12 oz. bottle, with a bottled on date of 11/12/2010. A long since retired collaboration beer between BrewDog and Stone, my third review of a collaboration beer on BeerAdvocate. Glad to have landed this bottle, even if I am late to the party, my local beer store had about three of these left.
Poured into a St. Bernardus Watou chalice.
A - Pours a dark cola brown / almost black colored body with the tiniest centimeter of off-white head which fizzled out of existence immediately. Some cola brown bubble appearance chillin on top.
S - Smell is of dark fermented fruits like figs and dates. Some lighter fruit / bubblegum malts, and some funky Belgian yeast smell are noticeable also. Faint muted hop presence. Some alcohol fumes. Smells almost more like an imperial stout than it does a black Belgian DIPA.
T - Taste is surprisingly tame compared to what I was expecting, based on the nose. Light, faded hop character has turned sugary and sweet, unlike the spicy bitter hop bomb this may have been two years ago. Some dark fermented plum & fig notes. Some coffee bean & chocolate bitterness, even. Slight alcohol warmth, but not much considering this beer's intense 8.60% abv.
M - Feel is bitter & dry. Some coffee bean presence, and faded hops that gives way to a sweet green apple skin finish.
Overall, this is a tasty beer, even if I didn't manage to catch it at it's prime. I'm enjoying what this beer has become; more tame and mellow than it may have been when it was fresh. Definitely glad I got the chance to try this beer, although it is not something I would pay for another 12 oz. bottle, especially at this beer's price range.

Stone/BrewDog collaboration black IPA. I've been holding on to a bottle of this for a while now and decided to break it out.
Appearance is quite black, with a decent amount of dark tan head still after aging. The smell is nicely hoppy. Piney with some dark malt too. Now the taste is where I usually am not a big fan of black IPA's, but bashah has won me over. The dark malt is integrated with the bold hop flavor without the astringency or sourness that I often note in black IPA's. Bold, but very drinkable. The mouthfeel is smooth, dry at the finish and with nice body.
Overall, this has been the best black IPA I have tried and a very solid brew.
