I'll admit, I ordered this one because of the novelty. Asparagus beer, seriously? What I thought might be a one-and-done ended up being one of my favorites of the night. Clear and mellow yellow in appearance, the aroma and flavor of grilled asparagus acts as an amazing compliment to the base ale. It's a bit floral, a bit zesty, and super clean.

22 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 5/13/2015. Pours lightly hazy bright golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, asparagus, cracker, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with well balanced lemon/asparagus, pale malt, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of asparagus, lemon, pear, apple, cracker, bread, herbal, grass, slight smoke/char, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal hop and asparagus bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, asparagus, pear, apple, cracker, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of lemon/asparagus, pale malt, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth and slightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good fruited blonde ale style. All around good balance and robustness of lemon/asparagus, pale malt, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. The base blonde ale for this beer was spot on to style as well. A very enjoyable offering.

For what this is, it's very dead on. Basically, we have a blonde-ish beer brewed with asparagus. This results in very evident asparagus in the nose and on the tongue. Bitterness is limited to that which comes naturally to the asparagus and nothing really seems contrived. All told, this is a beer that can truly be appreciated if you are a fan of the spear.

Fairly typical Right Brain experience... sounds interesting, but doesn't quite taste that way... Short's would have done this better. This will be a short review because it needn't be long -- this is a fairly mediocre beer. As most, I was intrigued by the idea of asparagus in a beer. Unfortunately, it barely comes off at all. This essentially drinks like a cheap craft lager with a slight, strange "twang" to it, as if it's starting to bad. Yet, this has a somewhat refreshing finish? Very strange beer, but not for reasons I was expecting. A pretty middle-of-the-road beer that's not as intriguing as you'd probably hope.

Earthy and herbal asparagus hint. Nicely carbonated and clean. Sampler on tap.
