Stopped in The Smoke Stack while on our way to north Mississippi. This is a combination tobacco and beer store located just a few blocks off highway 45.
Beer selection is pretty decent, especially for a town the size of West Point. There was a large selection of Rogue bombers, Sam Adams, Lazy Magnolia, Sam Smith and many others. There was also a good selection of glassware.
The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. They made several suggestions and even gave me a bottle of one of their stouts to try.
Definitely a good place for football fans to stop on their way to a game in Starkville or Oxford. I think that once the beer laws change in Mississippi this will be a world class place to shop.

This is THE place for beer in North MS. Period. It's the only shop I've seen here that offers the chance to buy singles of anything in stock. Its perfect for trying new things. The tap list is always regional, always good. The staff in there is pretty talkative, which I usually hate, but I have come to realize that I am more than happy to talk about beer with pretty much anyone. If you're looking for a specific style they will point you to the best. If you are just browsing, you can't go wrong on anything. They get beer there weeks before my local store stocks them. I'm making the trip today. Cheers!

Compared to other bottle shops in the Golden Triangle Area, the Smokestack has everyone beat. Even before Mississippi raised the cap on allowable ABW in 2012, Phil had the best selection of anybody. If the beer can get to one of our local distributors, he will have it in his store as soon as possible and will be the first to have it. He even contacts breweries that do not distribute to Mississippi and lobbies for them to start tapping into our market.
He has a slew of Rogue bombers, Westmalle, Orval, Rochefort and of course Lazy Magnolia.
The recently installed growler fill station features high quality beers, for instance Lazy Magnolia's Timber Beast, Tallgrass Velvet Rooster, Red Brick 17th Anniversary, and Sam Adams Oktoberfest. This shows you what kind of quality that they try to have on tap. This is a must visit bottle shop if you are in the Golden Triangle area.

Since Mississippi finally repealed its arcane beer laws, I started looking around for a good beer store. There are none in Columbus, a couple in Starkville that are trying to stock some better beer, and then there's the Smoke Stack, in West Point.
I've made the trip over from Columbus twice now in two weeks, and I know I'll be back on a weekly basis for the foreseeable future.
Both times I've been in there I've been immediately asked what kind of beer I'm in the mood for and suggestions have been made, both by Phil, the owner and by various staff members. These guys know their beer!
They currently have four taps for filling growlers (soon to be six), a growing selection of Belgian Ales, everything from our lone local brewery (Lazy Magnolia) and, as far as I can tell, every Rogue that is being brewed.
All in all, the best selection of beer I've seen in Mississippi and well worth the drive from Columbus or Starkville. Come on out and see what the guys who used to make runs out of state to get real beer have to offer!
PS- They have a walk in humidor too...

This is one of the best places in the state. Great selection of beer and a very knowledgeable staff. These guys love what they do. Phil, the owner, makes it his priority to ensure that if the beer is available in the state then it's almost always available at The Smokestack. If you're in West Point, MS. be sure to stop by.
The selection covers everything from American craft brews like Lazy Magnolia to Sam Adams, Anchor, Sierra Nevada, Flying Dog. If you're looking for something a little less unique they also have that too.

Please note that I write this review in comparison to other beer stores I have visited across the nation.
Visited The Smokestack for the first time today, finally. Living and working in Mississippi is not a garden spot for a true beer lover. Since Alabama recently Freed the Hops that leaves Mississippi as the only state in the nation that doesn't allow high gravity beer. Having said that, us beer lovers in Mississippi do the best we can with what we have. And one of the best places we have is the Smokestack in West Point. Living in Columbus I hadn't even heard of the place till I joined Beeradvocate.com and searched places in Mississippi. I can't believe I've been missing the chance to purchase these beers for so long! They have quite a selection of Rogue bombers (of which I purchased several) and several other "legal" brews that I don't see much in other stores in this area. The guy behind the counter was very knowledgeable it seemed and made some great suggestions. He also put me onto raiseyourpints.com, the site for the group trying to repeal Beer Prohibition in MS. I've already joined! I will be back to West Point when my beer urges hit...which is often! Thank you, Smokestack!

For Mississippi, this store is beer heaven. If you live in the surrounding area, this place is worth visiting. They normally have a great selection if beer and they even put up BeerAdvocate information along with their beers in the coolers. They also have a walk-in humidor. Phil and who ever else might be behind the counter provides exceptional customer service. They are always willing to strike up a conversation about the ABV cap, what you just purchased, or what you would like to see.
Update: The last time I went to the Smokestack, their selection seemed a little smaller than usual. I visited the store yesterday and the selection seemed to have grown a great deal. There selection was large enough I felt like I was a kid in a candy store. Their selection included a lot or Rogue beers, Sierra Nevada, Lazy Magnolia, and a lot of others. They even had a selection lambics.

I went in here as I was in town visiting and not really expecting to find what I did. When I came in town I had brought a few bombers from Nashville because I wanted to have something beside BMC and did not know I would be able to find what I did. I knew about the package store next door, but had never noticed the Smokestack.
Glad I went.
It is nice to know that there is a fine beer establishment in West Point that not only has as good a selection as is available in Mississippi, but that also has such a courteous and knowledgeable staff.
You can bet I will be back.

I have to start off like most others who reviewed this place, MS sucks for beer, so don't expect too much off the wall beers.
I went 4/11, didn't really plan to go, just got bored and read a review for Rogue's hazelnut brown and they seemed to have it.
This is not the kind of place I'd usually stop by if I hadn't heard about it first. Lots of people from the neighbouring store sitting around, kind of a shabby building. Nothing like I expected after hearing their radio adds. The selection was pretty good though, many rogue bombers (amazing), some samuel smith and what really surprised me was the Lindemans lambics. Also grabbed a pack of monthy python ale, as a novelty though, the swill inside is not worth the quest.
The service was a bit off when we went, it might have been because of the extremely loud woman in there that took every one's attention but all in all a great little shop. Other then the rogue bombers, I can find everything here in Tupelo though, so I am not too sure if I will drive up there without checking what they have in stock first.
Edit: Went back many times since then and they always have some nice surprises, where else in MS would one find Hobgoblin, Rogue's yellow snow or 4 different kinds of Lindemans?
