in the near future...
Cheers...

Picked this up at the brewery a few days ago. Poured from a swing top growler into my Hangar 24 tulip. A careful pour (due to the funky swing top contraption) results in a vigorous inch and a half of foam which subsides to a decent ring and nice lacing. The beer is an opaque orange, amber color, what I'd expect from a beer of this style. The nose hits me immediately. A citrus bomb for sure. Orange, tangerine, mango and guava. The beer smells juicy! Taste follows the nose, citrus fruit abounds, backed by a sweet malt presence. Bittering hops enter mid palate but are balanced by a strong malt backbone. Finish is juicy and bitter. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy with a medium level of carbonation that works well here. Drinkability is good given the refreshing taste of this beer and the completely hidden alcohol content. Really enjoying this one. Well done Hangar 24!

Stopped in to hangar in a drive through Redlands. My brother and I figured we might as well stop in.
Noted dated July 24th 2011.
Servings were all in plastic cups.
A: Sunshine in a glass, light morning rays with microfiber bubble foams. Finger and a half head with a weaker pour. Surprisingly crystal clear appearance for the style. I'm getting mixed signals in the visual, but it doesn't look bad at all. Wish I had a real glass so that I could get a better feel for the head retention/lacing. Beggars can't be choosers.
S: Nice floral citrus in the nose that comes off more like orange blossom than anything. Some welcomed balanced sweetness in the nose. Authentically fresh ingredients give into orange infuses caramels. Nice and soft on the nose with clean whiffs.
T: I have to admit I got a funky nori taste that dominated the introduction. Light floral notes that avoid medicinal notes rather well. Bitter mellow citrus rinds that have been scraped clean of their zest (sadly). The hops do a nice number on the fading rinds by blending with them for an unexpectedly fresh linger.
M: Soft spoken mouth that is light with a fairly drying finish. Water deludes honeys to leave a semi-glazed mouth. The coating and viscosity of the liquid makes for a pleasant feel, but the body still feels too light. This might be more reasonable for a single IPA, but as a double this falls short.
O: When it comes to hangar beers, I think this is probably my favorite. While I haven't been the biggest fan of their beers, I think this is a very drinkable offering in style. I'd definitely say it's one of hangers better beers where they maintain their easy-to-drink manifesto in reasonable balance with a flavor profile. I think far too often their beers are brewed with lightness in mind, and it can intrude a bit too much on the style. This actually has some good flavors, and just because the mouth isn't chewy doesn't mean it can't be a good DIPA. I'd say this would be a good beer to start off someone new to the style with. It's not going to give them as raw of an experience as many other offerings, but it certainly doesn't have its training wheels too low to the ground.

Pours a pretty hazy sunset orange with a creamy 3 fingers of fluffy white head. A finger of cap stayed through the duration of drinking this beer. Nose starts with rich malt and a bit of alcohol esters followed by mandarin, citrus pith and a touch of watermelon rind. The taste is bright orange citrus, some light watermelon flesh, fresh pine needles and malt. The finish is drying, shows a bit of alcohol and has a big bite of hoppy bitterness. Oddly, i really get no honey from this beer, possibly fermented out. Minus the finish and a bit of the smell this is a great big ipa and something i would drink again regardless.

22 oz bomber pours a medium amber with fluffy white head and great lacing. Aroma is lemon, orange, and cotton candy. Taste is bitter piney hops with grapefruit and subtle honey. Malt is borderline oversweet, 9% alcohol is well hidden. Mouthfeel is good and thick but harsh on the finish. This is a very good DIPA which I think could be great if the harsh finish were toned down.

App: Eggshell colored rocky head. Nice lacing, great head retention. Slightly hazy apricot in color.
Nose: Lemon zest, citrus, green fresh hops, pine.
Taste: Grapefruit, citrus, sweet and a little syrupy, light carbonation.
Notes: A very nice example of what a California double ipa can be. Strong, balanced, big, and interesting.

Taste - Hops on the front and ride hard, but on the backswing, it really pulls back and the sweeter, citrusy-honey notes come forward. They said they used orange-blossom honey, and it does show up on the finish.
Overall - Impressive. The Double IPA, to me, isn't really THAT much different than a regular IPA...but in this category, I do say this is now the top beer I like. The sweet aftertaste really does wonders for enjoying the beer for me, and because its a honey-taste, it works with the citrusy notes of the hops.
Enjoy in moderation, because the taste does not indicate a 9.00% ABV.

