Let me begin by saying WOW! It was my first time there tonight and it totally blew my mind! A friend from work has been telling me about this place for about a week or two now, so I finally gave in to go with him for some drinks after work. We sat at the upstairs bar and had the best bartender you could ever ask for, his name, Casey. He is part owner of the establishment. Let me tell you, this man knows his shit! You want to talk beer, he knows it. Beers paired tremendously with their corresponding glasses, great suggestions, and help with beer that I have never even heard of before. He had the best grasp on beer that I have ever heard. I tried 3 new beers that I have never even had before. Put it this way they had St. Bernardus abt 12 on TAP on Tap, as well as Cantillion Gueuze and Sly fox oatmeal stout. Amazing!! They serve Mexican food to accompany the great beer selection and the food is pretty damn good as well. I just can't get over the tap selection. They are truly on their way to becoming one of the better beer bars in Philadelphia. Hats off to Pistolas. Here is to many more years to come! You can't go wrong with this bar. If you are ever in Philly check it out!

We stopped by here for some beers and late night burritos. We sat at the tables in the back of the first floor. Upstairs on the second floor there was a second bar and a live band playing.
Beer selection was pretty solid, with a diverse selection of American craft beer plus a Belgian or two. Server was friendly and managed to memorize our group's entire order.
Burritos were simply amazing, I had the spicy pork and to date it's the best burrito I've ever had. Definitely will be heading back here.

Nice to see a Mexican restaurant with a solid tap and bottle list. Around 15 taps and lots of nice bottle options including Russian river sours and a 3F option when I went. Menu made note of cantillion options too, but they were out when I was there. Wife and I went on a Saturday night and it was not crowded, so that was a nice plus. Food was very good and the beer options made this visit a nice experience.

Stopped in here last weekend for some lunch while the Deschutes event was going on. My first time here, I have heard such great things about the place I was really looking forward to checking it out.
Bar itself is all split up with tables and chairs and stairs all over the place. Plenty of people milling around enjoying beers. TV's hanging on the walls offer some distraction from all of the loud tables around us. Service was pretty good. The bartender came to service our table since the server was nowhere to be found. Once he took all of our orders the server turned up and they combined to keep a close eye on us the rest of our stay.
Quality seemed to be high. All of our food was top notch and all of our beers were served in the proper glassware. Selection was pretty good. Taps were a wide verity of offerings from all over the place. They were offering 5 Deschutes beers on-tap but you had to order their brunch, which was kinda dumb considering they were just the standard offerings and nothing rare. I went with an Oxbow they had on tap but we also shared a Black Butte XXIV. For food we shared a plate of excellent nacho's and I went with the short rib taco's which were very tasty. Prices on the food were quite reasonable and they drafts weren't too bad either, the bottles were pretty steep tho.
Overall an awesome little beer bar in the heart of the city. I would return just to eat, the beer is just a bonus.

My first stop in Philly, we went in for lunch since it was close to where we were staying. And we were craving Mexican food.
Dark, with a small bar up front, good music playing, and a bigger seating area towards the back.
Quality was good, nothing but excellent beers were on draft here. I had a Centennial IPA from Founders which was tasty, and seemed fresh and cared for.
Service was good, the guy tending bar was friendly and speedy.
Selection was good, I believe 15 taps, lots of variety, the cask looked like it was off. I don't recall what the bottle list was like.
Food was surprisingly good. I tend to have lower expectations when I eat Mexican food so far from California, but this was pretty solid.
Prices were good for food, a bit high for beers though.
Overall a good place for food and beers in Philly.

Friday night, beat the crowds for an early dinner. Ksak in tow, along with Bill, Pat, and the Sarahs.
Atmosphere: Dark, and the early evenings don't help much. Downstairs is a bar and seating area, up the long staircase another bar. Heads are up even higher.
Quality: I went in search of Sucks and missed it by just a few. Too bad. Service was acceptable and I liked my dinner.
Service: Stopped by regularly, scoffed a bit at rearranging tables but we made everything work out. Must be a small kitchen, dinner took a while.
Selection: A good tap selection. I was intrigued by Mean Old Tom and Yards Love Stout. In addition, Allagash, Founders and Left Hand were featured, along with a cider. Good to better listwise.
Food: This is where I was sold. The sunrise burrito, spicy with chorizo and buffeted by light eggs was an inspired choice.
A good place, not as crowded earlier in the evening, that I wouldn't mind coming back to.

Visited Jose's for the first time Friday evening 11/11.
A: Good overall atmosphere. Understandably a bit crowded on a Friday night around dinner time. On a normal night I'd imagine the upstairs is a bit less crowded.
Q: I'd say quality is pretty high across the board. Fresh food and beer, building seemed well maintained.
Ser: The service was good. I wouldn't say it was exceptional. It was a busy night and certain things are expected in those circumstances. The waiter did mis-hear a friend's order, but he took it off the bill and everything was fine.
Sel: The taps are usually very good, even in comparison to other bars in the area. I tend to keep up with phillytapfinder, so without having been to Jose's previously I know they tend to have good rotating tap selection. The food menu was appropriately sized. It wasn't difficult to see what their specialties are and that's Mexican and BBQ style food.
F: The food we ordered was very good. We had pork tacos and a burrito. Both were a value for the price (approx. $10). We ordered the chips/guac/salsa for an appetizer. The salsa was very fresh, but not particularly spicy, the guac was pretty standard, but it was also fresh so that's always appreciated. We noticed a few things were particularly sweet, but their Verde sauce was a nice compliment to counteract that.
V: I'd say everything was a good value for the price. The only mistake we made was switching over to margheritas. The price wasn't listed, and that turned out to be about $20+ for a pitcher. We'll stick to beer next time.
I'd definitely return to Jose Pistola's. Really good mexican food and beer at a convenient location. I'd just steer clear of the margheritas if you're on a budget.

Enjoyed the Wipeout IPA . Sad that neither the Pliney or Blind Pig
were available . Grouper fish tacos were very good . Nachos were better than very good . Monks is always way too crowded so this restaurant was a fantastic alternative . On the way home to the septa stop we had an experience with a supposedly Good Dog .
He was bad . A musical show was about to start , but never materialized . We had to say goodbye to Jose for now.. The air conditioning was top notch .We will return to say hello to Jose.
