12oz Bottle from Wegmans Syracuse NY for 2$

Appearance – Slightly hazy copper colour with an averagge size frothy and fizzy beige coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation and there is some decent lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, hops, caramel, grapefruit

Taste & Mouth - The beer has an average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, caramel, and hops. There is also some grapefruit and oranges mixed with a strawberry/apricot like sweetness. I can pick up on the booze and the beer ends with a malty sweet aftertaste with some dry hop bitterness.

Overall – An above average DIPA. Not up to snuff with the amazing DIPA's that can be found in California, but still decent enough to warrant trying at least once.

Bottle was picked up at The Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg, VA during a recent visit to Virgina.

Poured into a DFH Pint Glass

A - Beer pours a golden amber color. A small half-finger head that fades quickly. Lots of sticky lacing left after drinking.

S - A muted aroma but I'm picking up some hops and malts.

T - The aroma doesn't give a hint to how good this beer is. Lots of citrusy hop goodness with a strong malt backbone. Caramel/toffee like taste. This is very reminiscent of DFH 90 in it's lean towards the sweeter side. The hops provide a nice, bitter aftertaste but nothing that overpowers the overall balance. The ABV is well disguised for a 9.25% ABV brew.

M - A medium consistency/mouthfeel. Light carbonation.

O - This is a really good DIPA. It's very easy drinking and was a pleasant surprise. I had never heard of it before and pick up the bottle since I love DIPA's. Recommended.

Poured into a snifter.

A: Slightly hazy amber with two-finger, off-white, creamy head that lasted several minutes and left a nice film. Great lacing.

S: Pineapple and citrus. Hops. Mild.

T: Moderate sweetness and solid hop bitterness. Not too much pineapple in the taste. More bitter hops and a sort of toasty malt. A hint of alcohol.

M: Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Slightly dry.

O: I was disappointing by the nose and taste of this double IPA. A bit mild and bland which doesn't complement the hop bitterness too well. Also, the slight taste of alcohol was not good.

Straight pour from 22oz pry-off bottle to a tall, straight-mouthed Ommegang flute. No freshness or bottle dating evident, but this was purchase about four weeks ago at a Whole Foods in the Durham, NC area; I’m assuming it’s relatively fresh, but it’s hard to say.

Appearance (4.5): Pours a good three fingers of custard-colored head at first, kind of crackling to a rocky cap that takes its sweet time dying down, leaving some good lacing all around the glass. The body is a moderately hazy, reddish gold color and very pretty. This is a damn good-looking beer, really.

Smell (3.0): There are some nice hops here, kind of a bright citrus of the fruity pineapple-mango variety (rather than crisp, snappy grapefruit and lemon) that’s kind of buried underneath a hefty dose of sweet, slightly oxidized caramel. Gingerbread, brown sugar, apple cake, cider. Not quite enough hops, malt comes on pretty thick but it’s not unpleasant.

Taste (3.5): Good dose of kind of pithy, citric bitterness gives way to that same kind of rich, sweet (but not really cloying) malt character, that’s again mostly caramel but with some drier, less sweet but still rich character of baked goods filling it out. The hops close out on the finish, with a decent earthy hop flavor and grassy-pithy bitterness. No alcohol to speak of on the palate, which is surprising.

Mouthfeel (4.0): Subdued carbonation, slightly tingly and foams modestly on the way down; the body is relatively slick and moderately chewy, definitely on the full side of medium. Not the driest finish, but there’s enough bitterness and levity to invite another sip.

Overall (3.5): This is a decent DIPA. It’s definitely not perfect, but nothing about it is unpleasant. It does, more or less, what a DIPA does, but nothing exceptionally (with the exception of the appearance). Happy to have tried it, but I most likely won’t seek it out in the future.

This is one of my favorite Double IPA's. it has a smoothe head with an absolute flavorful finish. a bit on the dark side for an IPA but thats what is great about this beer. A different turn for an IPA. I thought it went great with a steak and potatoe dinner. Not to heavy and the word light is not an option for this brew.

Bottle purchased in California, and brought back to Sydney to share with @LaitueGonflable and @tobeerornottobe.

Pours a slightly deeper than golden gold colour, with a touch of copper to it. Head is a frothy, inconsistent film that forms some large bubbles in places and a misty nothingness elsewhere. Body is pretty firm and pleasant, and leaves streaks of static carbonation as it's tilted. Looks good.

Nose is hoppy, but in a generic way: clear slightly vegetative or oily pine characters, above a solid cushion of sweet maltiness. It's fragrant, but it doesn't really offer anything above the ordinary.

Taste is a little flat, but it's actually pleasantly balanced. Mild tangy hops above a clean malt presence. It forms a slightly biscuity base, while the hops (while still generic) provide a nice cleansing and slightly herbal bitterness on the back. Feel is slightly thick, partially because of the build up of hops on the back.

Overall, this is a pretty generic IPA, but it has a cleanness and a nice balance to it. Let's just say it does "generic IPA" really very well.

