Served in a snifter, this beer was a dark garnet color. It had a small light tan head with a smidge of lace.
Nice aroma: caramel, booze, charcoal.
Same with the taste. Caramel and peat mostly. Booze noticeable, but in a pleasant way.
Not that heavy, easily drinkable.
Great winter beer.

Now I must say I am a huge fan of Marshall Wharf, so I don't think I've had a brew from them that I didn't think was amazing
had @ When Pigs Fly in Kittery, ME.
Poured a gnarly brownish red HUE with barely any head. I wanted more head, just saying.
Little booze that can be detected on the nose. little bit of caramel candied maltiness. very pleasant. Smells like I wanna pound this sucker!
Moving on,
Taste was the most bad ass part of this brew. I think the bourbon notes are just perfect on this brew, not too over powering but play a key role. I bet they accomplished this by the blending. Again Malty sweetness in the middle. Touch of earthiness and herbal notes kicking around.
Medium to heavy mouthfeel.
OVERALL ANOTHER BAD ASS OFFERING FROM MARSHALL WHARf. probs for making a super drinkable scotch ale. Not too strong but not weak by any means. CAN THIS PLEASE

Poured from a growler into a tumbler pint, the beer is a bright, caramel coloring that is clear and bubbly, with a frothy, white, light head that clings to the glass. Aromas of roasted wood, peat, char, smoke, and scotch. Very earthy and woody. Flavors of rich, darkly sweet caramel, smokey campfires, and a touch of booze. Very blended and balanced, with an earthy undertone throughout. Aftertaste of roast and toast, with earthy undertones throughout. Very smooth, rich finish. Tremendous brew! Those barrels were worth the trip!

First had: on tap at Three Tides, Belfast, ME
Brewed with peat-smoked malts. Poured a slightly hazy brown with reddish highlights, and just a thin layer of bubbles on top. Roasty malts and dark sugars in the aroma. Phenolic and bit boozy to the taste, but mellows out with roasty malts; very earthy and organic, raw sugar, and a tad of molasses. Heavy-medium mouthfeel, and a bit syrupy. Tasty, and not as strong as most Scotch ales, boosting its drinkability a bit.

Filled on 11/22 at the brewery.
Ruby brown in color with very little life with an agressive pour. No lacing...no head whatsoever.
Very nice in the nose...peat, candied sugar, maple syrup.
Taste is well received...first sips display a bit of phenols, but this flavor fades after just a few swigs and the peat flavor shines thru. Well hopped, as the bitterness allows this beer to become too sweet....mostly english bitter w/ a hint of fig and cherries.
Mouthfeel is a bit thin when compared to others in the style, but each snifter goes down easy and the alcohol is well hidden.
Very nice offering in one of my favorite styles.
