First had: on tap at HUB, Portland, OR

Poured a hazy golden-yellow with a small white head. Fruity aroma, citrusy, various hop profiles. Pine and grapefruity hops in the taste, grassy, with a solid bready malt base. Crisp and dry in the finish. Light-medium body. Solid, drinkable IPA overall.

Had on-tap at HUB in Portland, OR. Poured a yellow/orange color with a very thin off-white head that left very spotty lacing. Aroma was floral/earthy hops, citrusy hops, grass and a slight malt sweetness. Taste followed the nose though I also noticed a bit of grainy flavor in there.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes dry from the bitter hops. VERY interesting/complex yet well-balanced IPA. Enjoyable for sure!

Clear golden colour with a smooth but short-lasted white head. Great lacing.

Bright and floral hop aroma with a grapefruity edge. Nice.

Mild malt with a big dose of bitey hops. Very citrussy and a touch floral. Good grassy finish.

Medium body with moderately-high carbonation. Fine.

A solid IPA with really nice hop flavour. Not lacking in anything.

On tap at Hopworks, poured into a Hopworks mug.

A - Pours a dark, but clear orange with a nice white head that fades slowly. It leaves lacing streaks down the glass.

S - Citrusy, pine, slightly sweet.

T - Taste is a nice Malty, and hoppy balance. Lots of grass and pine. Finishes with some citrus bitterness.

D - Good Carbonation, average body.

O - A solid IPA.

Pours a clear, dark golden amber; didn’t get much of a head, but this was a glass that had sat out for a bit. Aroma is seriously hoppy with a strong grapefruit undertone. Hoppy, piny flavor has a hint of sour citrus, mainly grapefruit with a touch of orange. Mouthfeel is fairly smooth and farly fizzy, and hoppy, grapefruit finish is slightly bitter.

Great looking IPA. Bright colour, hazy, with a neat cascading type action leading to a rich, thick head and tons of lacing.

Sweet bready malts and a floral pine hop that makes you want to drink some immediately.

some malt sweetness that quickly gets washed aside by waves of citrus and pine malts. Some malt attempts to break through in the finish along with a slight soapiness. finish is still bitter and slightly sticky.

full, slick, and slighty oily

Nice IPA, well balanced and very drinkable

On tap at the brewpub.

A - This beer pours a brilliant medium golden-orange. It's clear and produces an inch of white head. As the head recedes it leaves some nice lacing.

S - The aroma seemed to be a little muted. The most prominent smell was citrus, but there was also a very light caramel in the background.

M - Light to medium in body with nice crisp carbonation. Just about perfect for the style.

T - The taste is a delicious concoction of orange and piny hops. Throughout this beer there are hints of pale and caramel malts. It finishes with a medium bitterness that lasts into the aftertaste.

This is a very delicious IPA. It's got great North West hops flavor and isn't too bitter to be enjoyable. Give this one a try.

From the mother's teat in Portland at the Hopworks Brewery.

Clean gold appearance without too much head. Slightly more CO2 than many IPA's, which gives it a clean mouthfeel to match the appearance. Hops with citrus fruits and forest pine. Tastes like the Great Northwest should. Crisp and refreshing, yet still captures the weightiness of an IPA exceptionally well.

The hops won't knock you over, but blend well with the fruits and woodiness. Super well balanced. Great brew.

On tap at Henry's 12th Street Tavern in Portland. Poured into a pint glass. Unsure about abv. Notes taken from my phone.

A-Pours a clear light orange with a small off white head that gradually rests at a filmy layer. It leaves awesome lace in between sips.

S-Lots of fresh citrus hops. It smells like a lighter version of Sculpin. There is also pine. It becomes more grapefruity as it warms.

T-The citrus and pine dominate the flavor. There is a little sweet malt in the middle and finish that gives way to more citrus and pine.

M-Medium bodied with a nice crisp level of carbonation.

D-A really good IPA. It is not heavy and is a great thirst quencher.

This was my favorite beer from my PDX trip. I picked up a few bottles and am curious to see how they compare to the tap version.

