Notes:
Oasis is a Double ESB/IPAish beer that came about from playing around with one of Jeff’s favorite homebrew recipes. Here at Tallgrass we love malt and we love hops, and this beer has both of them in record quantities; well, at least records for our baby brewery.
At a hefty 7.2% ABV and 93 IBU, Oasis is a big beer that has to be priced a bit higher than our regular line of beers. We think that once you taste the over-the-top hops and surprisingly sturdy malt backbone you will realize why it’s worth it.
Definitely not a fruit-extract seasonal shandy, this beer is meant to be enjoyed on the back porch, the front porch, or even on the stoop. What's a stoop? Well, it's a good place to drink beer, is what it is.

Wow!
This was not what you expect from an Imperial IPA, but then again it is a cross breed
Appearance: Amber to light brown
Smell: hemp, hop, pine, and mineral
Taste: hemp, hop, pine, with a hop/mineral finish!
Mouthfeel: Thick, typical for the style.
Overall, this is a good beer. I'd try it from the bottle.

A-Served in a pint glass, this brew is clear and color is light brown with brilliant red highlights. A tight finger of tan head tht leaves a thick lacing on the glass.
S-Really nice aromas of citrus (zesty orange with hints of pine and earthy grass. Nice clean toasted, slightly sweet barley malt.
T-Hops dominate with more of the bittering variety then aromatic which is dissapointing for my taste buds. The malt is quite significant but those bitter hops overshadow and overwhelm the palate.
M-Resiny hops are quite sticky and overwhelming everything else, otherwise medium bodied with medium/high carbonation.
O-Very nice appearance and I really like the aroma but the bitterness are just too much for this guy.

Pretty good beer. Served at a good temperature with a nice light tan with golden highlights, foamy head that slowly settles and lots of lace. Color is a very slightly hazy orange honey amber. Aroma is hops, dry deciduous twigs, used leather, malt, toffee, hint of butterscothch. Flavor’s much like nose and has fairly decent balance for this style of beer which is hop on top (:-}) bitter, then a little malt sweet and carbonic tang to round out. Body is good with bitterness dominating the full mouth and good carbonation. Finish is like flavor, long, and leaves me able to have a couple more.

served from the tap, in a standard shaker pint glass.
appears a hazy orangish copper color with white head. decent head retention and lacing. aroma is hoppy, mix of piney and citrus notes. taste is a good balance of toasted malt and hops. not too bitter, earthy and citrus flavors. medium body and carbonation, works well for the beer.
overall - a solid IPA. not sure I would group it in with "double" IPAs, but a good beer.

on tap at the local watering hole
Ap- a rich dark amber color that is a little bit hazy. tanish head with pretty good retention
Ar- roasted malts with a bit a caramel sweetness. not very hoppy for a DIPA.
T- Roasty malts with some sweetness. Not hoppy at all for a DIPA. Very smooth though and good balance.
M- medium body and decent carbonation
O- a great beer but it doesn't really represent a DIPA very well. I would say it is a lot more like an ESB than a DIPA.

Served in a 24-ounce weizen glass at Wild Wings Cafe in Charlottesville. From notes. Reviewed 28 June 2011.
A: Good white head with less than moderate retention. Clearish brown-amber, with great reddish hues. Great lacing.
S: Hops and strong citrus. A bit vegetal, but niceish. There is also a dishwater scent, though I suppose this could be the glass.
T: Good! Strongish, with a vaguely sweet endtaste. Otherwise, bitterish and zesty, though not precisely *hoppy*...
M: Lightly carbonated, well-bodied, and generally good.
O: Interesting beer, tasty and fun, but somehow lackluster. I might have it again; I might not recommend it.

On tap at the Blue Door in St. Paul. IPA should go well with Blue Door blucys. What doesn't go well with Blue Door blucys?
To cut to the chase, this is an average beer through and through. Pours an amber/orange, with negligible froth on top. Smell is a decent blend of malt and hops. They certainly don't shy away from the hops, but in terms of taste, this is not near agressive enough to measure against Double IPAs. Pleasant enough, and really not a bad beer at all. Sure, I recommend it, but it did very little for me on the memorability test.

