Stopped by the Old Baldy Brewing one night with a group of about 5 or 6 people who were new to the beer drinking arena. This place was actually rather nice. The brews were pretty decent. I happened to really enjoy their fruit beers and their IPA.
The nice thing about Old Baldy is that everyone is really cool that works and hangs out at this brewery. The people were great and helpful and the service was fantastic.
The place can be rather loud at times but everyone is really respectful of everyone else. It's exactly the kind of environment you expect from a small town near a big city.

Old Baldy Brewery is unfortunately no longer a brewery. It is located in Upland on Second Ave, nestled in a group of shops and restaurants. Free 2 hour parking is available on the street.
The interior is dark except near the front where the wall is open. The bar is in the middle of the establishment, with table seating in front and behind it. It appeared there was some construction going on as well. Lots of wood with ceiling fans along the length of the place.
As noted before, Old Baldy is no longer brewing their own beers, and according the the bartender the owners "retired" from that venture. Bummer. They have about 10 beers on draught with a couple goodies from Green Flash, Bayhawk, Stone, and New Glarus. The bottle selection is pretty run-of-the-mill.
Service was good on a late weekday afternoon. The bartender was helpful and knew the available beers pretty well.
I did not try any food on this visit.
Overall it was disappointing to not find a brewpub on my visit, and I am not sure if I would go out of my way to seek this place out again knowing that now. However I would check it out if I were in the Upland area again because a few of the beers they do have are decent.

This was the 2nd or 3rd time I have been to Baldy Brewery and I can say I wasn't that impressed the first couple times I went. Once I was there and a band was about 3 feet away from me blaring in my ears, and the beer I had wasn't all that great either.
However, the other day I stopped in around 5pm and there were only about 3 other people there sitting at the bar. The bartender was a really nice lady that made sure we were filled up at all times. The beer was much better this time around (Loved the Brown, Raspberry, and Peach... the IPA was eh- but still refreshing, and the Hefe was generic). They had a baseball game on behind the bar which is a plus. They keep about 6 or 7 house brewed beers on tap, and then a couple other things... I think I spotted a Stella tap down at the other end of the bar.
Have never had food there, but the beer is pretty inexpensive. Our order was 4 pints and a taster set for $21. They have a deal on sunday evenings where first pint is $4.50 and then refills of anything are $1.50. I will stop in on this place a little more often.

According to the very nice lady behind the bar, this brewery was founded in 1994 in this wonderful part of old town Upland. Long before I thought anything about advocating beer- I visited this place when it first opened. I forgot all about it until I found this place again, thanks to Beerfly. My memory, when they returned, was of a generic brewpub, nothing exciting about it.
About 10 brews made here, although they aren't all available at once. 8 taps of on-site brew, and 2 other taps (Bass and something else I've forgotten). I wanted to try the IPA, but at the marmaid's suggestion, I had the Pale Ale. She was particularly proud on how it had turned out. And it was good. A very solid presentation, served way too cold, but well made. They have a couple of "mom's" fruit beers in additon to the standard (hefe, IPA, Pale, blonde, etc.).
Not a place to drive miles oout of the way for, but definitely a reasonable stop when in the neighborhood.

Old Baldy is a great stop to enjoy some pretty good brews. Their IPA is usually the best bet, but unfortunately it has lacked in flavor on a few occasions. I'm not a fruity beer drinker but all of Old Baldy's fruit oriented brews are very well crafted. The brewery is located very close to the famous Liqourama and we usually combine a trip to both places when we head out this way. The little food I've had here was pretty good. I recommend the shrimp basket, which went very good along with a fresh IPA.

I have a hard time rating this place because the high quality of the beer seems to come and go. At times their IPA can seem watered down with very little hop or malt character. Other times I've raved about it. Once I inquired to the brewmaster why the beer lacked the big hop bite, and he responded that they ran out of dry hops in brewing the beer. I've tried just about everything else on their beer menu, and I was not that impressed. It's the IPA that keeps me visiting this place, but that averages out to about every 6 months. I must say that the food we had last time was quite good. You can enjoy your food and beer with a sidewalk view of Uplands's old downtown area, as they open up the front windows to expose you to the fresh air. That's a nice touch. But I rarely see a crowd in this place. But they've been there for years and I hope they continue to make it.

While I didn't give this place a very high score, I really hope this place succeeds, because it gives hope to those of us who want a busy little brewpub in every town. Upland's little commercial area in its center is really charming, considering the spawl and resultant character-free zones ringing it.
I visited once, the night before Thanksgiving, and sat at a small table five feet from the bar. TV's on permantently from what I could tell. Other patrons were of the gruff and seedy persuasion that night making it feel saloon-like, a feeling that also was reinforced by the amouth of banners and signs hung advertising the American rice pilseners also available. The beer was just fine, though, the IPA standing tall.
Our server was a pint-size bundle of energy (good) with really stained teeth (not her fault, really, but it does leave an impression.) She was really excited to have travellers in the place, though, and worked hard to make a good impression. When she learned we were unsure of where to stay, and only armed with a AAA book, she gave us some very helpful recommendations, noting the bad and worse neighborhoods in the area. Big points for service result from somebody just being naturally kind, energetic and helpful. Are you noting this HR departments? Big service points do not have to come from big boobs in tight shirts?

Very hometown style brewpub. The service is outstanding and very helpful. Decor is worn and spartan. But the beers are fresh and good. Hand crafted selection that varies by season with several standard items. The food selections are few but quite good. Reasonable prices and special pint costs on Tuesdays and Fridays. I was glad to find VegasBill's review as I was unable to find anything in nearby Ontario.

This brewpub is unique in that the beer is hand-crafted. Every batch is just a little bit different but they range, in my opinion, from great to outstanding. My favorites are the ESB and the Stout. The location is in the small downtown area of Upland and the pub itself is very warm and friendly. Most customers are locals but they make the occasional visitor feel welcome. The food selection is limited but the food itself is excellent. This is the only true brewpub in the Inland Empire.
