Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – Pours a nearly pitch black color with a thin off white head. The head fades fast to give a medium level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is of roasted malt, some chocolate and aromas of coffee. Mixed with these aromas are some hoppy smells of a grapefruit and light earthy aroma.
Taste – The taste begins of a roasted flavors mixed with some chocolate as well as roasted coffee flavor. There is a sweetness up front that begins to fade as the taste moves on and hop flavors begin entering the taste. Initially the hop flavor was entirely of grapefruit flavor. Other hop flavors of a earthy nature then comes to the tongue, which when combined with the grapefruit and the roasted flavors leave a slightly citrus bitter and roast flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is on the average side with a very average carbonation level. Both are good for the style and nice for the roasted flavors as well as the hoppy flavors.
Overall - A good roasty more medium hopped beer. It would be nice if Elk’s Creek Café would make this a normal offering at Zeno’s. Bitter finish and quite tasty.

Happy 40th Anniversary to Zeno's! This beer was brewed by Tim at Elk Creek Ale Works with Simcoe hops from the folks at Weyerbacher.
Served in a pint glass. This beer is black with a small tan head.
Smell offers pine, some citrus, herbal hop qualities, slight roasted character, well balanced nose.
Taste follows aroma with piney hops balanced well by sturdy malts. Similar roasted qualities and even bitterness.
Lighter in body than some but good.
Try this one while you can.