As noted in the description, this beer really fell in between the two styles of imperial IPA and ESB. I find that to be great. A beer that doesn't necessarily have a definitive style, but still has direction, and that is accomplished with Oasis. The malts are nicely pronounced but balanced, a warm and slightly toasted dark rye-ish palate with a tad of buttery sweetness and well-rounded fruitiness, so much so that I can't pinpoint a type of fruit. Grapefruit? Nah. Apple or apricot? Not at all. Papaya? Possibly. Whatever the fruitiness is it leans more towards tropical, but once again this is a balanced beer, nothing to be off-putting.
I saw a lot of reviews described the hoppiness as "grassy," and I too thought this myself upon tasting it. But I had to ask myself if this was a manifestation of my subconscious and the name of the brewery being "Tallgrass." Who knows? It was great though and had a distinctly pronounced bitterness (but not overpowering or even dominant). Sharp astringent alcohol finish.
The mouthfeel is well carbonated, medium bodied, a tad bit creamy while refreshing.
Great beer. I want more.

This beer pours a hazy amber color with a thin film of white head that clings to the glass. The aroma is strong of flowery hops and some maltiness. The flavor starts with a strong malt presence and then finishes bitter. The mouthfeel is fairly harsh and overcarbonated and leaves a strong bitter aftertaste. Overall an ok imperial IPA.

Had in Aggieville on tap at Rockabelly Deli. Brown color, very little head or carbonation. Slight smell of caramel but mostly hops. Tastes of caramel, hops, more hops. If you like hops you will like it. If not, you won't. Lively mouthfeel but too many hops to have more than one.

Pours a hazy, copper color. 2/3 inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of slight pale hops, sweet malt, grain, and floral citrus. Fits the style of an ESB. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp with an average carbonation level. There is also a noticeable bitterness. Tastes of pale hops, slight sweet malt, slight yeast, slight grain, and citrus. Overall, a fresh ESB with the addition of citrus, but average flavors otherwise.

Had this one while passing through Wichita and stopped in at the Oasis bar and grill. According to the website: "Oasis is a bold, rich ESB with 7.2% alcohol and loads of hops brewed to be savored during long summer evenings. Look for its full-fledged release in bottles, kegs, and summer mix packs in the summer of 2010."
Pours a mildly hazy light copper color with a topographous tan foam that sticks to the glass nicely. It's a good looking brew.
Caramely sweet and toasty malts greet the nose with a bit of biscuit in the background. Maybe a few mild hints of floral and grassy hops, but not quite as hoppy as one would expect from an ESB...smells more akin to an amber ale.
The taste is a bit too yeasty and not very 'clean' tasting, especially for the style and there is a touch of sourness as well. Toasty malts are not very assertive but the hops have a fairly firm presence and contribute a medium bitter finish. Alcohol is well disguised and it grows on me a bit as the glass empties. Not bad, but not great either. Worth giving it a try if you are in the Wichita area.

16 oz. can purchased in the greater Washington D.C. area, unknown birthdate, poured into a Weyerbacher tulip glass, drank 4/26/13 over two hours.
A: 2.75 - murky brownish coloration, minimal clarity (can't see or read through), frothy white one finger head dissipates into subtle glass lacing, moderate-to-large alcohol legs that reagitates the carbonation; overall below average for an imperial IPA
S: 2.5 - really herbal and spicy (likely 2/2 British hops for finishing and/or dry hopping), small amount of pear and stone fruit when really putting your nose into the glass
T: 2.5 - on the front of the tongue, there's a mild bitterness that dissipates as the herbal and spicy aspects appear on the back of the tongue; to me, this tastes much more like an ESB than an American imperial IPA
M: 3 - moderate body, boozy and sticky; moderate-to-high carbonation
O: 2.75 - as I was considering purchasing a single can in the greater Washington D.C. area, I read impressive reviews including a BA score of 90, so I had some moderate-to-high expectations going into drinking, and, unfortunately, this beer really disappointed me; overall, it's an amateurish offering and, to be honest, I have had many homebrewed imperial IPAs that just blow this totally out of the water; it's a British-style IPA-cum-ESB that advertises itself as a hoppy American imperial IPA; I'm hoping that I just purchased an aged bottle , but I won't be purchasing this one again

