Darkest brown pour with a very thin, foamy tan head. Heavy cocoa, dark chocolate, caramel, fudge and coffee invade the nose. Lots of alcohol is apparent as this is a big beer. Shares a lot of similarities with Dogfish Head's WWS. This one is a tad more drinkable; starts out stout like with bittersweet chocolate and caramel giving way to a finish that has coffee-like bitterness and big alcohol burn. Not unpleasant but memorable. This is a big stout. Freakishly big and worth the try for any big brew lover.

Poured into a sma snifter. A dark brown to black color with a creamy head. Some lacing present and surprising on this strength. 2010 brew has a black licorice and slightly boozy aroma. Taste is like a nice port with the licorice flavored dominating from middle to back. Solid brew.

Black as night, the head is gone, maybe the age has to do with it, but it's improved the rest. The overpowering thick dark malts are all there on the nose: Worchester bitterness, sugar plum faries, with a stunning blast of jasmine flower to envelope, invite and excite. This is a beer so heavy I can't swirl it in my Duval tulip. Even as it warms. Brown Sugar to poppy jasmine flowers. Figgy pudding with enough burbon to get you through an old school family xmas eve. This is a knockout punch from brewdog. More PleasE!!!
4 pts most I ever improved a beer! Let this one keep in the cellar for awhile I'm sure it was hot new but it's awesome with a few years...

This is a decent stout. Been aged for some time now. Smooth and even, but no real definitive characteristics. The flavor profile could stick around a bit longer as it seems to drop off quite a bit very quickly. Overall, decent. Probably has improved with some age.

Appearance: Pours viscous out of the bottle with a little bit of head. Pitch black, no light goes through this one.
Smell: Chocolate, cinnamon, black tea, maple syrup, burnt oak, tobacco and considering the alcoholic strength a very slight smell of it. Wow!
Taste: Chocolate, cranberries, raisins. There is no lack of either complexity nor purity. Wow again!
Mouthfeel: Thick, candylike. A little too warming, alcoholic and dessert wine/Porter like for me, but guess you can't have everything.
One of the best beers(???) I have tasted in a long time. And this at 18.2%, I am impressed. Having an endless supply of these would be a non stop recipe for becoming an alcoholic. Good thing it is so expensive actually. Best shared with a friend, split a bottle into two wine glasses.

Bottle: Poured a thick-black color stout with a medium size dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of dark roasted coffee with some vinous notes and light liquorice notes. Taste is also a mix between some dark roasted coffee notes with some light vanilla and liquorice. This beer is sweet do not overwhelmingly so. Body is full with oily texture and good carbonation with surprisingly no alcohol notes. Well brewed and more enjoyable then I was expecting.

Reviewed from notes, found it at Naja's Place. $10 for 10 oz.
A - Opaque dark black body with no head. Very still, like a liquor.
S - Chocolaty sweetness, malty, full.
T - Very flavorful, I didn't find it overly hot/alcoholy for the strength it has. Decent sweet smooth balance.
M - Oily thick, velvety, pretty good.
O - Glad I got it, would probably sample again.

Had on draft at the pub in Edinburgh. I was really looking forward to this beer and it lived up. The smell is amazing. The beer drinks more like a liquor and is a sipping beer. When of the better imperials I have had in a while. I was impressed that it was not served too carbonated as I expected. This added to the mouthfeel.