Wow, I feel like maybe I am drinking a different beer than everyone else on here. I found this beer to be pretty fantastic. Good spicy aroma, great white foam head. Citrusy, hoppy taste. Severe bitterness in a good way that stays on the tongue just long enough. Refreshing, yet dry. Overall, I found this beer to be way better than expected after reading reviews.

Straight out of the bottle I could see the color was a little lighter than most IIPA's I drink. Pretty decent head when poured into a pilsner glass, but not followed up by much carbonation. Pretty light and easy to drink for 9%, but as far as taste I wasn't really impressed. Plenty of hops in there, but not picking up much citrus. What citrus you do taste is pretty muted. Pretty light mouthfeel. Leaves a slight film that you taste for a while. This beer really isn't anything special and I wouldn't purchase again since there are soooo many other IIPA's in the world.

Three finger sized off white head. Lacing all over the glass, very hazy, and a murky yellow body.
Pineapple, pine, orange, grapefruit, sweet malts, and a light floral aroma. The Simcoe is a giving off a very strong presence here.
Sweet pine flavor, citrus fruits, pineapple, orange/lemon zest, and pine. Nice dry finish with a mild lingering hop bitterness. Some spice on the palate as well, which to me is a negative aspect here. I do enjoy hop and yeast spice but this feels slightly out of place. Medium body with a touch of sweetness that seems to be more from the malts than the honey. The honey might be smoothing out some aspects but overall it doesn't seem to be a huge factor.
A pretty standard DIPA, but well executed. Nothing here that is gonna blow your mind, but certainly this is an enjoyable beer. No complaints, but I can think of plenty of other DIPA's I would pick over this one.

On tap at Hanger 24.
A - Clear, dark gold with a bit of hop oil on top. The head was thick but dissipated fairly quickly.
S - Unsurprisingly, lots of citrus and pine on the nose. The pint I had didn't scream dry hop so I was a bit underwhelmed.
T - Drinkable, and much more of an east coast DIPA than something from the IE. Much more balanced and I really liked the malt backbone behind this one.
M - Like other H24 beers, a bit thin on the mouthfeel. Decent carbonation (medium to high) made up for it, but I can't help but shake the feeling that it tastes watered down.
O - A solid DIPA, but with beers like Pliny or Knuckle Sandwich readily available I'd probably choose those over this one again.

I think this beer gets lost in all the hype surrounding all the other west coast offerings. There is another DIPA that uses honey that gets all the love here. But you know what ? Fuck the hype machine, this is a damn fine DIPA. The color is burnt orange with a nice cap that leaves nice lacing as I drink down. The nose is a mix of tropical fruits, a little sweet pollen and some pine. The flavor profile is similar, nice tangerine, bitter grapefruits, and that lovely little touch of honey. The mouth is balanced without being to oily due to the honey and density of the brew. This beer deserves more love here and I'm going to give it up.

A - Lighter in color than the IPA offering, medium amber, golden amber color - like one would expect from an adjunct in a way - light orange color at the darkest...
S - Sweeter citrus nose than that of the IPA offering - less piney, and more of a mild scent
T - Sweet, light honey, initial piney hop biter with definite grapefruit taste and citrus hops with a little bit of that grapefruit hop bitter finish
M - Really light, less carbonation than that of the IPA offering, lingering light bitterness on the finish - less in your face than the IPA
D - Mild DIPA, much more citrus and less pine, which I typically prefer, this just didn't do it altogether - girlfriend's not a fan of DIPA's as much and she chose the DIPA over the IPA stating it was sweeter and less bitter than grabbing the IPA...

Poured into a Hangar 24 pint glass at Steingarten LA. Orange color with an ample white head that holds on. The aroma is a mix of citrus, tropical, with some cotton candy thrown in as well as some fresh bread notes. The taste follows this theme- this is one highly drinkable brew with only a slight bitter character. Orange Blossom Honey is used in the recipe to give the malt backbone a gentle push in the sweet direction. Citra, Simcoe, Columbus, and Centennial hops are used, making the beer quite aromatic and floral.
This beer will start making appearances in bottles soon. That's good news for beer fans and another great addition to the Southern California IPA style.
