I was surprised to find this recently at the Mohawk House, in Sparta, NJ. In a 4oz sampling glass, it poured a golden amber, mostly transparent with two fingers of white that retained and laced very well. Modest carbonation. Big herbal, grassy, dry citrus peel, and apple blend in the nose. The flavor was a nice blend of the same, just not as intense, with more malty apple hitting midpalate, after the bitter peel hits you hard at first. Finishes on a dry peel note. Alcohol content was very well hidden. The feel was a very smooth medium, with almost no carbonation. Very pleasantly surprised by this beer, as I hadn't heard too much about it. Tastes like a session beer, but this one's dangerous. My only beef with this beer is that while the flavor was a nice blend, the taste was nowhere near as intense as the nose.

A: This poured a clear gold with some white head.
S: It smelled like orange and sugary grapefruit and candied apricot, with some caramel and honey wheat bread.
T: It tasted like juicy orange and sweet candied apricot, with some caramel and copper and honey wheat bread. It had a somewhat clean, sweet and hot aftertaste with some bitterness.
M: It was fairly thick with moderate carbonation. Nice full body.
D: This was more like an American barleywine with substantial malt, than a double IPA. The scent and taste and body were all nice. The finish wasn't very smooth though, so it was better to sip. It might actually age really well, and help mellow out the alcohol. Fresh, it was decent but not great.

12oz bottle poured into Jackie O's snifter. Thanks Mike (stmgl01) for this one!
No bottle date that I see.
A- Pours a Translucent brownish golden with a fairly thin white head that leaves some light spotty lacing. Decent consistent rising carbonation.
S- Fairly malty, a hint of booze although not bad for 11.5%, some light earthy hops that are balanced with the malts. Not overly aromatic and not overly interesting.
T- Light earthy hops balanced with light sweet malts, a hint of caramel sweetness, a little bit of a booze bite on the finish with light earthy greeny hops. Abv could have been dialed down a bit and a little bit more hops added. Overall not bad though for a very high abv IPA.
M- Medium bodied, nice carbonation, some light alcohol burn on the finish although to be expected at this abv. Fairly drinkable at 11.5%, but definitely not the most drinkable IPA I've had over 10%.
O- For a high abv "triple" IPA this wasn't a bad beer. I will admit that I like lower abv IPAs a lot more, once they start getting over 9.5% the alcohol (and the malts used to hide it) takes away from the hop presence which is completely true in this beer. If you are looking for an ultra-hoppy IPA this beer isn't for you. However if you want a beer that is decently balanced between hops vs. malts, high abv, and a little bit more on the sweeter side then citrus then this is more for you.
