Poured from a brown 16.9 oz. bottle. Has a dark caramel color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of malts, alcohol. Taste is malty, caramel, slightly sweet, a hint of alcohol, some molasses.. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall this is a solid beer.

500ml bottle served in a snifter. Apparent bottling date of Oct. 2011.

Poured red-amber, slightly hazy, with a small and short-lived off-white head. Smells of light, medium and caramel malts with alcohol esters and a good bit of fruitiness. These features also show up in the taste is similar, but with some balancing bitterness, less fruit and a major note of lightly roasted nuts. Lightly sweet. Near medium body is a touch watery; medium-low carbonation; semi-dry finish.

O: Caramel/malt bomb with subtle, but perhaps above average, complexity for a red ale.

Copper amber but a bit of an insipid orange - not bright. It has a small off-white head soon thinning to a foamy ring & wisps.

Aroma is a simple but nice, rich raisiny grain & caremelised bread crust, dough, wood.

Taste is slightly meaty raisin & toast, a bit winy, with pleasant grain, caramel-winy character but simple, thin, a bit watery. In the end, it's quite simple, very thin, a bit rough and bland, despite som pleasant elements.

Described on the label as "Red Ale"

A: Amber orange in color with a dense, but fluffy head. Looks nice.

S: Very caramel sweet, cloyingly sweet. Bready with notes of raisin, and brown sugar. Blanketing the entire aroma is a fairly strong booze smell.

T: Booze comes out right away. Bread, caramel, and raison come through as well. Certainly a bold flavor. Some bitterness in the finish, but the booze knocks it out pretty quickly. Some floral notes.

M: The body is a lot thinner than I would like in the style. Medium to medium light in body, carbonation is light, but assertive.

O: Overall it feels a bit rough around the edges. Smoothed out and I think it would be a pretty good beer, but right now the harshness of the alcohol i a bit much for me.

poured into a pint glass:

a nice clean amber pour with a tiny amount of head which quickly disappeared. smells of fruits and nuts up front.. smells like a barleywine honestly. the taste is very boozey up front with a nutty backbone, hints of fruits and toffee. very lightly carbonated, medium bodied, surprisingly smooth for the abv, yet still warms your chest up a bit on the way down.

i picked this up because i'm originally from argentina. i had a quilmes once and it was garbage.. i read up on regia and it seemed like it wouldn't be much different, this one though - it stuck out. it wasn't bad, and it was definitely a lot better than the tasteless quilmes lager i had.

Poured into a pint glass

A: Very nice amber color, pretty clear with a little carbonation showing. Big 2 fingers worth of head that settles to a nice ring with wonderful lacing from start to finish.

S: Very malty, bready with a slightly hoppy aroma. Very Red Ale like.

T: Just like the smell with some added flavors I missed in the smell... Start is very toasted, sweet malt then a nice hint of caramel, and finishes with a light hops.

M: Medium boded with a good amount of carbonation, but smooth finish. Pretty standard for a Red Ale

O: Pretty average Red... All the right notes are hit with this one. Worth looking for.

Here is a very European red ale. It's a very clear amber color, with an off-white head. The aroma is all malt...with a touch of yeast and alcohol. Slight toast, biscuit...very sweet...almost a honey-like scent. The taste is similar. Lots of malt, balance to the sweet side with serious malt flavor. Not really roasted, but rather toasted and bread-crust. Firm mouthfeel. Again, very European in it's feel.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had an amber color and a clear consistency. There was an inch of foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Average lacing.

S: A malty and slightly hoppy aroma. Nothing particularly special.

T: Tasted of malt, caramel, and light hops up front. Pretty watery in the finish. Not necessarily a bad flavor, but it's too frontloaded with all its ingredients.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: Not a terrible beer, but certainly a forgettable one.

From the land of tango, it's Otro Mundo Red Ale. I was very surprised to see this at Total Wine, and at a decent price ($5.49 for a 500 ml bottle). On to the beer:

Earth red in color with a semi-creamy head with passable retention and little lace that sticks around. There's a ton of butterscotch in the nose, it exlopes on you like dynamite. Gala apple and a small whiff of booze are among the subtle aromas to the dominant one.

Otro Mundo Red took a page out of the ESB style and multiplied that page tenfold. The ESB's calling card is often a mild diacetyl/butterscotch note, and what we have here is a VERY intense amount of butterscotch. There isn't much in complexity, only a little bit of light esters, otherwise this is a one trick pony. For the first half of the bottle, it worked just fine. But then the buttersctoch becomes nausiating. It's moderately carbonated with a medium and somewhat boozy body.

Too one dimensional for me, and even though I can appreaciate diacetyl, the intensity became overwhelming. It was a fun ride the first 8 ounces, but then I was ready to move on.

