Poured from bottle into clear glass mug - hadn't poured but an ounce or two before the entire mug foamed over. Super foamy with each attempted pour - bleh. Color is weak pale yellow - kind of looks like fake beer on Cheers TV show or some macros beers I won't name. Slightly off light lemon-scented cleaner + Band-Aids aroma. Taste is very meh - strange sour note that detracts overall. Boaks website says this is a "Belgian wheat beer with an Asian flair" - cannot figure out what that "Asian flair" is. Pretty unimpressive. Sorry - can't recommend.

12 oz bottle into tulip. no bottled on date.
A: hazy straw. sediment can be seen on the bottom of the glass. white fluffy head. retention is average but the lacing isnt great.
S: almost artificial fruit smelling. like an air freshener. i think there is some diacytl going on here. no bueno.
T: a light pear flavor. a little wheat chewiness. finish is non-existent. fruit to dryness.
M: fizzy carb on a light body.
D: lacking in some body and needs some refining around the edges. not a bad start, but needs some work.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle. Has a golden color with a very small head. Smell is mild, some wheat and grains. Taste is also mild, wheat, lemons, somewhat tart, no spices to speak of, very subdued. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall this is a mediocre beer.

A- Clear pale golden yellow with a thin off white head. Head dissipates quickly and leaves little lace on the glass.
S- Thin notes of malt and grain, very faint aroma.
T- Clean taste of malt, grain, and a hint of hops. Straight forward, not much more that a macro in flavor profile. Finish is crisp and clean but not memorable
M- Light body and medium in carbonation.
O- Ok at best, it’s low in alcohol at 4.5% ABV, and it could be session beer. It’s is however, not interesting enough to make me want to do so.

A - A medium blonde color similar to apple juice builds a very thin white head, cleared well.
S - A strong presence of citrus and fresh fruit.
T - Citrus, apricot and a yeasty aftertaste are noticeable. This beer has little taste.
M - Thin bodied and over carbonated this beer is refreshing but lacks any interesting qualities. The taste is good yet lacks anything to warrant further exploration. You could easily drink several on a hot day but with little complexity I would lose interest quickly. I have heard many good things about this brewery and I am still interested in exploring more of their bees. This beer seems to have been created with care and, being form NJ, I want to support all local breweries so I hope I will find there other beers to be more interesting.

So this is a wit with Asian flair? I get a distinct ginger and lemongrass taste as the beer warms, but it otherwise tastes like a pretty plain wit. There's mild Belgian spice and a light wheat bread, but not the depth of a great Belgian white ale. I'd avoid this one unless you really love ginger.

A: Poured a weak watery lemonade with a brilliant clarity and an equally weak show of carbonation. The head was fizzy, washy, almost dissipating immediately before I could establish its coloring as it gave way to a polished surface that was overall unimpressive and flat appearance wise.
S: Tart oranges with some buttery grains of weak proportions. Hardly a trace of wheat quality to be appreciated nor any twisted Belgian influence that I could muster. Falls flat much like its visual perception with an absolute dullard factor that gave me no incentive to further investigate.
T: Reluctantly going forth this beer continued to disappoint on some many levels it will become my poster child example of the unimpressive rating. Really sweet upfront, some signs of spicy hops but seemingly of cheap quality, with some candied wheat notes. Orange citrus come off a bit tart and watery and macro-like. The whole thing finishes off with some scratchy wheat on the finish. The flavor was simply boring, bordering on mundane and macro-influenced that would hardly raise a brow of interest but rather disappointment.
M: Fizzy mouthful, with a buttery texture hardly does little to make this experience any better. Boring finish with a watery wheat fade.
D: Not worth finishing and punishing yourself over. This beer certainly doesn't get any more complex. A 12oz serving is even to much and came off drinking like a bud wheat beer with a cheapened sweet character. A big pass here.

12 oz. bottle slow pour into a pint glass.
A- Bright flourecent yellow color. Big head. Where did that head go after the first sip? It's gone and I'm left with a boring looking beer. No lace. Chunks of sediment floating.
S- Lemongrass. Sour? Lots of grassy/earthy tones. Grain?
T- Ugh. Soapy. Tart. Lemon Jolly ranchers. Some faint wheat. Medicinaly and herbally. Lacking some balance in the flavors.
M- Lacking carbonation. Flat. Expected more body.
D- I won't be purchasing this again. This missed the mark on flavor and mouthfeel.

Lightly hazy lemon yellow with a considerable amount of uprushing carbonation. The bone white cap is a little too crackly and doesn't have the greatest texture. Nor is it very sticky, leading to a barely decorated glass.
The nose is more than solid for the style and the lemongrass gives it the 'Asian flair' that the brewer was shooting for. That said, I probably would have attributed that aroma to hops or yeast without knowing what was added. Smelling more like lemon than orange is perfectly fine.
I'm not sure what's so 'double' about Double BW. It actually tastes and feels less than single, given the extremely light body, the less than aggressive flavor and the low ABV. The only thing keeping it even remotely interesting is the use of lemongrass.
Malt, which is probably 100% pale and/or pilsner, doesn't contribute much. Hop flavor is hard to appreciate too, especially since the hops that are likely to be in use taste lemony and grassy... just like lemongrass. The flavor profile improves just enough by the end to earn the next highest taste score.
Part of the problem might be that the bottle is nearing the end of its lifespan. Estimated age is six months. That's pushing it, especially given the ABV. The mouthfeel has seen better days as well. It's incredibly light and the bubbles are both numerous and harsh. Thankfully, they settle down some by mid-bottle.
Boak Double BW might have been better in the late summer and fall, but it probably was never *that* good. Still, it's nice to see brewers take chances and use non-traditional ingredients on occasion. Thanks to jwc215 for the bottle.

A - poured into a Coke glass. Heady beer with unusually large bubbles. Settles into a hazy, pale liquid with virtually no lacing. Color is not yellow -- definitely orange, just very dilute.
S - yeast is at the forefront. somewhat sour, a little bitter. no spices or esters to speak of. Still rating it high because I like beers in "everyday" styles that are unafraid to be sour.
T - not a lot going on. Crisp wheat taste with the yeasty background you'd expect. Not actually sour or bitter anymore once it hits the tongue.
M - nice carbonation but could use more body, even for a wit
D - very drinkable just not very fun

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a weizen glass. First poured transparent like a commercial beer, but the cloudiness settled in afterwards. The white head was impressive. Very bitter nose, with surprisingly little citrus or spice complexity. The flavor was equally lacking, but the bright spot was the nice carbo mouthfeel, more than expected for a wheat beer. Overall very lacking in flavor, given the style.