From notes. Pale golden, clear, good head and retention, thick lacing. SMELL is More malty sweet than floral/earthy hoppy. TASTE strong sweet and malty base balances well with floral and slightly citrusy hop. Share bitterness in teh middle fades into mostly clean finish. FEEL overly fizzy/tingly detracts from otherwise pleasant texture, medium body, bit of lingering bitterness. OVERALL very tasty, feels a bit fuller than size would indicate. Sessionable.

Pint from the source at the end of our first day in Portland, reviewed from notes on my cellphone, golden orange color with some red tint, 3/4 inch slightly off white head with retention, some lacing, aroma consists of grapefruit, floral accents with a lot of dandelions, herbal accents, toffee, citrus, and pineapple, flavor is full of floral accents, some neutral malt in the middle with lots of toffee, finish has a large amount of hoppiness with more citrusy fruits than pine or anything, goes from floral to orange peel, nice rounded hop flavor nicely balanced too, dry, citrusy and floral mouthfeel, moderatate level carbonation, medium bodied, could drink a lot of this stuff, taste is a little on the weak side for a west coast IPA but that is not necessarily a bad thing, no alcohol in the flavor, pretty refreshing after nearly a two mile walk here, would like to drink again which is why it is a good thing I have a few bottles in the fridge, recommended

A - Light copper in color with a frothy off-white head. Very clear and clean. Head foams to about 2 fingers and slowly fades leaving behind some light lacing. Settles to a thin foam cap.

S - Big bold hop aroma right off. Lots of citrus aromas with grapefruit and tangerine coming to mind. Even a little pine mixed in. A little sweet bread aroma lingers underneath. Big hop punch to the nose though.

T - Wow, possibly the best tasting regular IPA I have had. Big citrusy hops with just the faintest bit of sweetness. Great hop taste without the astringent bitterness that keeps good IPA's from being great. Dont get me worng, there is plenty of bitterness in this beer, just not the rough un-good (yes, that is a word) kind.

M/D - Feel was a touch light but still closer to medium than light bodied. Excellent carbonation and very easy drinking.

This was my first beer on my weeklong Oregon beer adventure, and what a way to start things off. Great IPA here.

On-tap today for lunch, paired w/ their scratch and black bean veggie burger which was delicious...

- Golden orange.. not cloudy really.. but a slight haze. Great white lacing... minimal head.. they must pour very well..

- Great caramel sweetness with a citrus, pine, and bitter hop scent.. lives up to their stated IBU's just in scent as well as in...

- ...flavor, great hop aroma.. natural citrus, pine, and sweetness.. roasty flavorful malt.. very well balanced. A must have IPA if in Portland.

- Oily mouthfeel.. slightly dry, but overall very good.

- This would almost be a perfect IPA if it wasn't so bubbly... the carbonation is just a bit excessive for me.. as I tend to like undercarbonated west coast IPAs... but it is still very drinkable based on its great flavor alone.

Enjoyed this at the Concordia Ale House in Portland, OR

Nice IPA.

Ordered a pint which came with a scant finger of head on top of the hazy orange/amber colored beer. Some brown tones to the color. Slight lazy carbonation making it's way to the top.
Aroma was bright, fresh and very appealing. Certainly citrus, some floral notes and almost some dough notes. If that makes sense...

Flavor was smooth, well balanced and very nice. Initial Hop bang that mellows to a bread flavor. This is quickly followed by some grapefruit notes and a some nice grain/malt flavors. After this the lingering hop bitterness comes back to stay a while.

The mouth feel is medium bodied and the carbonation is bright. There is a little moment of dryness before the hops bitterness takes over at the end.

I find this inviting and drinkable. A nice effort.

Service Temp. 35 degrees Farenheit. Service Glassware, 4oz Taster Shot.

Peering into this between the condensation that forms and the sunny sky outside I spot a dark straw & clear complexion. The draft pours a mild white foam, with a cob web of lace that is left behind.
A waft under the nose, is sharp and dry with an expected pine tree of hops and some minor grapefruit.
Sipped the familiar initial pine hops recede to reveal the biscuit and caramel only to be revisited by the hops previously mentioned.
Mouthfeel is medium and lingers.

Had this one with a chicken sandwich.

Cheers

I have had the pleasure of enjoying this beer for the past year or so, ever since it's debut at the North American Organic Brewers Festival. Now that the brewpub is open, I get to enjoy HUB IPA with fair regularity.

