Tap @ Hamilton's. Poured black, could be very dark brown, with a short, creamy off-white head. Good retention with small amount of lacing. Smoky, burnt coffee aroma with caramel, cereal grain, and tobacco. Flattish mouthfeel that varied between slick and lifeless. Very nice smoke and roast malt flavors. Earthy cocoa, like carab, and cream. Nice bitter hops from time to time. Admittedly, I have not had as many schwarzbiers as others, but I did enjoy this beer.

Deep black color. Poured just one finger head with short retention.
Sweet malty smell with hints of dark chocolate and coffee.
Flavor is similar to aroma, but revealing more complexity. A sweet taste with smoky and toasted malts with hints of dark chocolate along with a spicy hoppy kick.
Aftertaste is dry and bitter leaving coffee notes.
Medium to full body with light carbonation with small bubbles.

This is one of my all time favorite beers. I first tried it two years ago when I was beginning to become a beer connoisseur. Just absolute magic. The flavor is complex and the color is beautiful. Zeitgeist translates to "The defining spirit or mood of a particular period of history as shown by the ideas and beliefs of the time." This beer is my defining spirit!

330 mL bottle tried 18 Oct 2010. Courtesy of L&D, thanks! Served in, damn, garbled pic in notes. One of the dimpled German mugs. 0.4 L most likely.
Large bubbly light brown head. Moderate carbonation. Very dark brown, almost opaque. Roasty fruity sour aroma with a touch of smoke. Lots of roasty dark chocolate to start. Mocha, espresso. Medium body, mild ethanol. Roasty bitter finish. Aftertaste is some lingering cocoa.
As has been mentioned before, decent but pricey on this side of the Atlantic.

33cl bottle served into a Westvleteren goblet. Reviewed from notes.
A: Pours a two finger head of lovely soft cream lacing, great thickness, and good retention. Colour is a solid nontransparent black.
Sm: Fresh. Bittering hops, cream, and crystal malt. A mild strength aroma.
T: Creamy open and finish, but with an undertone throughout. Lovely mixed fruit esters: strawberry and raspberry. Foundation features touches of caramelized malt. Some nice light barley notes accompany. Well balanced and built.
Mf: Wonderfully creamy, smooth, and wet, and of just the right thickness. Not overbearing by any means. Supports the flavour of the body. Masterfully delicate.
Dr: Average ABV, wonderful quality, an extraordinary mouthfeel, and an obscenely high price (per Brewdog tradition). Worth trying once, but not as special as Brewdog's gimmicky marketing would like to have you believe.
