Pours a deep rich chocolate black into the brandy snifter, barely any carbonation present, no head, no lacing!
Aroma is heavenly roasted malts, coffee and chocolate, as a RIP should be. Medium mouthfeel, subtle hoppiness, and the tinge of alcohol warms my throat!!
Very tasty, with enough sweetness to mix with the 10% ABV.
I'd drink this again, for sure!

a year old bottle, stored at cellar temp in my makeshift beer cellar.

poured a dark brown almost black pour with a finger of tan head which dissipated slowly and left behind nice lacing. smells very sweet, malty, nutty (pecans), oak, raisinets. the flavor is much like the smell at first but then has a slight oxidized off taste kind of giving it a cork flavor in the finish. roasted grains, toffee, nuts, sugary sweet chocolate flavors. the mouthfeel is a bit light for the style, medium body with, again for the style, high carbonation.

this isn't a bad RIS at all, and i'm glad i finally got to drink a bottle. i always see it but skip it since there's a million other things i want to try. had this one in the cellar and decided to go for it. worth trying at the least.. wouldn't mind having this one on tap.

A - Pours pretty black, doesn't seem thick or viscous but does have a 2 finger tan head.

S - Very light nose... A bit of roasted malts & light licorice.

T - Nondescript, light malts with semi sweet chocolate.

M - Light body with medium carbonation. Needs to be thicker with less carbonation.

O - A bad portrayal of any beer in the class. A RIS should not be like this.

Never heard of this brewery before, so I was glad to receive a bottle in a recent trade...

Lots of anise present in the aromas for sure... smells like a licorice bomb to me... no booze detectable... perhaps hints of chocolate here and there but the main player is the anise... seems overpowering to me... almost like a double apple shisha or something...

The anise doesn't show itself quite as much upon sipping... fairly smooth... dark roasted malts with tinges of anise, some cocoa... pretty straightforward as far as the way the beer tastes... the real disappointment here is the super thin pilsner-like palate... nothing creamy or rich about this at all... seems even thinner than most porters... really hurts the drinkability and makes this beer seem very average at best...

One and done for me... I don't want to be too critical but the palate killed this for me... I couldn't get past it...

didnt know this beer was from NJ! Deep deep garnet color, almost black, with blood red highlights. Good clarity from what I can tell but it's so damn dark. Bug creamy off white head. No idea as to when the beer was bottled.

Kind of dead on the nose with faint charcoal roasted malt and chocolate. Some smoke and anisette.

Taste is kind of the same, extremely subtle. Medium body with good carbonation. Charcoal and thin malts on the front end, followed by roasted malt and some chocolate. No smoke on the palate though. Finishes extremely clean. Smallest touch of detectable alcohol. A little stringy feeling in the mouth.

It's impressive that this things so damn dark and high in ABV yet so damn drinkable yet its overall kind of bland. It's maybe a good intro to Russian Imperial Stouts? Kind Of? Not much bitterness, some, but its pretty balanced.
