My second try of the Gayle's Pale (named after Gayle Goschie of Goschie Farms, a hop farm south of Portland) this Fall/'Fresh Hop Season'...a pint at Concordia Ale House this time.
A: Aptly 'copper', a clean and shiny pale with fine clarity and little visible carbonation. Head is a dusting of ivory, very short as served - some fraction of an inch I won't dare measure. A smattering of lace in fragmented bands.
S: More doughy malt than anything, dry and grain-filled aroma. The 'fresh-hopped' flair underwhelms a bit, providing little more than brief whiffs of something green and leafy.
T: Caramel + honeyed Graham cracker + plenty of herbs and cut grass and a sly finishing spicy zing. Spice will last, pepper and bitter greens, the tongue curls a little and salivates. Fine balance.
M: Remarkable smoothness - not quite cask-like, but definitely on the milder side, fizz-wise. A growing 'medium' build, a spiced dryness resting comfortably on the back of the tongue.
D: Plenty drinkable, with a subtle hoppiness that taps on the shoulder rather than bludgeons over the head. Pleasing, fresh and flavorful. A sipper that again shows off HUB's mad skillz.

On-tap at Hopworks in a half pint glass. My first fresh hop beer of the season.
appearance - golden/amber with good head, some retention, minor lacing
smell - hops were fainter than i expected, not much hop aroma for a fresh hop
taste - hop forward with a noticeable malt backbone that balanced out the profile, hop bitterness, earthy and resinous
mouthfeel - medium body, high carbonation, tingly, slightly dry finish
drinkability - flavorful and tasty, mostly fresh although i like my face to be blown off, not bad

My first beer at hub, had their stuff before, me likee. This is their fresh hop. First thing I noticed after the appearance that looks identical to snpa, was the aroma was lacking, especially for a fresh hop.
Essentially, neither the aroma nor the taste give off the desired amount of hop character. Tastes like cascades, but not necessarily fresh or wet ones. This is a good pale, but it just lacks a fresh hop feel to it.
Bitter enough, right about 50 ibus.
