The Brown Ale style originated in the pubs of England, where beer drinkers desired a beer that was both flavorful and complex, but at the same time mild enough to be a session beer. The Santa Fe Brewing Company's interpretation of this style uses a combination of high mash temperature, hard water, and low-alpha acid hops to produce a product that is both true to the style and distinctly Santa Fe. Brewing jargon aside, Santa Fe Nut Brown Ale is an easy-drinking beer, mild, smooth, and always a favorite.

Appearance: Hazy deep mahogany with a moderate, quite persistent off-white head, thick glass-coating lace, and moderate carbonation.
Aroma: Deep aroma of bitter chocolate and nuts, a faint note of vanilla, and a slight herbal hop presence.
Taste: Opens with a nutty, bitter chocolate note, which carries throughout the taste. Beneath the malt there is a faint herbal hop presence, at once just ghostly, but at the end of the taste more prominent. The finish is fairly dry.
Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, full, and pleasant.
Drinkability/notes: A quite wonderful English Brown Ale, quite drinkable.
Presentation: Packaged in a twelve-ounce brown glass bottle with a pop-off crown, served in a standard pint tap glass.

Poured from a 12oz can best by 7-7-22 hard into a nonic pint.
On the pour a big fluffy 3-4 finger head forms which dissipates to a 3mm covering over a couple minutes after the hard pour there is relatively light carbonation.
The aroma is largely sweet and nutty malts with some bright citrusy American hops underneath the malts and fermentation profile. Nice British style aroma with a slight American twist. Mostly a sweet malty smell.
Flavor follows the aroma quite closely with a slight hop bitterness but nothing overpowering. The malts are present throughout the whole thing and drive most of the flavor with nutty and dark dry fruity notes. The malts amd ale yeast mingle nicely for a sweet slightly bitter but smooth flavor.
Feel is easy drinking and not too heavy or filling but with a nice creaminess. Not a lot of co2 bite but it seems to fit the style a good year round beer and nice for meals.
Overall a nutty brown ale that provides what it promises. Much better when poured in a glass, from the can The malts don't shine, pour this one for sure. It is definitely a nut brown ale. Good with the American hops but still has English vibes.

From old, undated notes. Poured from the bottle.
Brown hue; lots of purple when held to the light.
Off-white head; nice lacing.
Maple syrup, brown sugar & roasted walnut nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Sadly the flavor is more muted than the bold nose: mild brown sugar with a slight hop finish.
Fine for a fall afternoon, but not a home-run.

Poured into a becher pint. Ruby Brown, mild ring of beige head.
Malty sweet and mild booze aroma. Taste follows with very mild nut bitter. Smooth, not very dry.
A pretty straightforward brown, with crushability potential. Not particularly unique, but if you like brown ale in general, you'll enjoy.

My very good friend Jon Passow sent this a can of this to me in a birthday beer package, as I had my birthday a few weeks ago. Poured into one of my pint glasses , this beer pours a clear, dark copper/light brown color with a slightly tan/off-white, fluffy head that's initially well over an inch thick when first poured. Settles eventually to a solid 1/3 of an inch thick with excellent lacing and good retention. Aromas of slightly roasted, bready caramel malts along with roasted nuts and a hint of chocolate followed by some earthy hops. The taste is pretty much the same, with somewhat roasted, bready caramel and chocolate malt sweetness along with some roasted nuttiness and a nice earthy hop presence that adds just the right amount of bitterness to give this beer some balance. Has a slight crisp, mainly smooth and frothy, medium bodied mouthfeel with light to moderate carbonation. Has a clean finish and slightly dry aftertaste. A good beer here indeed that I am glad I got the chance to try.

Smooth and mellow. Good nutty flavor but was expecting a little more boldness given the "punch in the face" you get from Santa Fe's Java Stout.

A malty brown with a small nut taste in the finish and in the aftertaste.
Taste Rating in Words: Eating nuts that are sitting in water, nothing to write home about, but it is a snack.

Poured from a can into a tulip glass. Clear mahogany brown with a good but short lived head and decent lacing. Sweet nutty smell. Taste of hazelnut, caramel, and toasted malt. Good overall brown ale, maybe a bit too sweet.
