The beer pours a dark amber/brown color with a thick frothy off-white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a dry, roasted character with a decent amount of caramel malt sweetness. The taste is decent. It has a bone dry roasted and caramel malt flavor that goes down slow and complex with a bit too much in the way of yeast esters in the finish. The mouthfeel is decent as well. It's a full bodied beer with a little too much carbonation. This is an above average beer that's complex, but could use a touch less CO2.

growler from the brewery...

a: served in a tall lager cylinder, mother earth branded, the dark lager is a nearly opaque pecan shell brown in color, sporting a creamy sand colored head with great retention

s: highly aromatic dark toasted lager malts and a toffee sweetness are braced by a firm dark bread malt body and subtle earthy hops, some dark tree fruit aromas, clear muscadine grape perfume

m: carbonation creamy and smooth but still lively, moderate substance to the body while staying nicely clean

t: heavily toasted malts bring flavors of dark sugars, toasted grain bread, and sweet tree fruits centered atop a bready lager malt body, drying late into the finish with musky grape skins and a considerable woodiness lingering long, earthy hop flavor and mildly bitter

o: lots of depth here, an enjoyable lager with a heavy dose of character, only knock would be the sweetness - but it's only a touch more than is preferable and hinders only drinkability

Listed as 5.6%ABV. Now available in bottles.

Poured a clear, golden brown color with a wispy whitish head. Nose is mainly malts with dark sugars abounding. Taste is likewise, malt-driven, brown sugar and burnt caramel, toasted grains, slightly nutty and a touch of floral hops. About medium-bodied, pretty smooth and drinkable overall. Nothing new or amazing here, but a solid brew nonetheless.

A: A late developing head was scant on coverage and parchement in color, barely enough to cover the surface area. The coloring was quick nice, a dark ruby or caramel apple red when backlighted with a show of slow, lazy rising effervesce with no where to go in a hurry like an old women out of a sunday drive. It should be noted that i poured this sample from a growler purchased the night before. Edit: Subsequential pours yielded a cushy head with moderate retention. uptick from original 3.5.

S: The nose had a dried fruity nature, almost bock like in nature with a dried apple and ample amount of floral hops for support. Toasted grains, dried caramel with a passing of hops, perhaps nobel in nature making for a solid show strength wise, yet clean and well polished.

T: The flavor was a malt bomb, malty sweet with an almost cara-munich flavor, toasted warm malt supported by a respecteable amount of flowery hops. The body is deep in malt here, warm caramel apple and toasted caramel that is lush with a touch of alcohol. Overall a very pleasant example, again tasting almost bock like.

M: thick and syrupy, scarce of carbonation with a heavy malt lush feel and resistance on the tongue. A gentle warming of alcohol, toasted apple and flowery hops are left behind on the swallow with a good impression.

D: Wow, picked up a growler and kicking myself for not doubling down here. Enjoyed thier traditional berwick lager, but this amps things up a bit with a warm alcohol feel that adds to the enjoyability of the experience. Things only get smoother and better deeper into the drink. They claimed they next big thing on thier page, surely the best of show from this brewery thus far.