A middle of the road mediore dipa, at best. Too many malts and no real hop influence. A nice drinking experience, but as far as all the characteristics I would hope for the style: not much there. I could do without it, as you can see by the numbers on this one.

Deep amber color with about 1 finger of white head. Pretty good lacing. Sweet toffee and malt nose. Lots of caramel, touch of earthy hop.

Tons of malt, sweet toffee and dark fruits up front with just a touch of earthy bitterness. Lingering sweetness. Feels like a Double IPA without any thought and not enough hops. Full mouthfeel, semi-syrup like on the finish. Balance isn't there and it tastes tastes like homebrew. Bleh, glad I didnt bring this into my shop.

A: A dark amber in color, with a little bit of head at the top, not to much lacing

S: A lot of citrus and pine notes up front, the grapefruit is pretty over powering as well, the malts and hops come through at the tail end.

T: Strong hop presence and bitterness up front, notes of PINEapple and grapefruit and good amount of hops and malts.

M: Medium bodied and mid carbonation.

O: Not to bad of an IPA, but not the best.

A: Pours red with a sticky white head that disappears quickly

S: A mix of piney and citrus hops right up front, with huge hints of sticky caramel sweetness. Slight hints of tropical fruit, mostly pineapple.

T: Huge blast of piney hops up front, quickly swallowed by a generous caramel and malt sweetness. The end offers a touch of citrus hop bite, also leaving a sticky resin feeling in the mouth with lingering sweetness from the malt. Awesome.

O: This is a fantastic double IPA. I'll definitely be grabbing more of this stuff.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a duvel glass.

A: pours a slightly hazy dark orange amber with about half a finger of white head that dissapates slowly and leavs some spots of lacing.

S: sweet citrus over a caramel malt backbone, deffinatly smells like the big brother of their regular ipa, perhaps slightly more malt dominant. I wish there was a bit more hop aroma here,

T: much like the tye nose, a bigger more malty brother of missions regular ipa.... tropical fruits, pineapple, mango, over a sweet caramely malt backbone. The pine comes through thick on the finish... Giving a deep piney caramel note... I wish overall the hops were a little more pronounced throughout.

M: medium/heavy with low/medium carbonation, a bit slick and oily, coats the mouth with a bit of resiny bitterness. The alcohol is fairly well hidden here

O: a decent dipa, I wish overall the hop profile was a little more pronounced, however without a bottle on date I'm not even positive as to how fresh this brew is. Certainly not a bad brew, but I prefer the regular mission ipa.

Big sweet juicy tropical fruit on this one. Lime, orange, guava, passionfruit. It just smells great!

Pours a hazy orange with a slightly off-white head that laces very nicely and doesn't dissipate too quickly.

Flavor is big on citrus fruits, tangerine and lime for the most part. Again, as I described the aroma, I'll say this is very "juicy". There is a nice breadiness to it as well, which rounds it out nicely.

Moderate carbonation and a full body, this beer packs quite a punch at just over 9% ABV. It's syrupy, but not overly thick. It drinks quite well, and makes you thirst for more.

This is an amazing beer...I love the smooth finish...sweet yet no smack of alcohol or bitterness...well balanced for that much 9.25% alcohol...I can't really find any typical disappointments to this beer...the only criticism is that I prefer a slightly more pronounced hop in the citrus flavor...I would serve to my buddies with pride.

A: This poured a nearly clear light copper with a bit of off-white head.
S: It smelled like orange and grapefruit and sweet caramel.
T: It tasted like candied apricots and copper and caramel, with some grapefruit. It had a clean and bitter aftertaste.
M: It was slightly thick with some carbonation. Decent body.
D: This was decent, but not as good as the standard Mission IPA. It had a nice scent and body, but wasn't super delicious. The body was ok, and the alcohol was decently hidden, so it was easy enough to drink. Nice to try once.

Fresh bottle in San Diego...and what a huge difference it makes.
Appears a orange toned amber with a fluffy white head that slowly fades. Scattered bits of lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of danky weed, heavy citrus, flowers, perfume, and vibrant hop resin.
Taste is of the aromas with an herbal hop blast with sugary malt. I really like this beer. The herbal and earthiness comes through more as it warms.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, warming, bitter leaning, and mostly balanced.

Pours a lighter fizzy 1/2 finger head that sticks around a bit at least, nice layered lacing, over mostly clear nectar orange with a slight reddish hue.

Nose has some bittering hops, plenty of malts, sweet malts with some caramel and bready toasty reddish malts. The hops bring some candied like aromas, with light candy orange and earthy syrupy almost hop extract like, and hints of candied tangerine and clementine.

Taste comes sweet, quite sweet actually, lots of malts that just bombard the taste with sweetness and even some syrupy flavors, a bit of a maple like flavor as well that comes with the reddish malts, caramel, toffee, and nougat. Sweetness tries to balance the booze but doesn't quite go far enough, or in thsi case I think too far that the booze comes out the other end... uhhh didn't mean it that way... but the booze still comes out with a warmth and little tingle. The hops are mostly bittering, fairly bitter but not enough to balance the malty sweetness, light candied tangerine and slight clementine like citrus, earthy hops, but not much of any of the flavors, mostly just bittering that even somehow gets a bit astringent. The finish is still fairly syrupy and sweet, it tries to dry but just can't, with a big astringent bitter bite that doesn't want to go away, even with the sweet malty mess, just a bit of booze on the finish as well.

