Clear dark brown colour with a small light tan head. Fair head retention.

Big rum and oak aroma. Touches of chocolate. It is what it says it is.

Nutty, chocolatey, caramelised malt. Oak which slightly dries the palate. Touches of rum. Very nice. Easy to drink.

Medium to medium-full body with moderate carbonation. Good.

A solid beer. Fruity, chocolatey, nutty, caramelised, barrelled, lovely.

A: Color is deep brown with some hues of red. A rather small pale brown head sinks quickly into almost no lacings.

S: Hard roasted sweet malts, rich dark dried fruits and molasses. Vanilla and spices. Chocolate.

T: Again a very sweet experience. Dark dried fruits together with the hard roast is what this beer is all about. Molasses/rum. Some faint chocolate and coffee. Vanilla.

M: Aftertaste is short and sweet, while carbonation is low. The body is smooth and full.

O: Nice Porter with a obvious Rum-vibe.

I'm usually a little unenthused about BrewDog's beers, but I'm usually over the moon to try a new Lost Abbey beer. This is a conflicting experience.

Pours a deep reddish black colour, still somewhat translucent, with a fine film of ochre brown one the top. Some speckled lace and a very solid and firm body. Lots of fine carbonation when tilted. I like that the colour is not intensely black. It keeps it in Porter territory. It's a good looking beer.

Nose is big, friendly, comforting and boozy, with deep barrel notes giving vanilla and caramelised sugar. There's not a lot of roast to it, or indeed much that is sharp to keep the sweetness at bay—the closest that comes to it is a sherry or port like booziness that just suggest a little acidity. But it's impressive nonetheless. Like a big barrel-aged American Strong ale.

Taste is smooth and light, with a very woody port cask flavour on the back palate, the melds into a faint reverberation of salty roastedness. Indeed, there's an umami character on the back palate, like beef stock or vegemite that's really odd, but not unpleasant. This cuts through the oaky sweetness that fills out the rest of the palate. As a result, it's not too heavy, not too cloying, and all the characters manage to stay complementary and in balance. That must be tough work.

Overall: impressive stuff. This is a really pleasant and interesting beer that manages to be both complex and balanced. These are pretty much my by-words when it comes to beer I like, so I'm unashamedly enamoured.

Thanks! This is the most excited I've ever been to try anything having to do with BrewDog. Snifter.

A: An aggressive pour yields two fingers of light brown bubbly froth that linger for a minute. Lacing is scattered. The body is dark brown with a crimson tinge when held to light. The color is very light for an Imperial Porter.

S: Lots of plum and grape, as well as some dark cherry, rum, and treacle. The barrel has really beaten the base beer into submission as there's no roast or any other traditional Imperial Porter notes. This has taken on a lot of port-like characteristics, with accompanying caramel, brown sugar, and chocolate (faint). Oxidation is light, imparting sherry notes that blend nicely with candied fruitcake.

T: Like the nose, the flavor is full of dark fruits such as plum, raisin, grape, and dark cherry. Again, very much like port wine with some faint rum notes. Fruitcake and sherry oxidation meet light tannins and a smooth alcohol profile. There's a little caramel and a whisper of chocolate. The candied finish reveals notes tending toward the skins of plums and grapes with evident alcohol.

M: Medium body with a mouthfeel that's a bit thin and somewhat watery. The beer has an upper low level of carbonation.

Overall: This doesn't remotely resemble an Imperial Porter, but it's got a really complex and rewarding aroma with a pretty nice flavor. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this but I was pleasantly surprised. This is a sipper and very sweet, but definitely worth trying if it crosses your path.

330 ML poured into a tulip

A-- Poured a dark, dirty brown color. Good amount of ruby showing through this. One finger light brown head that quickly faded to a collar. Not much retention to this. Some spotty lacing through drinking.

S-- Rum. Lots of it. Gritty chocolate, rum, spices, dark fruits and some oak. Decent nose but not too big.

T-- Dark spiced rum. Good amount of it. Still rather thin though. Cinnamon, dirty chocolate, dark fruits, and carmel. Seems like Captain Morgan really.

M-- Medium bodied and light carbonation. Sticky sweet and a lot of cane sugar. Alcohol drops off but leaves a lot of sweetness. base beer is not all there. Very thin but gritty and earthy body.

O-- An imperial porter, not an RIS. Not a big enough body and the box says Imperial Porter. Barrel adds a lot of sweetness to this and not much else. A dark rum and not a spiced rum would have been a better option. No need to age as this is ready to drink now.

Pours a deep dark cherry brown hue which leaves a one finger head that quickly dissapates to leave a rim of lacing and some smog in the middle,the smell is boozy alcohol,rum and lots of it,sweet port and some smoke,the mouthfeel is medium bodied and sweet just like a nice port and has tastes of oak,sticky sweet white port,a light touch of rum,some smokiness,brown sugar,candy and finished with a ripe plum bittersweetness and overall i feel the ageing in rum barrels definately makes its presence known in a good way and for someone like me who doesnt like rum thats a big call i feel it was the perfect amount of time in the ageing process to not overtake the brew and i would definately buy again but best drank fresh i think as would only sour more with age cheers.

Deep dark black pour. Listed here as a Russian Imperial Stout, listed on the bottle as an Imperial Porter. Probably somewhere in between both those labels as it's a heavy beer with strong rum and oaked alcohol aromas permeating from the glass. Has a nice small tan head with average lacing throughout.

Very sweet as notes of dark fruit, raisins, and of course more rum come out as it warms. Further down the glass, hints of vanilla and licorice slightly linger on the palate.

A great beer and one that I'm happy to have had and to be able to age for years to come.

A clear deep red-brown-black beer, a tan firm head with little lacing but good curtains.

An intensely black smell, Chinese soy sauce, rum infused raisins, dark chocolate liqueur.

Very sweet, brown sugar, dark dried fruits, dates, old banana, raisins, brown cask aged rum.

Little carbonation, smooth and oily, a huge body, a small smooth dry finish.

Very nice, works probably well with ripe cheese, vanilla ice cream. Or as dessert by itself. Would be interesting to store for a few years.