Poured a 1.5" off-white head which disappeared pretty quickly. Looks like a clear glass of tea with just the faintest hint of red, so I'm not sure what makes this a red ale. Smell has malt and caramel. Taste is some of the same but milder and with a little sweetness. The mouthfeel is one of the finer attributes of this because it feels kind of like a lighter-weight tripel. Good beer just not a great beer. Still, it's fun to try something from Argentina.

Appearance: Clear deep-amber body beneath an inch thick head of creamy bone-white froth. The head retention is good and the lacing is average.

Smell: Quite fruity, but also grassy, mineral-like (crushed granite), and just slightly metallic. It reminds me a little bit of the yeastiness of Whitbread. Fairly complex yeastiness. Piquant, yet pleasant and welcoming.

Taste: The flavor softens the mineral/metallic character found in the nose with a soft layer of doughy malt that's braced by its own darkish-caramel edge. It even suggests burnt sugar. The grassy hops suggested by the nose are still present, but it's really the yeasty fruitiness that commandeers the ship with notes of pear, berries, sweet grape, and apple. Yes, this is a beer driven by the yeast!!! - an ingredient that's been overshadowed lately by brewers who focus more on heavily handed hopping and/or darker and richer, more complex malt bills. It finishes fairly lingering with residual notes of fruit and mineral in a wash of bitterness and grassy hop notes.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Fine-bubbled moderate carbonation.

Overall: Although beers like this used to be commonplace, they're now becoming fairly rare. Outside of Briton I'm not sure you'll find anything quite like this. And this is from Argentina? How weird? But OK, I love it!!! It's loaded with flavor and character, and despite the slightly elevated alcohol you could easily have more than one. Well worth seeking out!

Aroma
Nice fruity phenolic character with some banana, possibly hints of toffee

Mouthfeel
Medium to low carbonation, right about where I like, a bit of body here and some residual bitterness and maybe a slight warming but abv is well hidden here to me

Appearance
Light red mahogany, can be easily seen through in an imerial pint glass. Poured to only slight head 1/4" or so and quickly dissipated.

Taste
Slight maltiness to start with some almost fruity like sweetness, but not much. Some bitterness on the finish on the sides of the mouth with a bit of warming.

Drinkability
Rather, even with 7.5% abv this seems to drink very easily.

Overall
I really like this even though I wasn't necessarily expecting to. Alcohol is well hidden in the flavor making this a deceptive beer, I'll likely buy again if I'm where it's available.

I agree with CampusCrew below, I was expecting a bit higher review for this beer when I wrote it up before visiting the site.

A: Unlike the name suggests, this brew pours a hazy brownish-red. Lacing is impressive, but head retention could really use some attention.

S: Caramel, honey, and cider are present in the bouquet.

T: Taste is assertive, with heavy emphasis on the malt; caramel, sweet malt, and a touch of cider compose the flavor. It is quite tasty overall, but a touch sweet.

M: Medium body, and good effervescence.

O: A solid brew overall, but it is bordering on cloying. Nonetheless, the caramel and honey are delicious, and the brew is definitely pleasant.

A- Pours a somewhat hazy slightly reddish orange. The one and a half finger head has just a touch of color to it. Retention is good. Little lacing.
S- Earthy, a bit caramelly, just a touch of fruityness.
T- Caramel, a faint roasted character to it. Not a bad flavor, but for an English Strong Ale, it's rather nondescript and just nothing above average.
M- Lighter than it should be for the style. Carbonation is lively and pretty spot on though.
D- Not a terrible beer, but there isn't anything particularly exciting about it, and it's just simply a slightly above average beer for me. Would drink again, but I wouldn't buy it again at its current price.

A: Pours an orange-red hue with a nice white head that descends to a small ring. Surprisingly, no lacing.

S: Sweet caramel malt aromas with a light earthy hop aroma. Nice.

T: Nothing special here. Light sweet malt flavours with a cidery aftertaste.

M: Surprisingly thin beer that finishes dry.

D: Very drinkable for a such a large beer and the style. A surprise I would consider again.

I poured this beer into my tumbler at 45 degrees. The beer was a nasty cloudy color kinda rust colored. I guess you could say. The beer tasted more like like some kind of juice. It was very sweet also. I poured it down the drain after several hits. I will not buy again.

Pours a cloudy, dark maize color. 1/5 inch head of a white color. Poor retention and poor lacing. Smells of grain, cider-like aroma, slight metallic, hint of honey, and a hint of wheat. Barely fits the style of a English Strong Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of grain, cider-like flavor, hint of honey, and slight sweet malt. Overall, poor appearance, and lacking in aroma and body.

Aroma is rich, malty and yeasty with just a hint of caramel. It pours a clear dark coppery amber, almost mahogany, with a minimal head. Flavor is malty and fruity with caramel and spicy hints, and just a little honey-like sweetness. Texture is smooth and just a little tingly. OK, give the folks in Argentina a decent chance, and they will produce a truly great beer!
