I’m not a hefe hater. Now that I’ve had several that are simply amazing I know just why people who love the style are so enthusiastic about it. It’s a shame that so much that’s available these days is just subpar tho. While I was not ‘wowed’ by Hanger 24’s take on the wheat beer neither was it a disappointment. I’d be perfectly happy drinking this at a party or on a hot summer day. It pours a cloudy orange color. Foamy! It has a nice note of coriander on the nose. Clear orange-wheat character with a light tartness and a clean finish. One of the better ones.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Stone Ruination IPA pint glass
From: VONS in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $13.97 (with VONS card) for a variety 12-pack
Purchased: June 1, 2013
Consumed: June 1, 2013
Misc.: N/A

Poured a yellow orange straw color with two fingers of bubbly white head. Minimal lacing on the sides of the glass. Below average retention on the top on the way down.

Smelled orange, orange rind, lemon wheat, grass, honey, cereal and faint hay. Reminded me of a lemon shandy.

Tasted pretty much like I expected it. Orange, orange rind, lemon, honey, wheat, grass and cereal. Not as much like a shandy as the smell.

Light body. Thin-to-oily texture. Lively carbonation. Abrupt finish. Clean, crisp and refreshing.

Pretty much what I expected overall. Good for the summer, but probably wouldn’t have it any other time.

One of my friends give me this beer. He said he bought t cosco. It was free and glad it was.

A pperanrace- Orange and very hazy. A white head stuck around for a few seconds though.

Smells: Yeast and fruit

Taste - Like soup with some citrus in it. No balance . I thought I was experience my first grade teacher give me the soup treatment after couple of bad words. No thanks on this beer! This beer is notin the same world as blue moon or same universe as an average German beer.

Moutfeel - It was a light bodied with no carbomation

Overall: II taste like soppy to me. with some orange added to it.

Thanks to OKComputer for this one. Poured into nonic. Poured a cloudy dull gold color with about 1/2 inch of white head that had good retention and no lace.

The aroma was a soft and light wheat scent, no yeast notes picked up, and a just noticeable and mellow orange scent. On the tongue, all the soft and subdued notes were apparent again, the at the front and the orange having the back end, but overall, the beer was pretty well balanced.

The body was good, smooth, and even, with a semi-dry finish. Drinkability was good, 12oz disappeared quickly. Overall, a pleasant enough brew, one I'd have again if local to me. Worth trying if you see it.

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.5

Appearance - Pours a hazy, pale orange with a white, half finger head. Sub-par retention. Leaves a near smooth surface, with bubbles clinging around the edge of the glass. Spotty lacing, with little stick.

Smell - Simple but fair aroma of wheat and watered down orange juice.

Taste - Follows the nose. Moderate wheaty flavor backed by a mild orange juice character. A hint of spice. Faint mint on the finish. Simple, straight forward flavor profile.

Mouthfeel - Light in body with crisp carbonation. Clean, smooth finish.

Overall - Definitely a summertime beer. Light and refreshing. If I were looking for something to drink in the sun, though, this wouldn't beer my first choice. Not enough meat on this bone, so to speak.

look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance: Looks like effervescent orange juice when held up to the light. Not a lot of foam, very good lacing.

Smell: Grainy malts and (surprise!) citrus hops.

Taste: Grassy/grainy malts and orange, like a good Hefeweizen with an extra citrus kick.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, smooth, and refreshing.

The Verdict: Very good. Well balanced and tasty, this is what Shock Top could taste like if it wasn’t made by a big conglomerate. Can’t wait to down a few of these when the heat of summer kicks in.

The Beers of California

#76

Bottle Date: None

A: Hazy pale golden with a white, micro bubble head of foam. The bubbles leave a rim and a trace lace on the glass. There is a trace amount of lace on the rim and the glass.

S: Strong lemon and orange zest which floats on top of a honey wheat base.

T: Honey and orange juice sweetness ushers in moments of wheat and cracker maltiness. There are hints of clove and black pepper spice. The finish is clean and earthy. Simple, sweet and well executed.

M: Light feel and somewhat chewy. Could have used a bit more carbonation to add to the brew's lightness and brightness.

O: A sweet wheat ale and a refreshing session brew for hot summer days. Picked this up to celebrate the start of spring, which is really the start of Southern California's Summer.

12oz Bottle from Trader Joe's Palm Desert CA for 2$

Appearance - Hazy yellow colour with a large size fizzy white coloured head. It's hard to make out the amount of carbonation showing and there is not much lacing. The head lasted for 3-4 minutes.

Smell - Breads/grains, lemons/oranges

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste bread/grains mixed with some lemons/oranges. There is also a bit of a spiciness from the citrus zest perhaps. It ends with bready/orange aftertaste.

Overall - A beer style that is rarely reviewed highly. It's better than average but won't wow anyone. It's refreshing and a nice change of pace beer. I wouldn't buy it again, but glad I tried.