Can to HFS Sniffer
A: brown to amber in color but leaning toward honey color. Thick 2cm tan head that takes its time going away and pretty much completely opaque
S: the nose is pretty much all malt it has a sweet smell to it though no real hops or other pungent scents to smell so that was kind of disappointing.
T: The taste is definitely malt dominant but on the other hand it is balanced out with hops pretty well as I can distinguish the fresh hop taste. The malt follows the nose in terms of sweetness and it balances out the bitterness of the hops. It is not necessarily an ordinary combination or my favorite but it definitely works.
M: Very thin almost watery but that makes it very drinkable as it also quite oily and has a bit of hop bite to it, decent but nothing special
O:This is an interesting combo as it is quite a malty beer so I see why they call it an ESB but it does have the hoppy characteristics of an IPA without being totally malt dominant so I was really impressed that they made it work but its just not really my style and did not blow me away worth a try for sure especially if malt is your thing.

pint can into Flying Dog chalice. drink by 04/05/13.
A: very hazy looking brew. a murky light brown color. head is slightly off-white and is big. retention and lacing are very good.
S: orange peel as well as orange rinds. hop aroma is pungent and floral.
T: flavor starts sweet and fruity. there is a meaty backbone of grain that provides almost wood-like notes at times. finish is bitter which dries the beer out a bit.
M: carbonation is a bit too low for me. would like some more bubbles. medium body.
D: this beer should definitely be labeled as an ESB on this website, not a DIPA. nice twist on a traditional English styled beer. pass in my book.

A - Cloudy copper color with a very large, foamy, ballooning, thick, off-white head. Great retention that finally settles into a thin lacing.
S - Strong pine and orange hop aroma along with about an equally strong caramel and toffee aroma. A lemony, herbal tea aroma in the background. The hops hit your nose first but there is a definite underlying sweetness. An English DIPA aroma.
T - Starts with that sweet caramel and toffee flavor that persists throughout the sip. Strong bitter hops come into play mid-sip with a resinous pine flavor taking the lead. Orange and zest flavors also pretty strong. That gives way to a slight lemon flavor on the finish. The herbal tea flavors are always in the back making there presence known but never grabbing the spotlight. Finishes fairly bitter.
M - Medium to light body. Average carbonation with a fairly sticky feel.
D - Really easy to drink. I keep coming back for another sip. Interesting mix of flavors that just seems to work.
Notes: Interesting somewhat English DIPA. I wasn't sure about the nose or the taste when I was trying to assess it, but I kept coming back for more and enjoying it. A beer that you can't really over think or analyze. Just enjoy drinking it because in the end, the flavors just work.

Appearance: Translucent copper hue with very light effervescence and a big frothy three finger off-white head.
Aroma: Lots of pine and some earthy hop notes. Caramel malt and just a good barley presence. The aroma seems slightly subdued but is very clean nonetheless. Reminiscent of DFH 90 Min.
Taste: The bitterness shows up immediately and carries through from beginning to end. The hops flavor here is just like in the nose, earthy with very nice pine accents. Like sucking on a pine cone or the smell of an evergreen tree. Its quite robust, especially for 7.2% ABV, and delivers a nice malty flavor to balance the hops and the 93 IBUs. Caramel malt and that hearty barley flavor. Good balance of flavors.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied and a tad syrupy. Average drinkability. Smooth.
Final Thoughts: Really enjoying this one. For a fully robust Imperial beer, it has a relatively low ABV which makes it easier to have in larger doses (it comes in a 16 oz can). Would I drink it again? Yes, it might even make a good substitute for DFH 90 since I can't get that here.

