Finally took a short trip to visit this place. I've heard good things and it's definitely a great place. It's a pretty big store. The craft beer is in the middle to the back of the store. Tons of options. They carry pretty much everything that distributes to NE Ohio. Lots of nice bombers too. There was alot of new stuff mixed w/ some stuff that were older (which is ok in some cases). They have singles of all the beers they sell, which is always a plus, and they don't mark up. You will definitely leave satisfied.
This is a great place, the only problem for me is that I'm from the eastside. But if you're in the area, this is an absolute must.

Had read the reviews for this place on BA, but had never been, when I found myself in the area for work and decided to stop in and have a look around lunchtime. Liquor is in the front and is cash only, but the real treasure is in the back, a wide variety of American craft as well as Imports from England, Europe and around the world. Which is a treat as I feel American craft is spreading so fast and having such an impact that imports are fighting for shelf space with only the BIG name foreign stuff getting through. 1st time I have ever seen Aventinus available in a four pack, my heart nearly stopped. Good selection in the cooler, but an even bigger selection on the shelf, so much in fact that I was a bit overwhelmed by the variety and spent an hour putting together 2 mixed sixers. This was my main reason for stopping in was mixing a couple sixers as the variety had dwindled in the beer fringe, and the hunt for good brew must go on. Southland Beverage has definitely put it's self on my beer buying map.

Southland Beverage is located near the Southland shopping center in one of the busiest areas of Middleburg Heights. Finding and accessing the store should be a breeze for those unfamiliar with the area as it is located on the corner of two of the biggest streets in the city (Smith and Pearl) and is not that far from the highway. Parking is never a problem no matter the time of day as the parking lot is huge.
The store itself is rather typical with beer being located at the rear of the store past the wine and liquor. Large metal shelving is used to keep all the beers on the floor organized and reachable. The very back wall of the store is coolers filled with BMC products and the most typically purchased craft beer (Sierra Nevada, Great Lakes, Sam Adams, etc.) All of the beers available in six-packs are also individually prized. All of them.
The selection is fantastic with practically every craft beer distributed in the area being available. Ithica, Heavy Seas, Sierra Nevada, Dark Horse, etc. Even local beers that don't sell well (Cellar Rats, Black Box, Crooked River, etc.) are usually available. The import selection is also fantastic with everything from Sapporo to Cantillon to Belhaven to Mikkeller.
The only downside with such a great selection is that often beers, especially the cheaper imports, are out-dated. It is not uncommon to find beer on the shelves expired many months prior. This also leads to a good amount of dust being noticeable on beers that don't move quickly.
The prices are usually average with other local stores or better. Don't expect to find fantastic deals but often their singles can be a little cheaper than their competitors'.
Sometimes upon entering the store, you will be greeted, but don't count on it. As you shop don't expect employees to offer help or strike up a conversation no matter how long you are perusing. The checkout is usually quick and painless but sometimes the workers can be distracted with personal phone calls or friendly banter with other patrons.

Greatly exaggerated score on the store, beer is in the back, its not as organized as I would like equiring much reaching to the lowr shelves and floor for American micros. A few high raters, but mostly the standard stuff. However a couple of points for stocking some regular O'Fallons and the like. Prices are good, but not as good on the mediocre important offerings to be competitive. Long lineup to pay, it was ineffiient as they had to call out codes to pay - how about bar scanning? This place is maturing, and good but far from the best beer stores in Cleveland.

Hot damn, I love the Places feature on BA...wouldn't have found this place otherwise. And what else can I do but echo the sentiments of the other reviews - this place is good. This place is really good. We visited Southland on 6/17/11. And then again on 6/18 - just too damn tempting not to!
Great selection of sixers (and 4 pks) and bombers, plus they do singles. I scored some Plead the Fifth - which I hadn't seen in Chicago for several months - plus a single of Double Crooked Tree, which I've been wanting to revisit. My brother asked about Flower Power, an the manager got some from the back, as it had just come in that day. Just a great overall experience!

I work nearby, so this place has become a regular stop on my way home. Nice selection of craft beer, although a lot of it seems to linger on the shelves for a long, long time. I guess I shouldnt complain though because this has actually worked out in my favor multiple times with limited release stuff. They have an excellent selection of imports as well, and carry a decent selection of mikeller beers. As mentioned by another BA, everything is available as a single bottle, with no mark up, which is nice. As a whole, the staff isnt too knowledgable about beer, but they make up for it in friendliness. I'd recommend stopping by if you are in the area, especially if you are looking for something that your local bottle shop sold out of. If you are coming from out of state, they have an excellent selection of northeast ohio brews, and also one of the best selections of bells and dogfish head. just keep an eye out on freshness. cheers.

My favorite bottle shop in Northeast Ohio; I have also recommended it to many friends.
I live 45 minutes away, but I stop here anytime I'm in the area, especially after hitting up The Brew Kettle.
Great selection, great prices, one can buy any beer as a single, and they have no mark-up for a single beer (when compared to the 4 or 6 pack price).
They have almost anything you can legally get in Ohio, aside from what isn't distributed to Northeast Ohio.
The staff is friendly and helpful too; every time I've been in there, at least one person has fairly good knowledge of beer and can very well recommend beers to you, if you want. Even their customers are often quite helpful and friendly.

I stopped by this store while visiting a buddy in Cleveland. Wow. This place has quality craft brews covered. They have Lagunitas, rarer DFH, GI bombers, Troegs, a bunch of exports that I'd never even seen before. I was like a kid in a candy store. I was able to buy a couple Bitches Brew for only 8.99 each, $4 cheaper than in Indiana. Everything was priced much cheaper than what I can find it for around Indy. It has great bang for your buck. I definitely had a good pull from this store. Their selection was excellent and I can't wait to go back.

I finally decided to look over the selection at this praised establishment. Located in what looks to be a decaying strip mall on Cleveland's west side, not too far from the airport.
As you walk in, a huge assortment of liquor bottles takes up the entire field of view, and fills it through nearly the entire depth of the store. You've gotta push through all that to get to the back of the store where beer-land is located.
The display of beer is awe-inspiring. I really appreciated the shelving techniques, sorted by brewery of course but in some cases a brewery will have it's own stand-alone display with all of their beers.
Probably around 500 beers to choose from. If it's available in OH I would guess these guys have it (or had it). One problem is the age of some of the bottles, as mentioned by previous reviewers. I noticed some Ommegang Adoration that was a bit ripe. Also some Belgian bottles with an unsettling amount of dust.
You can take singles from 4-packs or 6-packs, that's not done too often in OH. Big points for that service!
One important note is that they close at 7:30pm on M-W. It seems oddly early to me. You might want to call for the hours before going.

My first stop while exploring the west side of Cleveland. The lofty rating has my hopes up...
First off, my trip seems to have coincided with some sort of town fair which has most of the street closed off. Pretty unassuming from the outside...located in a strip mall with some vacant storefronts nearby.
You enter to a large selection of wine and liquor. The beer is located in the rear of the establishment. There seems to be no real rhyme or reason to how the beer is shelved, aside from imports and domestic. Beer is pretty much everywhere...including the coolers lining the back of the store. You can buy six packs or singles of almost everything they have. They even broke up a four pack of Buried Hatchet for me to buy a single (+1 to the service)!
The selection is pretty vast...second only to VE in Boardman, OH. My only complaint is the same as what others mentioned below...a lot of the bottles appear to be dated.
This was a great way to start off this trip...I probably dropped too much money already...ugh!!
