Off tap this beer was an amber/gold color with good clarity. The retention of the beige cap, composed of tiny bubbles, was excellent and the lacing was in sheets. The aroma was semi-sweet and light, toasted malt and caramel malt in particular. The flavors were excellent, vanilla, caramel malt, toasted malt, dark fruit and floral hops that added balance and a bitter finish. The mouthfeel was soft, the body medium and the carbonation light. I could have drank this one all night. This was the best beer I tried at this location and if you order only one make sure this is it.

this beer poured a clear dark amber with a creamy almost nitrus looking head. the aroma is overwhelmingly malty with a barely detectable hop backing. the taste was a little bit sweet for me... yes even if it is a scotch ale. the mouth feel was more than decent with the significant malt showing up there too, but the eight percent makes it a hard drink.

The beer pours a brown color with a thick frothy off-white head that quickly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a nice intense malt scent with some hops present and a warm alcohol aroma. The taste is good also. It has a rich malty flavor that goes down smooth and finishes dry and warm. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a medium bodied beer with a little less than adequate carbonation. This is a decent Scotch ale. It has good aroma and flavor, but the mouthfeel ruined it for me.

Brewed in October of '02, this Scotch has 8.2% abv. Poured a dark brown color, more like mahogany perhaps, with a creamy, creamy tan head. The head was fine and lasted quite well, though it left only a minimum of lace. Nose was exceedingly mild, with only a slight hint of some malt. Warmth later brought out some more sweetness hidden within. Body was perhaps a smidge less than medium, especially for the style. Though slightly thin, it did pass smoothly over the tongue. Taste was semi-sweet, with some peaty notions to it. I'm not sure if they ever put this in wooden casks, but I swear I picked up a whiskey-like flavor, too. As the bier warms significantly more sweetness comes forth. Not bad at all. Cheers!!

For an ale that packs a wallop of 8.2% this scotch is smooth and delicious. Poured dark it ends with almost a white wine after taste. I've had two versions of this, one back in '02 then again in '04, both were good but the prior is the one that sticks in my mind. I can't help but recommend stopping into Davidson Brothers in Glens Falls and trying it out for yourself.

A - Pours a deep, but still slightly clear red-brown color with a bit of off-white head. The head faded fairly quickly to a ring around the glass and left some lace behind.
S - Aroma is full of sweet caramel malts and some sweet dark fruits. There is also just a touch of vanilla and oak.
T - Starts off with some sweet dark fruit flavors and rich caramel malts. Little bit of vanilla notes in the background. Through the middle some oak flavor alongside just a touch of hops come through. The finish is a mix of the sweet malt and fruit flavors and just a touch of oak and booze that linger.
M - Medium bodied and moderate-low carbonation. Feels a touch thick and syrupy with just a hint of a oily finish, but fairly clean. Could use a touch more carbonation.
D - Very drinkable. The 9+%abv here stays very well hidden and the beer is very smooth. Could use a bit more punch in the flavor and the nose, but otherwise a pretty tasty beer.
