Style | ABV
American Double / Imperial Stout |  18.20% ABV

Availability: Rotating. bottle (200), on-tap (29)

Notes:
This imperial stout is brewed with copious amounts of speciality malts, jasmine and cranberries. After fermentation we then dry-hop this killer stout with a bucketload of our favourite hops before carefully ageing the beer on French toasted oak chips.

I wanted to like this beer. I really did. For a variety of reasons.

The pour is almost more of a deep deep brown with a little bit of lazy carbonation remaining over the top.

Nose is sweet. Almost like a grappa sweet. Big alcohol presence, along with a dark fruit sweetness to it.

This does not taste like beer, as most people would expect it, but almost like a decent port. That would actually be the how I would describe this beer overall. A beer for port lovers. I think it's the cranberries and jasmine that really give it this deep syrupy sweetness, and it's got a high ABV.
This more I think about this, the more that is how I approach it. Don't drink this beer thinking you're drinking beer. Think of it as a malted port. With that change in thinking I like it that much more

This really isn't my usual type of beer. BUT here goes. Pours dark and has a slight purplish tint.

Thin head with a tan tint that sticks around after a few sips.

After the first sip, I was tempted to pour it. It was sour and confusing. Honestly, it reminds me of a thinner blackberry brandy. It packs a wallop that I haven't had before though and it brings me to a limit I haven't reached nor had.

If I ever happen to come across it again in my travels, I will more than likely pick it up.

Bottle shared at GRG1313’s tasting.

Best before 12/14/19.

Pours a clear super dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, maple, and spice aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and maple flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with some solid aromas and tasty flavors.
