Had this on 2012-10-09 in Normal, IL at the brew pub.
A - Opaque black with a 1-finger brown, foamy head and great lacing. Gorgeous.
S - Medium roasted grain, some chocolate. Not very strong.
T - Rich roasted malt and dark chocolate. Not too sweet! Touch of char. Some citrus to clean the palate.
M - Medium body and carbonation. Prickly, sharp/stinging in a nice way.
O - Reminds me of a Founders Porter with a bit less char. Silver winner at the 2011 World Beer Cup.

Pints on tap at the brewpub. This review is from notes.
I asked the bartender which of the house beers he'd consider the establishment's flagship. He said, "people who like dark beers usually like the stout, and people who like hoppier beers usually like the pale." Quite helpful.
So I went for the stout. It was billed as a straight American but smelled very dry, with a burst of spicy hops blending nicely against dark, roasted barley.
It didn't taste as good as it smelled, although nothing was really off about it. Started off with bitter, roasted malts and then those malts are quickly overtaken by a rush of dry hops that doesn't abate until the beer is swallowed. The hops didn't taste particularly American, but I didn't bother to ask the bartender what kind they used. The menu promised nodes of chocolate and citrus hop bitterness, but those didn't materialize. Also, the back end was a little thin.

Had this both on tap and from a beer engine. The beer engine version was dry hopped with cascade. Did 4 oz taster pours.
A- rather subdued roast some coffee. A vanilla note as well. The cask version did have some citrus notes as well.
A- pitch black. No appreciable haze. Thin beige head.
F- it's easier to say what it's not. No harshness, astringency or biting bitterness. What you are left with is coffee some chocolate and vanilla.
M- dry but with plenty of body. The cask version was appropriately low carbonation. The draft version was still on the low side but nicely set up for the style.
O- A great and drinkable stout. Interesting flavors with any astringency or harshness. This is an approachable beer for a newbie but complex and interesting for a beer nerd

On-tap at Desthil Bloomington.
A - Pours black, tan-colored head, spotty lace, thin collar. wisps.
S - Chocolate, light roast, light coffee, roasted nuts. All very light and subtle, straightforward. Super easy to drink and really perfect for the style...very nice.
T - Simliar to the nose. Chocolate, roast, touch of coffee, nuts, some toffee. All those notes work well together and it's just as expected for the style.
M - Medium, good carbonation, smooth, creamy finish.
O - I really enjoyed this beer...really well done and something I would continue to drink when I'm at the brewery. Looking forward to trying more from Destihl!
