Had on tap at the brew pub

Appearance – As the name implies a nice copper color. A slightly off white head gives way to a bit of lacing as the beer sits.

Smell – Some sweet caramel and toffee with a very light earthy hop aroma.

Taste – From the smell I was expecting something much sweeter but was surprised to be meet with a more malty flavor profile. The sweetness of the caramel then works its way in with a bit of earthy hop flavor toward the end.

Mouthfeel – A average body with a average level of carbonation. Good for the style.

Overall – If your looking for a bit of a more dry copper ale then this is a good choice.

Pours a clear dark gold with a bit of white head.

Smell is sort of restrained. Pretty straightforward with delicate citrusy hops playing on malt.

Taste is similar to smell but hops dominate. Decent hop profile which was unexpected. Well balanced with light caramel sweetness.

Easy to drink this one down with plenty of tickly bubbles.

Not the best from Elk Creek but still quality.

On-tap at the brewpub.

A: The ale is a cuprous amber color, translucent despite its darker hue. A half a finger of head, no lacing, comes along with the glass.

S: The nose benefits from a strong dose of C-style hops. The citrus, a strong match against the bready caramel malts, has its moments. The balance between the two elements makes the ale work.

T: The pale ale nicely straddles the hop- and malt-centric worlds. The hops, citrusy and fresh, taste as though they've been run through the secondary Hairy John hops. They are lively but relaxed. Matched against caramel and toffee malts, the results are often a draw. Not as hop forward as other Elk Creek offerings but a pleasant drink nonetheless.

M: The mouthfeel has enough flourishes of fresh hops to keep me interested in its malt-focused taste. I'm surprised that it has taken me this long to have the beer on tap.

D: A sessionable APA from Elk Creek. The bigger offerings are more intriguing but this is no slouch.

A-Bright copper with a thin white head that reduced to a thin veil. A bit of spotty lace left behind.

S-Sweet caramel malt with some backing toffee. Earthy/floral hops sneak in on the backside.

T-Nice initial earthy bitter hop bite that mellows out and is taken over by caramel malt sweetness. A bit of dry biscuit malt in the finish.

M-Medium bodied, smooth and creamy. Good lingering earthy bitterness.

D -Totally drinkable and quite sessionable as I imagine the ABV isnt much over 5%. This is the type of beer that could nudge BMC drinkers into the realm of craft beer. A solid, tasty and easy to drink brew.

On tap at Elk Creek on 1/19/08. Served in a pint glass.

A - Nice clear copper-colored body with one-finger bubbly, white head that diminished into a whispy film. Very modest carbonation and no lacing to report.

S - Rich caramel malt with some toffee notes. Hops are really earthy with some herbal notes in the back.

T - Starts off with a bitter hop bite and segues into plenty of caramel sweetness. Finishes with a clean grainy malt aspect with some bready qualities.

M - Medium body with perfect amount of carbonation and fairly creamy texture. Short, semi-bitter finish.

D - Very drinkable brew. Not too hoppy. This would serve as a great cross-over brew for someone who wants to get into craft beer. I could easily throw back a few of these in a single session. Fresh, well-balanced and tasty brew.