Mouth is heavier bodied, some warming and tingle booze, decent carb, bit syrupy.

Overall not very good, a mess of a beer, way too overboard on the malts, sweetness, and booze, but still somehow finds a way to get too bitter and astringent, and the hops don't add much except the bitterness. Quite undrinkable.

The color is clear bright copper with a sizeable cream colored head and excellent lacing. The aroma brings sweet maple pine, almost evergreen with a nutty grain backbone. The flavor offers a fairly intense brandy-malt with nice herbal-pine hops and Baby Ruth nuttiness. This has a kind of medicinal, root beer quality. This is barley-wine territory. Slightly cloying with a medium-heavy body that presents an oily, somewhat resinous yet frisky feel. This is a quality hop brew and easily recommended!

Served in a CCB snifter.

A: The beer poured a fairly clear amber color, with about a 1/2 finger or so solid white head that retained itself pretty well.

S: Smelled like a fruity, citrusy, cotton candy, without much maltiness at all.

T: This was more on the fruity side than the citrus one, but I did manage to get a tinge of grapefruit, lemongrass, and sugary Jolly Rancher.

M: This was kinda sugary, but I personally didn't find it too offensive. The lacing on the glass was pretty splotchy.

O: This was good, but I expected more from a San Diego brewery.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into an Allagash cervoise glass.

A: Two fingers of tight head. The colour is a brilliant ruddy amber, clear with some bubbles. Very pretty.

S: Fruity hops. Pine resin. Straightforward, but powerful.

T: Not bad! Somewhat of a hop bomb -- very bitter (75 IBU) and initially astringent. However, there is nice balance provided by the malt base and the heavily fruity topnotes. The maintaste is long and full, with an enduring, grapefruity aftertaste.

M: Substantial. A bit of chewy malt. Not as much carbonation as you'd think.

O: I like DIPAs quite a bit, and this is no exception. Very nice beer. Recommended to hop lovers. At times, noticeably strong. Don't let it warm up.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle, from a beer of the month mixed six pack from Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg, Virginia, into a snifter. Pours a nice amber with a medium size head that dissipates fairly quickly, but leaves very nice lacing down the glass. Smells of floral and citrus with slight malty notes. Tastes of sweet citrus and a little bit of alcohol syrup, but not offensively, and has enough bite. Is a medium body, carbonation is right, and goes down smooth. Overall, a very good DIPA.

12 oz. bottle poured into a globe glass, pouring a light amber with half an inch of slightly off white foam. Bright golden in the light just a hint of haze.

Pleasant hop aroma of muddled grapefruit, pine and some peppery spice. Bit of caramel malt in the background and a touch of alcohol is notable on a deep inhale. Hop spice expands with warming to better cloak said alcohol however. And while never grabbing you by the throat with an onslaught of hops, it does entice throughout.

Flavor is moderately sweet with a touch of caramel and a citric flavor leaning more towards orange and tangerine than the nose suggests. Carbonation is medium allowing for a full and creamy feel that still isn't too sweet. Bitterness is a bit subdued however as the malt profile masks the ABV better on the taste than the smell.

Overall a good IPA to have with a meal and with a good lingering finish.

A- This beer has a deep bright tarnished copper body with a microbubble swirl of carbonation. There is a beige creamy head that pushes over the glass and holds its ground.

S- The spicy green hops come through during the pour with a slight lime citrus quality to them.

T- The green tangerine hops flavor has a brassy taste to it with a woody green hops finish. There is a sweet malt flavor underneath the hops.

M- The full fizz texture gives a creamy character with a full mouthfeel and no alcohol heat noticed.

O- The full juicy hops are bright and original without much bitterness although the brassy character was a bit off.

A: Pours a dark amber color with some vibrance and solid one finger of off white head. The head fell but kept some foam around. Some lace.

S: Lots of citrus with grapefruit leading the way. Taking some time with this beer reveals some pine and herbal aromas along with multi-grain cracker.

T: Hops come on strong and hold all the way through with grapefruit, pineapple and citrus. There is a lot of herbal spiciness. In the mid swig I get the sensation of malt with toasted multi grain bread and roasted grain but then its back to all about the hops. The end comes with a bitter bite that smacks of pine and herbal flavors.

M: Just right for the beer: medium with a slight bit of chew and syrupy.

O: I feel like this beer is better than my rating but thats just how it came out. Its a big juicy hop bomb that delivers on what you want out of a DIPA.

Came across a bottle of this double IPA.
Pours to a bright orange color with a small foam head.
Smell of citrus fruity notes are not that strong.
Taste is definitely of a double IPA. Notes of concentrated grapefruit come across the initial feel for this beer.
Being a well crafted beer it doesn't leave an over bittering feel on the pallate. Can definitely drink several bottles of this beer.
