Served on-tap in a clear glass mini-nonic at Blue Mountain Brewery (Afton, VA).
A: Bright amber with a tight cap of off-white head with decent retention and a few spots of lace.
S: The bourbon character is dominant but not overbearing with vanilla and spicy alcoholic notes but a very honey-like sweet maltiness still pervades. There is not much if any fruitiness -- this is a fine doppel-tripelbock hybrid with a superb twist.
T: The flavor is not quite as fun as the nose, but it still has plenty of spunk. The bourbon notes are by far the most powerful, providing a lot of vanilla and coconut whiskey character. The background beer is a little overstaged but it still provides a substantial toffee presence.
M: This is a beer that drinks way easier than its ABV -- the honeylike character translates to a slick, easy-drinking quality despite the big bourbon.
O: I was really surprised by this beer -- it drinks very much like a lager but has a ton of bourbon whiskey character in a tasty, toffee and honey doppelbock. Great beer.

A blend of BMBs Hibernator Doppelbock and their Long Winter's Nap Triplebock aged for 100 days in bourbon barrels. 10% abv. Served in a 10 oz. nonic.
Appearance: A darker than expected copper auburn, about halfway between the hues of the Hibernator and the LWN, unsurprisingly. Head retention is understandably poor, but the hue is bright, clear, and vivid. Minimal carbonation is visible around the edges, doing little to maintain the slight soapy ring of tan head, which in turn leaves only sparse dollops of stringy, moist, shiny lace around the nonic edges.
Aroma: A vanilla bomb in the nose, but cut with a slew of caramel and dark toffee. Slight medicinal phenols mingle with woody esters and wisps of cinnamon and coconut above the malts, but the real stars are the shiny vanilla and the smooth, earthy, sweet bourbon.
Taste: Straight, sweet vanilla-spiked bourbon. A slightly roasted, slightly honey-like malty base permeates this one, providing a really great foundation for a slew of esters and barrel notes. Floral notes mingle with green oak, and bright vanilla isn't too far ahead of an absolute slew of smooth, slightly spicy bourbon. If bourbon isn't your thing, you should pass. But if it is ... delightful.
Mouthfeel: A little heavy and admittedly fat - just like both the base beers were even prior to their time in captivity - but with the sweetness being cut ever so slightly, I think this probably works a little better than both do. Smooth, crisp, level but subtle carbonation makes for a mouth that prevents anything from being cloying without enhancing any of the prickliness of the spirit addition.
Drinkability: A fantastic beer. Keep tossing stuff in bourbon barrels, BMB - this one hits the mark. As I mentioned above, if you don't like bourbon, it may not be your thing. But it's more ... if you don't like the "essence" of bourbon, this may not be your thing. Because this beer isn't hot, raw, or spicy - instead, the bourbon comes across as smooth, sweet, and earthy, largely the result of the strength of the base beer and the expert craftsmanship of BMB. Delicious and surprisingly quaffable at 10.0% abv, kudos to Taylor and the crew - keep up the good work.
