Sat on the backpatio area for a friends b-day party.

Great selection of brews. They have a very extensive bottle and tap list and the servers seem pretty knowledgeable about the stuff on tap. The rotate everything pretty regularly and have a rewards club card that gives you a discount. I didn't order food but a few in our party did and they seemed to enjoy everything.

I had bottles of Hoppin Frog B.O.R.I.S. and SN Bigfoot. Both were reasonably priced.

They do have a cool atmosphere with live music on the weekends and plenty of tvs to watch sports.

Overall a pretty cool place that I would visit again.

OK...so, compare to Tanks Bar and Grill (the other fav beer haunt in Dayton), Chappys wins...

but they're different enough that they almost serve two different audiences. Chappys has the better beer selection, and better food, but it comes at a cost, literally.

you go to these two places for two different reasons: Chappys for a special occasion, and Tanks for a flat-out-great neighborhood experience.

Just TRY Chappys loaded chips or their po-boys. bar none in the Dayton area.

if only their beer club was less constricting, limiting you to such standard fare as sam adams, i'd be there every week. as is, the buds and i make it once or twice a month...

highly recommended. you don't get much better than this in Dayton, really....

I have been going to Chappy's since it opened.

A great place with great atmosphere, great food and a always changing selection of great beers.

Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about their beer selection.

They have a beer menu with a list of all current offerings and information about each. They list on the beer menu whats coming ion new so you can anticipate the next trip.

Check out their website. Their menu is posted for food and current beer offerings.

Their ribs are really good and I recommend the cajun shrimp appetizer.

I found this place thanks to beer advocate. I went for dinner tonight. They have some tvs, so you can watch the game, but based on the layout of the restaurant and the menus it is clear this isn't your average sports pub. The atmosphere was more upscale than I expected- however the restaurant was darker than I though it should have been.

They have an extensive beer selection and lists to explain the choices. Take a look at the website if you're looking for something specific.

The food was very good and reasonably priced considering the portion. I ordered the ribs with macaroni and cheese and cheesy potatoes.

The service was excellent, I will be back.

Although a little out of the way from downtown Dayton, this place is a worthy detour! I've been going since they opened and lets just say the patronage has tripled since then.

Atmosphere is very nice, they have a sit down/dine room, party room, great bar space with high top tables and a patio that is a little on the small size.

Just grab the "Beer Bible" and go nuts, multiple taps and a huge bottle list. Taps are constantly rotated as this place acquires some of the harder to get kegs in Ohio. Had Goose Island Dominique last time I was there!

The Food = Amazing! Best fried chicken in the area! Home made loaded potato chips are a must as well as the hand cut fries. You won't be disappointed by the cuisine just maybe the prices, which aren't out of this world but a little pricey.

Service is great. Staff seems to be very knowledgeable and trained on new tap selections. Some are more beer geeks than others.

All the brews come with glassware suited for the style as long as there are some left (sometimes it gets busy).

Make it a point to stop by and enjoy a great dinner with a few great beers!

Cheers.

This is a great beer bar and it's nice to finally see one south of town. Probably the best fried chicken I've had around Dayton hands down. I would like to see the menu change a little bit. It has always been the same every time I go in and the specials are always the same as well. My girlfriend actually won't go anymore, because she wants to see something else on the menu.

The service is great. All the bartenders know their beer and surprisingly so do most of the wait staff.

They have 30 taps and 100+ bottles.

The only thing I wish they did a little better at, the selections on tap. With 30 taps they should have almost every popular style represented. And they should rotate more of their taps more often. And please can we get some sour beers in there.

All and all I would recommend this place to anyone in town.

As a member of the 100 beers club, I would say Chappys is one of my favorite bars in Dayton. The amount of enjoyment is highly based on who your server is but overall this place is great. The beer selection is great and their weekly turnover on seasonals always gives you new things to try. The food is also a highlight. It may not be the best for for you to eat but it is really good. Their appetizers are filling and the dinners are made for two. Their cheesy potatoes are to die for. I would definitely recommend Chappys to anyone, oh and ask for Larry if you go

The first thing that stands out about Chappy's is the incredible beer selection. By my count, they have approximately 14 craft brews that are always on draught, including some great selections such as Dogfish Head 90 IPA, St Bernardus 12, Hoeggarden, Chimay White, Southern Tier Unearthly, Oak aged Arrogant Bastard and more. In addition, they also have at least another 5-10 rotating drafts of seasonals and other beers, not to mention around 100 or so bottled selections. Many of the beers are served with the glassware from the brewery. Staff is friendly and cordial -- there are many TV's in the bar and restaurant area, but they are typically placed in corners and high on the wall -- I wouldn't necessarily classify it as a sports bar. They often have special events going featuring a particular brewery or special -- check their website and mailing list for these! In the past year, they've added a frequent beer club promotion -- you get a card and they check off beers from a list of 100 as you drink them. This definitely helps move their bottled beers and keep them fresh. My only critique, is although the food is good, it would be nice if they had a little more variety with some healthy and/or a vegetarian option.

Tried this place for the first time for dinner last night. I've been meaning to get here for ages but there's just no easy way to get there for me but my first stop was an enjoyable one. Started out with St. Bernardus Abt 12 on tap. I actually think I prefer it from a bottle, but it was fresh, at a perfect temperature and served in its appropriate glass. Sucked down several perfect two hearted's with dinner, again in their own Bell's glass. Finished the night off with a Poet stout. Had the artichoke dip, homemade BBQ Chips + Dip (Awesome!) and the cajun jumbo shrimp. A fantastic meal overall and my bill was under 40 dollars for all of it! Not bad considering the number of good craft beers that I sucked down. Definitely coming back!

This is my local beer bar, and has the best draught beer selection of any place I know of in southwest Ohio.

The atmosphere is basically nice sports bar; food is very good overall, with some excellent appetizers (the biggest Buffalo wings I've ever had and awesome beer battered shrimp), tasty BBQ ribs and excellent fried fish, as well as burgers and Po'boys; but for me the draw is the beer.

They have around 20 beers on tap, with only one of those being a mainstream lager. During a recent visit, they had Goose Island Imperial IPA and Matilda, Unibroue Trois Pistoles, Loose Cannon Hop3 Ale, a heffie, aome Belgians, Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard, and several craft porters & stouts, including Hoppin' Frog BORIS the Crusher (crush me, baby!), among others. Selections change often.

They offer several samplers, which also change through the year (the current "Bitter Beer Face" is nice!), although you can't substitute. Sample tastes can be had of some of the beers, but generally not the high end selections. Happy hour pricing (including daytime on Saturdays and all day Sunday) is a plus!

Chappy's has become my default place to catch a Packer game when they're not being aired locally, and I've met several fellow Packer fans who are also regulars. They do show other teams' games during football season as well.

Definitely worth checking out! They also have a tent at Ale Fest Dayton in August (food only), where they hand out coupons good for a free appetizer.
