Pours a dark gold with a very small wispy white head.

Smells of tropical fruits maybe a little citrus and pine. The smell is pretty one dimensional.

Tastes of pine upfront with some bitterness. A little bit of malt through the middle finishing with a deep bitterness.

Mouthfeel is a little light for the style. Doesn't feel like there is much here.

Overall not a great beer. SD has much better to offer.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy golden orange with a medium creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is piney, dank, oniony hops.

The flavor is sweet bready malts with a a big piney, resiny hop finish. There's a little onion but not as much as expected from the nose. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, a decent IPA. It has good bitterness but a bit of onion.

A: Pours a very clear dark straw color, with about a 1/4 to 1/2 finger of white, medium sized bubbles. The head dissipates quickly into a fine film that covers about three quarters of the surface. It leaves very little lacing on my chilled glass.

S: Lots of grapefruit sour and bready malts. This is smells quite big.

T: Does not taste nearly as big as it smells. It does have a (mild) grapefruit start, and a bready middle, followed by a mild+/moderate hop finish, but the taste is no where near as intense as the smell. No boozy taste at all, which I wouldn't expect from a 6.8% abv.

M: Medium-/Medium body, a little quicker and slicker, but maybe that's because I drink a lot of DIPAs. Carbonation is just shy of average, but still fits the style. Unlike most DIPAs, I could probably drink two or three fo these before my tongue cries uncle.

O: My biggest complaint with this beer is I wish it delivered on that great smell. Lots of things going for this beer, but I'd like to see the taste kicked up a few notches. Good brew, but it's only going to tease your sour/sweet/malty/bitter buds. :-)

a whole lot better than the shipwrecked imperial, regardless of ratings. this pours nice and light, like a Molson golden, with zesty rising carbonation accumulating into just a quarter inch of light white head. good lacing. the nose is lighter than expected for a beer that claims to use centennial hops. its balanced by pale but fuller flavored malt, and the hops are a little fruity, but still nice and bitter. orange and flowery, very springtime as an ipa, not super bitter, but crisp enough to be refreshing. light enough to be majorly drinkable, no creativity on the malt, its very straightforward. full enough to let the hips shine through, but thin and clean enough to drink easily. excellent carbonation. in some ways this beer is better than its ratings, its got a sturdy abv, its pleasurably drinkable, and packs hops in without being filling at all. a nice release for summer time, and coming in under 10 bucks a sixer, its something I will probably come back to again.

Appearance - yellow gold on the pour, a thin sticky manila head with lace like glue.

Aroma - grainy, very little hop presence.

Taste - grains open up reminding me of malt liquor, but low on sweetness. The hops aren't really citrusy, their bitter side is notable but lacking in depth and character. The malts continue to have presence with some husky flavor after the swallow. For what it's worth, the beer has good balance but that may be due to lack of hop oomph. A touch of citrus will emerge if you let this warm up a bit, but it's hit or miss.

Mouthfeel - crisp with a medium body, pretty much right where I like 'em.

Overall - I finished the sixer over a two week period, but liked it less as I went along. It's okay for a session beer but both the malt and hop sides come across a little lighter than I hoped.
