a black pour with a ton of bubbly/foamy tan head (seems over carbonated... the foam kept rising from the bottle). smells of tobacco, chocolate, toasted grains, burnt toffee.

the flavors are very subtle and the texture is very silky - making this a GREAT stout. tastes of burnt coffee grains, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, burnt caramel. overall a bitter-like flavor, yet very subtle and light on the taste buds.

medium body with a silky creamy texture, constant fizzing carbonation.

this is a great stout and i'm shocked it only has 3 reviews. thankful for r/beertrade having a local BOTM group trade.. got a nice package from montana, including this bad boy!

Large tanish-coco colored head, slight brown hue to the black body. Charred malt with hefty chocolate notes in the aroma, along with a detectable level of slightly bisciuty pale base malt. Some creaminess comes through from the oatmeal as well. Large head settled to a half centimeter cap.

Up front the flavor is a bit drier than I expected, possibly more from the dark malts than the attenuation. Hop bitterness is present and balancing but not much for hop flavor which is fine for the style, when it does show up it is just a touch floral. Dark malts dominate the palate, leaning toward heavy roast but blended with chocolaty notes. Oats give it a some what oily texture with a bit of a grainy bran hint in the after taste.

Overall a pretty good oatmeal stout. Defintely leans toward the roatsty end of the spectrum. The finish is like I just ate a 'peace' of dark chocolate (sory for the pun, damn hippys).

22oz bottle, from a grocery store stop in Helena, MT, a few months ago. Bottle conditioned, huh? This beer pours a - wait, I can't tell just yet, as it is a gusher of the sort that I have never experienced. Sure, it overflowed on the counter top, but it didn't stop there. Nope, it did its best junior high school science project imitation, slowly burping out a steady stream of foam from the bottle neck for the next 15 minutes. After some scooping and wiping, I eventually had a glass of something that looks like a beer...

This beer appears a solid black, with slight reddish edges, and, well, I guess, now a few measly fingers of thin foamy beige head, the remnants of a much bigger affair, which settle quickly (oh how the gods mock me), leaving a low ring of lace around the glass for all that effort. It smells of lightly roasted caramel malt, creamy baker's chocolate, and some mild bitter Italian coffee. The taste is big chocolate malt, some lesser cafe-au-lait essence, a bit of sourness, and earthy, leafy hops. The carbonation is surprisingly still rather edgy - one would have though it had blown its wad by now - the body medium weight, and as smooth as the oatmeal can attain with the zippy, piercing bubbles. It finishes a bit drier, the chocolate still holding on for dear life, amidst a decent hop flourish.

Despite my initial misgivings for the amateurish presentation I was made to jump through, this turns out to be an impressively flavoured stout, well balanced with sweetness and hoppiness. Still have to quote Deadbolt, tho - those dirty, smelly hippies!

A: Pours a dark black color nice sized tan head with great lacing.
S: Smells of chocolate and espresso
T: Milk chocolate, roated grains and espresso taste
M: Medium bodied beer, very smooth and creamy going down
O: Easy drinking tasty brew, I like this one quite a bit

Growler purchased from the brewery and consumed early January. Have enjoyed this one several times over the last couple winters and consider it one of the better beers in the Lone Peak lineup.

Appearance is dark brown shade with an off white head. Body is on the light side for the style in both appearance and the slick mouthfeel. The carbonation is definitely on the low side which doesn't bother me, though doesn't contribute much in the way of head.

Smell leans toward charred dark malt with coffee and a little underlying caramel malt. Also a slightly off "plastic-like" character which also shows up in the flavor. Otherwise, flavor is a soft roasted, and slightly bitter malt with coffee character. Pretty easy-drinking.

Seems like a decent brew that needs a few kinks ironed out. IMO, could use a bit more bulk - maybe more oats. Will give it another shot next year.

I've had this beer before on tap, but looks like Lone Peak is bottling now. Figured I'd give it a shot.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown color -- almost black. Even with a careful pour, a good 3" of head forms, which hindered me the entire rest of the beer. Would not go away. Pretty impressive retention and lacing. When held up to light I see some dark ruby highlights. Great looking brew.

Smell: The smell is of coffee, bitter dark chocolate and hops. A touch on the acrid side, but still pretty good.

Taste: I get a lot of mildly acrid coffee bitterness in this beer. A touch of chocolate, and a good deal of hop character as well. Not nearly as smooth as many oatmeal stouts out there. Rough around the edges.

Mouthfeel: Over light bodied, but not really approaching medium. Uncharacteristically high carbonation for an oatmeal stout. Pretty prickly on the palate. Could be much better.

Overall: A bit lighter body than other oatmeal stouts I've had, but still worth a try if given the opportunity.