Thanks to my buddy NJG for picking up this brew for me during his travels.
Light tarnish to this copper colored brew. Good two finger head after the pour and some foam-age and lacing for all sixteen ounces. There's a few small bubbles rising from the sides of the glass.
Citrusy nose from the start, fresh orange peel and some toasted citric rinds as well. There's a good toasted, bready malt backbone behind this beers aroma as well.
Citrus bitterness upfront. Moist orange peel hop resiny palate. The middle and finish is chewy and a little more malty. Faint musty breads and biscuits. Bitter from start to finish that's for sure. Some West coast style bitterness from the heart of America, maybe? Definetly worth checking out if you can get your hands on it.

Yay, tall boy cans, thanks to bunkrock (Reddit).
As much as I love cans, they are a bitch to pour, and it rises up a huge frothy and creamy 4 finger head that fades fairly slowly with lots of lacing, over fairly hazy auburn amber reddish orange color.
Nose has some big-ol hops. Big earthy hops mostly, with a light candied orange peel and candy like hops aroma, a little floral and fruity, and smells like lots of bittering hops. Malts are a plenty as well, with a big malty sweetness in the aroma alone, with a hint of toasty reddish caramel malts, and touch of toffee.
Taste starts slightly creamy, a little creamy malt base, and quickly comes the sweetness with a big malty flavor, caramel and toffee, a little candy, and chewy. Hops are there as well, fairly bitter, with some light spicy and plenty earthy, little grassy hop character that hits a plateau early but remains fairly bitter throughout. Just a bit of candied orange peel hop character, it really seems creamy and chewy like they put oats in it. Finish is still fairly sweet, more candy and caramel toffee flavors, more bitterness that ramps a bit on the finish and sticks around forever it seems, and a bit more earthy light citrus bitterness.
Mouth is med to a bit fuller bodied, creamy and chewy, decent carb.
Overall pretty good, lots of hops, lots of malts, both go together well, nothing out of place, tasty, nice long bitter finish that doesn't disappoint, but with all that doesn't really go above and beyond.

Poured from a "tall-boy" can into a standard pint glass.
Deep copper/amber in color, with a big, fluffy head of off-white foam.
Aroma-Sweet toasted malt, faint hop note
Taste-Almost a malt-bomb. Sweet toasted malt in wave after wave. Not much hop appearance here. Overly sweet for a double IPA. Perhaps not the right style category for this beer.

A: The beer is hazy amber orange in color and has a light to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high dense beige head that gradually died down and left a coating of bubbles down the sides of the glass.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of pine resin hops along with some notes of citrus hops.
T: Like the smell, flavors of pine resin hops stand out in the overall taste, which has a moderate amount of bitterness with notes of citrus hops. Hints of caramel malts are also present and become stronger as the beer warms up.
M: It feels medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer seems to be a little maltier compared to other IPAs and hides its alcohol very well.

Poured into a balloon glass.
The beer is a dark caramel copper color. A thick, foamy cream colored head recedes to a light film with spotty, sticky lacing on the glass.
The beer smells malty and sweet up front, with floral, grapefruit hops in the end.
The beer tastes Slightly malty and sweet to begin. Then an almost uncanny salty note comes in, like pretzels. This gives way to the hoppy, bitter grapefruit finish. It's got balance.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a dry finish.
Overall, an interesting journey from malts to hops. It's decent, but this will be a one-off.

Looks nice. Nose is pretty good. Flavor is workin' too. Nice little smack to the mouth. This double ipa carries a more mature tone to it in that there is a level of balance and seems to carry a malty backbone that works very well with the hops. It's not trying to obliterate your palate with hop ridiculousness. This is the third in my recent exposure to Tallgrass, and I must say I wholeheartedly approve. I'll try anything from this brewery at this point.
