A: Deep brown with chestnut edges and a ring of beige head.

S: Nutty sweet oak, dark fruity port wine, booze, definitely barrel-dominant on the nose. Smells good.

T: The barrel really tastes awesome... deeply fruity like port, for me its a bit thin and lacking some malt character. Chocolate-covered-raisin character, sweet, barrel-forward. I'd suggest drinking this ASAP as the base beer seems uninteresting to me.

375ml cored and caged bottle poured into tulip 7/3/13 4592/9987

A dark brown with enough clarity to see streams of bubbles going up the side and you can see about half way through the glass under the foam, two fingers of loose tan head leaves some random lace

S lots of bready caramel, burnt brown sugar, and over-ripe fruit, a little musty and earthy, quite sweet and I'm not getting a whole lot from the barrel but a little vanilla and Port, smells nice with just a hint of spice

T maybe some nutty coco and some wood I didn't catch on the nose, not too far from the smell with just a little booze but for 11.5% its well hidden. What I smells still there but its not as sweet as it smells but that still leaves a fairly sweet brew

M medium bodied with mellow carbonation, slight tannins and has a very mild numbing affect that somehow works, sweet earthy finish

O quite an interesting brew and rather well made, interesting barrel choice makes for a unique beer that's worth looking for

pretty solid brew and I can't quite think of something similar and I always like that. I wont lie its quite overpriced but I'm not upset I bought one

375ml caged and corked bottle (no. 4589 of 9987, apparently) - the cork being of a weirdly appropriate black composite rubber make. Not quite clear quite yet on the Continental leanings of the naming of this series, for which they have an already out-of-date web site, separate from the main one.

This beer pours a hazy, very dark ruddy chestnut brown colour, with three fingers of puffy, densely foamy, and somewhat creamy pale beige head, which leaves some broad swaths of billowing cloud lace around the glass as it slowly ebbs out of sight.

It smells of bready caramel malt, sharply musty, fleshy dark orchard fruit, a pithy, oily nuttiness, well aged, fairly oxidized red wine, and earthy, wet leafy hops. The taste is lightly roasted caramel/toffee malt, muddled nut butter, plum pudding, surprisingly understated sweet Manischewitz red wine, earthy, somewhat weedy hops, and a touch of winsome warming alcohol.

The carbonation is rather on the reserved side, with no outwardly effervescent projections, the body a sturdy medium weight, a tad creamy, and smooth, but with a very slight boozy edge. It finishes off-dry, the malt, nuts, fruit, and crazily-sublimated alcohol keeping things tight, and all in the family.

Wow - I think that this one's reputation preceded it just a little bit, at least for this camper - though once I settled in, the semblance to a big brown ale became readily evident, until the red wine notes came a-bounding in, that is. I'm getting some heavy Belgian strong ale associations here, minus the requisite yeast, yes. Anyways, a clever experiment, and woe that it is only that. Wait, scratch that - for 18 bucks a pop, this is but a cool, hipster-friendly, one and done indulgence, nothing more. Sigh - pick a vector, boyos...

Bottle 7168/9987. Purchased at Willow Park Wines in Calgary for 17.99/375ml. They only got a case so they hadnt even put it out yet and they had sold it all.

Smell is very fruity with coffee and caramel notes. Some of the Spanish wine comes through as well
Very dark brown look to it, almost black its so brown. Very little carbonation, half finger of head which is to be expected at this ABV and style
Tastes very fruity, brown ale flavour comes through but is cut with wine. You almost feel like it is a quad with its fruity, caramel, dark toasted notes. Incredibly tasty.

Despite the price would absolutely drink this again. I am hoping I can find another bottle in the city to age. As usual BrewDog kills it in the experimental/ridiculous brews department

375 ml corked and caged bottle.
BrewDog say it's an "IMPERIAL BROWN ALE AGED IN SPANISH RED WINE BARRELS".

Color is dark brown. Forms a small head that disappears completely.
Smell is quite nice: sweet, roasted malt, caramel and also some fruits.
Taste hits you sweet right away. Resembles a 20 year old wine I had once. Complex, sweet and fruity. Alcohol is present but not overwhelming.
Body feels medium and crisp. Carbonation is low but present.

Not bad at all but I'm not that much into sweet beers.
