Pours a clear brown color with a foamy. light brown, dull head. Falls to almost nothing. Thin lacing.
Has a big malty nose with hops present.
Malty brew with obvious malts present. Some weird spice in there too that I cannot put my tongue on. Kind of tangy.
Medium bodied in the mouth with moderate carbonation.
Final flavor did not agree with me. Guess overall I don't like it.

A - The pour is very watery, it even sounds water-like. The head is a nice medium brown color and starts out at about an eighth of an inch tall but it fades very fast to light wisp at the surface. The body is dark brown and somewhat transparent.
S - The brew has a nice malt aroma accented by a sweet chocolate note.
T - The flavor starts out malty and moves to a hop filled middle. The hops are not overwhelming but are noticeable. There seems to be little complexity in the flavor but I think that can be attributed to the texture.
M - The feel, like the look is very watery. There is no coarse texture at all, which on one hand isn't too bad because it goes down soft. However, there's little abrasion to assist in bringing out any truely unique flavors that may be hidden. I has a flat feel to it.
~ This is not a beer I will recommend to my friends. Mainly because of the feel. The flavor is okay and I do like the scent but this is not something I really care for.

A-Started pouring slowly into an oversized snifter, no head, so I poured violently, and only succeeded in producing a half-cm head that quickly faded. Brew is a dark brown-amber w/a tinge of red.
S-Sweet malt, light hops, grapefruit, coffee, and a bouquet of various stewed fruits.
T-Rich slightly sweet malt, a hint of carob, light stewed apple, coffee, deeply-steeped black tea, and a pleasant bitter hop finish w/faint grapefruit rind and roast coffee finish. Aftertaste is bitter coffee and malt, and is quite pleasant.
M-Despite a complete lack of head, there is a sharp bite of carbonation up-front, but it fades midway. Still, this brew is well-balanced, and the bitter roasted malt and hops even out the sweetness very nicely. If this bottle had more carbonation, this would be an excellent brew. I'll pretend I'm drinking an excellent brew that's been sitting in the glass too long.
D-Complex, tasty, and very easy to drink. I would definitely buy again in the future. This was interesting and unique. I am quite sure this is from a different batch than the review below, since the malt character is well-defined in this sample, but it's enjoyable to follow the evolution of this micro.

Presentation: Dark brown bottle with a black cap and a blue label featuring a Simpsonesque polish grandpa belly flopping.
Brewer's Description: This alt-ternative brown lager is assertively hopped, yet smooth as silk. Opi grays the line between a Dusseldorf Alt and a Brown. It's as free-style as Opi's flop, yet less painful. Enjoy!
Appearance: Gorgeous deep amber red. Totally translucent with a steady skim of bubbly white froth.
Aroma: Apples. Loads of apples. Mostly green skin but with some rotten, sweet funk too. Very strange. Is this a cider?
Taste: Mildly odd and funky apple flavor with a strong, tea like bitter hop finish. Very odd and unclassifiable.
Mouthfeel: On the lightside. Balanced.
Drinkability: Hmm... I am at once attracted to the different and funky aroma but turned off by the od contrast between rotten apple and over seeped tea flavors. At the end of the day, this is not very drinkable.
This beer doesn't fit a style, so it is very hard to rate but ultimately I found too many flaws with it. The malt is not pronounced enough. The apple flavors are too strong and off putting, and ultimately (and most importantly) the hop profile fits like a day old cup of tea. This is an interesting attempt but just plain off. Perhaps a future batch will turn out better.
Note on style...this is a lager but I am listing it as an American Brown Ale since (much like Surly's weird beers)...well...I don't know what the hell to call this odd concoction.