Hopworks IPA is one of my favorite Northwest-style IPAs. Its balance of citrus aroma to hop bitterness contrasts beautifully with the malty goodness of organic pilsner base malt. As they do with all of their beers, they are able to turn a organic pils malt with some other organic specialty malts into a surprisingly flavorful and complex beer.

This is definitely a go-to beer when you're in the Portland area. Also, congratulations to Hopworks Urban Brewing (HUB) for winning the 2008 Gold Medal at the World Beer Cup for American-Style Strong Pale Ale with this beer; bravo!

Big light off white head settles into a nice lacing above a clear copper-bronze colored beer.

Citrus, pine, and fresh grass hops aroma that seems to be on the lighter side.

Nice hops taste that is not overwhelming but definitely there with some citrus, some pine aspects and a little bit of fresh grass attributes, giving this IPA a pleasant IPA taste.

A dry slightly bitter hops taste aspect to the aftertaste of this medium bodied beer.

A decent beer definitely worth a try if you are into IPA's or the Portland beer scene.

A: A hazy deep almost mustard yellow body with a one finger head that quickly dissipates.

S: Very bready and malty in the front of the beer with some dank bitterness in the back.

T: There is a sharp bitterness in the front. There is some citrus flavors in the hop character but the best way I can describe it is grass-like. The malt is very mild and has very subtle caramel qualities to it.

M: Good body with maybe too much carbonation.

O: It is an average IPA. Nothing special here.

Pours dark amber with a large, white head.
Aroma of orange marmalade, peaches, rich sweet malt, resinous hops and pepper. Nice.
More resinous hops as a flavour, along with loads of sweet crystal malt and orange marmalade.
Good stuff, damn enjoyable.

Poured into a snifter. My good friend SatlyMalty surprised me with this one. Bottom of can has an unreadable freshness date but I see a 13 so it must be from this year.

A- Pours a medium amber color with a 3/4 inch off-white head that retains nicely before slowly relinquishing to a thick ring around the edge of the glass and plentiful surface foam. Clots of semi-resilient lacing slide down the glass when I swirl.

S- Piney aroma that's fresh and effervescent as the carbonation puts off great hop fumes. A faint bit of caramel-like malt is detected beneath. Musty and earthy.

T- Mostly vegetal hop flavor that brings to mind celery, broccoli and arugula. Bitterness is mild and balanced on the malt base. Alcohol is very toned down allowing for lots of quaffing.

M- Smooth and pretty crisp with medium carbonation and a body on the lighter side.

O- I like Hopworks, but man do they dig the earthy types of hops, mainly cascade. I guess I just want more variety since the only other beer of theirs I've had was their Double Dry Hop IPX - Cascade. This is a very sessionable IPA, as was the other so I guess I'm just dying to see what they can do with a DIPA.

First Review! Poured bottle into my pint glass...

A - Light golden color with white head about 2 fingers

S - Citrus ,pine

T - The taste kind of surprised me. Very crisp, clean, easy to drink as if it was brewed with spring water. Must be where the organic comes from.

M - Light, not overwhelmingly bitter

O - I like my IPA's with a little more ABV, but great non the less. Could drink all day in the summer.

The HUB IPA fills my glass with copper clarity, evident carbonation, and impressive eggnog head. It smells leafy and then fruity. Peach scents are strong and berries come in underneath. Caramel and amber malts make up the mash, as far as my nose can tell. Needly bitterness dominates the highly fizzy mouth experience. Oily hops don't leave the roof as quickly as the liquid is swallowed. This is a little citric but less so than I expected and remembered from previous encounter with this beer. The taste suggests pale and pilsner malts as well, with very little sweetness other than that of the fruitiness. Apricots and underripe tropical fruits give this kick-ass taste-bud destroyer a bit of softness and some quality flavor. The lacing on my glass is not great but my dad had the other half of this 22-ouncer and his glass had magnificent foam rings up and down the sides. This one goes down smooth and need not be downed quickly. Quaff at a leisurely pace and enjoy every sip, gulp, slug, chug, and mouthful.

HUB IPA is super bitter but surprisingly pleasing because of the fruit tastes, presumably thanks to the yeast strain, and also owing to a malty character that stand far from center stage yet mellows the hops considerably.
